Hogan at 23?
I suspect his placing might be a "bit" higher if he were not in rival TNA at the moment.
;)
-
Hogan is a top 5 in ANYONES list, he had it all. A definite slap in the face

OTOH, I'm sure Bret is very happy with the placings.
;D

Agreed... How he is not a top 5 is ridiculous.
-
Hogan is unquestionably #1. The man IS wrestling.
-
My top 15 would be
Hogan
Austin
Sammartino
HBK
Taker
Rock
Andre

Take Cena and HHH off that list, and you got yourself a good list my friend. Could of put Savage up a little higher though.

Did any of the current roster even watch wrestling before they got into it?
How the piss does Austin end up beneath Michaels!?!?

You're right about Cena. He's too high...I'd leave HHH in.
-
HBK is about a million times the worker of anyone else on the list.

Mark alert!!! :D

We've already had that discussion this year.

Guilty. I mark out on HBK.
I just think he is a worker. Look at the best matches that Bret Hart or Undertaker or at least 10 guys on that list had and I bet The Showstopper was involved.

The Hulkster would disagree. :(

I love Hogan. I just think that HBK was better.

I have heard numerous interviews where top guys in the biz said Mr. Perfect was the best guy they ever wrestled.
We may never see another Curt Hennig.
-
This is true, the man was truly a marvel that in his prime would have entertained and headlined in any generation. The rarest of talents.

I’ve always believed that Curt was the most well-rounded performer in pro-wrestling.
He maybe wasn’t the best in every category, or even some categories, but he had the most of all the categories combined:
Technical skills
Mic skills
Look
Story telling ability
Character psychology and charisma
Many/most guys excel at one or several, but severely lack the others.
IMO, Curt had the greatest total.

His drawing power and the fact that he PUT wrestling on the map should automatically propel him to #1.

I reckon it's an impossible list to make? Would you have Kurt Angle at 34?
Angle should be in the top 10 easily.
-
Angle provided credibility to a "fake" sport.
He should be higher on the list, IMO.
-
Of course the list is retarded... Where is Nikita Koloff... Magnum TA... Sting?!
Basically, if you never worked for Vince, you didn't get on the list.
Randy Orton over Jake Roberts or Kurt Angle?
Come on.

What a WASTE!!

Angle should easily be top 10
Rey Mysterio in at 9? REALLY?
-
The problem with this thread is that it all really depends on who should be #1.
Based on wrestling abilty - Kurt Angle
Based on the total package (wrestling ability, timing, promo cutting, the look in terms of body, crowd reaction) - Triple H.
Based on selling / drawing, charisma, popping the crowd - Hulk Hogan.
Based on innovation and the guarantee of a good exciting match - Shawn Michaels
There are so many others. Henning, Hart, etc. Back in the sixties and seventies it was bruno and Superstar Billy Graham.

I wouldn't say Angle had the best wrestling ability. There were others before him that paved with way like Hart, Steiner, Benoit. They all kicked ass on the mat technically.

Kurt Angle is highly respected both by older retired wrestlers and current talents soley based on his ability. He is that good.
-
Kurt is a big hit with EVERYONE at the Cauliflower Alley banquets.
It seems like everybody respects him.
He impressed me by making a smooth and extremely effective transition from the world of competitive grappling to make-believe fighting.
A lot of legitimate fighters/athletes have had trouble with that over the years.
They either have a difficult time grasping the concept of the entertainment end, or - like Brock - their hearts just are not into it.
Guys like Shamrock were good, but IMO, Angle was better overall.
I think he was a more complete package.
Angle also came in at a time in which management was pushing the amateur style to lend a bit more realism to the product.
Kurt ranked up there with guys like Benoit, Severn, Bret, etc., who were receiving bigger pushes mainly due to their abilities.
Guys like Hunter praised Angle for his discipline and devotion, and credited him as being a fast learner.
-
Hogan is the greatest pro wrestler ever. Angle, Bret, Shawn etc.. are obviously better workers but pro wrestling is a lot more than that. Flair is probably the closest to having the total package. A great worker that also had that presence and charisma.
-
Ultimate Warrior >> Jeff Hardy so he should have been on this list!
-
Flair not on the list? ::)
-
He is tied with Dusty at 17... Still bullshit but he's on the list.
-
I don't know how they did this...is it just time with WWE/F? If so, Harley, Dusty, Funk etc..should be lower. They are all top 20 in any all time wrestling ranking, but didn't do too much in WWF. Stupid all around.
-
Flair not on the list? ::)
Yeah Flair, you know, the good ole boy ass kisser himself.
-
Fucked up list, no way HBK should be no.1 and Hogan 23, LOL WTF...
23 ?!?! the guy made the company in the 80's
-

Hogan made wrestling what it is today....period. Then Flair in second and everyone else third. Bottom line.
-
I'd have to put Shawn #1 as well. If Flair agreed to retire after losing to to him. Come on. How much respect is that? Shawn changed the game. Hogan is immortal. He's above the whole list. Untouchable. HBK was a Rocker. Didn't have it. The guy is a worker. He made us love him. Shawn brought it for like 20 years and became the best in the buisiness.
Hahaha, I think we all know Flair is never going to retire, just like Hogan he's gonna be coming back at 68 coming down the ramp on a wheelchair and getting into the ring with a walker.

All i can think of is Freddie Blassie lol

I myself am a mark for certain wrestlers from my childhood.
But, I’m also realistic, and freely admit their faults because you must not allow any mark-like devotion to blind yourself to the facts.
Below are some facts, figures, and extremely astute observations from one of wrestling’s biggest authorities regarding Shawn's big reign.
From Dave Melzer’s Wrestling Observer newsletter:
…Michaels did a superb job in 1996...however, let’s not rewrite history to say Shawn’s reign was Hogan-like from a business standpoint, because nothing could be further from the truth. TV ratings collapsed in June of 1996 on Shawn’s watch, not Bret’s, and reached company all time lows for the rest of the year. Not just Monday night ratings due to Nitro - ratings across the board. Syndication died. Shawn’s work in the ring can’t be denied…but the buy rates fell through his reign and it was during Shawn’s reign, for the first time in a decade that WWF in both PPV and TV ratings fell to no. 2 in the U.S....Let’s not forget that there were numerous cases of Michaels throwing unprofessional hissy fits throughout his title reign in the ring.
These are not the qualities of a #1 guy.
We can debate who was number one on many levels as far as guys like Flair, Hogan, Sammartino, etc., but while Shawn was an incredible worker, he doesn't have the total package to be ranked above the aforementioned men.
The difference is in the business they drew, and the business the promotion did on their watch.
Bottom line: WWF lost money while Shawn was in the driver's seat.

flair and hogan for #1
triple H should be top 5
HBK ::) surely not ahead of hogan and flair
Disco Inferno #1 actually
