Gotta love it when someone who can barely use a PC, switches to mac because of virus.  Happens all the time.
Not implying you here.
Macs are overpriced.  Unless you're using platform specific software, there is no point in switching.  Every time I pass that Apple store, I want to slap an "Apple Genius". ::)
Apple is great at marketing, styling, and their interface is good, but when it comes to computers...just more costly for less performance.

yup, if you like to consume content then ipad, iphone is good for on the move but the PC will always be the king of content creation\Games\Hardware\price\FAR more software rather than some overpriced shitty imac.

I recently bought a 13 in mac pro, sandy bridge I5 yadda yadda.

Prior I had a Samsung Q430 (I think those are the numbers, 14 inch with I5 etc etc)

I have to admit- you get what you pay for. This thing is a pure joy to use.

The trackpad is AMAZING- the keyboard AMAZING- even the backlighting on the keyboard is perfect.

The battery charger is fucking magnetic.

Lightning fast at everything I do.

Screen does not wash out at angles.

Despite the shell being a heat sink it stays cool MOST of the time.

Whisper quiet.

Programs load and unload instantly- no more waiting for windows to uninstall shit- it just happens, instantly.

I owned a crappy Toshiba and then the Samsung, which was very nice, but this is on another level. It makes me not want to even shop around for laptops, which I always used to do. It is a fantastic machine.

And I got $100 off being a student. $1200 out the door, pricey but well worth it IMO.

And FWIW the battery life is closer to 5 hours with "normal" use. I CAN get 9 but with the screen so damn dark I can barely see it. So, when the situation calls for it, exceptional battery life CAN be had, but around 5-6 hours on the normal daily.

And did I mention how sexy the fucking thing is? Just a joy to be on. I find myself always doing SOMETHING on it because it's just awesome.

And if the AIR had a backlit keyboard I would have bought it, shitty processor and all.

You should see if you can swing a BMW.  If you're smaller/average sized, get a 335i.  If tall/bigger than average, get a 550i.

I need it for school web browsing the usual.

Honestly I do think it's pricey, but I am VERY happy with it, and I have used a ton of laptops and shopped for weeks before I bought it.

The best way to put it is that this is the complete package.

What I wanted-

I7 sandy bridge
7200 RPM harddrive
8gigs of RAM
500 GIG hard drive, at least
Hi def screen
Great battery life
Thin and lightweight
Blu-Ray player
Nice shell, appealing and trendy- not cheap and plastic like.

The bottom line- I could NEVER get the perfect package. The Toshiba Portege 830 and also the Lenovo Y460p both came very close, but neither had a backlit keyboard (something I insisted on) and the lenovo seemed and felt very cheap. It had a shitty battery while the toshiba- what can I say, it came very close.

Like I said though, I am pretty educated when it comes to computers, and I did my research, and while I dislike shelling out $1200 for the MAC you definitely DO get what you pay for.

On this keyboard I can easily hammer out around 105 110 WPM at 95% or better accuracy and the backlit keyboard is amazing and a joy to have.

Na. My friend gifted a 1991 Sunbird to me and I plan on sticking with that. I also have a mountain bike, and a VTA month pass is only $70, so I usually ride my mountain bike and take light rail/bus.

I am pretty big on public transportation, I really wish America would step it up like Germany and make mass transit better. But, it works, and I stick with it.

Germany makes BMWs.  Driving one makes you feel better about life in general.  Feeling better about life --> makes you more productive.

 ???

Dell Studio 17" Adware Google Chrome Win 7 I5 and I haven't had a virus in 1.5 yrs.

Dell Insp 15" XP since 2006 - I think I've had to clean it out twice over the yrs but back up everything on flash

Blackberry 8830 2yrs but will upgrade to 4G Droid.  Fuck IPhn

Sandisk for 39$ to listen to a couple of songs while working out.  WTF I need video or 300 device for that

Kindle 139$ vs IPad which is just an incomplete lap top.

WTF you looking for online to keep getting viruses?

I think both my systems were cheaper together than one 13" MAC.

Poor  ???  WTF?  Saving and getting good mileage of laptops and other products vs just paying name brand

Maybe, but the other 20% of the stuff in the data center probably runs a shell of some sort, which Microsoft refuses to acknowledge... You know... BASH, KSH, CSH, whatever...

Something Apple has built in for me to manage the rest of the non-windows servers... You know... the stuff that does real work in the datacenter besides being email.

I agree. Linux is almost the backbone of most infrastructure that I've come across......Microsoft have their specialties and I have to admit that their latest Server 08 is a masterpiece......apple will is enjoying whatever they're doing these days, but Microsoft knows that the bulk of their business and existence rely on the Corporate environment

I take no issue with Microsoft... some things are just easy to use. Exchange is easy... IIS is easy... Microsoft did a good job with 2K8... absolutely.

In today's datacenter they are virtual machines though and that VMware or Xen cluster is open source and has a shell... The file servers are all on Netapps or some other NAS now and the workhorse database servers are running linux.

Ever since Oracle bought Sun, the proprietary Unix is gone... Linux is where it's at.

Apple fan boys lovvvve their shit.

Sold a cinema display, 17" MacBook pro & $2500 worth of software To a banker last week.

Fucker could have gotten by with a decent $600 laptop but Apple makes his dick hard.

I think the more relevant question is how many MAC users have actually opened terminal and were able to
work in the command line, or how many MAC users even know what root is :)

that being said,  I love my macbook pro and ipad's, then again I barely ever do anything out of the shell

No question, I used to be hardcore PC, but windows has just become a pain in the ass, malware and other crap have driven me to other operating systems, Ive always been a unix/linux , so since OS X is built on BSD it's a perfect match for me, I dual boot most of my PC's with BSD now anyway so it all works out great.

People who complain about virus on pc's are retarded. I have NEVER dealt with a single virus because there are legit programs that deal with that issue. Apple products are stupid expensive and arent any better then a powerful pc along the same price line for what the average person uses a computer for.

People still believe that paying more equates to automatically being better which in the case of pc vs Mac is laughable.

By the way Apple applications suck ass, the hand held devices (Touch, etc) don't even have flash player for fuck sake, can't view half the videos available at certain times. Don't get sucked into Apples slick but bogus marketing.

1400$ for a 13" Mac Pro/2500$ for a 17" .  I can get 3 Dells for that price.  And what the fuck is with the virus stuff?  Nothing on my 17" since purchased 1.5 yrs ago.  Adware live and Win 7 do the trick.  And no problems connecting and working on my Linux server remotely.

Apple is good for Physics Lab though.

Day - day computing can be done a fucking 400$ Walmart emachine.

What makes Mac so special outside of protecting you from illegal download sites and bad porn sites?

Exactly. The average user doesn't do dick on a computer except play games and surf the net and what dummy would dish out the kind of money Apple asks for it's products for those simple requirements?
