It's a gimmick. Back in the early 90's they killed him and sold millions of copies. Of course he came back. They can't kill him again, meaningfully. So this is some other shock value sell, where surely he will say he made a mistake later.

He was an illegal alien anyway.  I don't recall an issue where he applied for US citizenship. 

Honestly, I think they are doing it to send a political message and I believe its a good one.
