All day long my friends and random facebook people whine and bitch about $4.00 a gallon gas yet they insist on always driving.
Today is a nice day out and my car will be sitting at home while I take the train downtown to study with my group.
Makes no sense to me to whine and bitch about something most people can easily do something to fix. Stop driving!
If you have a tremendous distance to cover or are out of time sure I can see driving. But ONLY when you need to.
If you can easily take the train or bus and choose not to for convenience reasons or just to show off your fucking rims then in my mind you have NO right to complain.
I pay $70 a month for a pass to ride all light rail and buses and they take me to and from school and almost anywhere else I need to go. My car is getting dusty.
It's time for Americans to put up or shut up!

America's public transportation sucks .
-
Chicago public transportation is good.
Most other places outside of a large city it's horrible.
At the same time it's not hard to afford a basic car that gets great gas mileage...so there's no need for a public transport system.
You can get a compact car for around $150 a month & insurance is cheap on them.

I agree.
These pussies need to ride a fucking bicycle.
Most peope nowadays are bitches though. Too concerned about looking cool and lazy as fuck.
They are fat, broke, and have a bicycle. But they still won't ride the fucking thing and kill two birds with one stone. Get in shape and save some money.

America's public transportation sucks .
It definitely does! And to be honest, I would drive if gas were say 2 bucks a gallon, but at 4$ no way! Save money AND stay in shape, sign me up!!!

Thing is I own a car and only drive when I really need to.
I feel the time is coming where fat lazy americans will finally be brought full circle. Food will be expensive, gas expensive, but public transport and mountain bikes will still be dirt cheap. Just imagine the benefits to our economy when health care costs plummet because fat asses are starving and getting exercise for a change! Now THAT is "change I can believe in"!

epic admitting hes to poor to tank the car. now go and pay your loans douchebag
-
Did you buy your T.V.? ???
-
Did you buy your T.V.? ???
Not yet. No rush, I really do not need it before football starts. Even then, I may watch for free at bars so who knows. As I already own a 36 inch sony I REALLY have a hard time stomaching the purchase.
You know I never posted here before I bought my laptop. Maybe my subconcious was steering the boat and I did not even realize it.
-
this thread is dumb. 99% of americans who drive to work would be fucked to walk, bike, or take the damn bus. unless you work at starbucks five blocks from your shitty studio apartment this doesn't matter.
but hey, just remember to inflate your tires and all will be right in the world! ;D

Definitely NOT true.
9/10 people I know (and I know fair amount of people) even freely admit to me that they COULD take mass transit but they choose not to.
Having a car gives one a sense of freedom that many are hesitant to give up.
We will see what 5$ a gallon gas does to folks walking the edge so to speak.
High gas prices may well be the best thing to ever happen to Americans.
What we save money and get healthy at the same time?? Perish the thought!!! I mean, we might even have reduced spending on health care! Could you imagine???

Dude it depends where you live.
Like I said, Chicago is one of the very FEW places where public transport is AWESOME. The el and bus systems can take you anywhere in the city and the maps are easy to naviage. There is even a phone number where you call and you tell them where you are and where you want to get to. They will tell you exactly what buses to take and what transfers to make.
Los Angeles public transit is SHITTY AS FUCK ...won't even comment on this.
Atlanta public transit is spotty at best. My gf's best friend works nights and gets off at 11pm. Waiting 25-40 minutes for a fucking bus to take you home when you are a white small female is pretty scary for a lot of women.
I think the $5 gas prices in about a month will get more people to use public transit, absolutely. I'd rather drive somewhere than take a shitty bus any time. Even rush hour.
I live in a suburb of Chicago. Public transit isn't even an option here unless you're taking the METRA into the city. But within this medium sized town, driving is only option.
ALso to the dumbfucks saying we should bike everywhere. Try riding your bike in the middle of winter in the snow belt of the country for a few days. See how long that lasts.
By the way, bike riders in Chicago are some of the biggest douches around.

We've been thru this before...
the type of people who take the bus on the regular are:
People who can't afford a car, lost their car, can't afford insurance, crazy people, thugs, very unhappy people. Basically, people that one doesn't have to deal with, if you had your own car.
Now, there are people who take commuter buses, like people in the DC area...because parking and drivng into DC suck ass. There is a difference
4 dollar gas actually forces people to think about how they are driving, and to stop going to places for the sake of driving...

This is true also.
$5 a gallon gas will stop some people from driving frivulosly. It will mean for others that they will spend less money else where like a restaurant, store...etc.

In the USA public trans does REALLY suck.
It's common for there to only be 1 bus per hour on most routes. Truely shitty. Takes like 2 hours just to go like 10 mies sometimes.
In the US you gotta take transportation into your own hands in most cities and towns. There are only a small huandful of cities with good public transportation.
I used to ride my bicycle every day 12 miles to work and 12 back. It's not really that difficult. It's gets you shredded and gives you epic quadz.
-
Anyone who bought a car bigger than 2.5liters after the prices in 2008 is an idiot. They were always going to go up again.
-
Mass transport sucks - though I use it on a daily basis when in Vienna. No "need" for a car if you have the bus and train in front of your house.
-
Depends where you live. NO mass public transportation where I live. When I lived in the nyc/nj area, that's all I normally took when I worked in NYC.
-
You are in college MethylMike, you know nothing about how the real world works. Graduate, get off the government tit, and you will have a different outlook. Right now, you are in your socialist vaccum. Graduate, start making $100k a year, and you won't be caught dead riding public transportation with the scum of the earth. You will loathe those people. Not all are bad, but I would say a majority are thugs etc.
-
I had to take Public transportation for about 5 weeks a few years.(an injury prevented me from driving).needles to say that i had to leave my house at 5.00 am, to get home close to 7...
Not an option for me.
-
Bus is for commies 8)

Public transport = for the poor
Public healthcare = for the poor
makes sense doesnt it
This is a good thread!! Nice job Mike. This statement above is not true at all. I've started walking a lot more, and taking some public easy. My wife also has been doing so. She takes the subway to the hospital everyday. When I look around at others walking or using transit it's definitely other like people. I have two cars and still prefer walking or transit now. I never ever thought I'd see the day that I would make that statement. I live in the core of a large city though so making these changes has been fairly easy.
My views on things like cars have changed so much over the past few years. I've spent so much money on car after car and it really isn't a smart move. I think when I was building my career, started making money, cared about image so much, it was important, now after being here for a bit I'm actually considering just buying a nice hybrid.
Walking and public transit is a definite win. We all should think this way

I like this new XFactor better than the old one (no homo)
-
we took the bus after my water broke, took all of 10 minutes verses the 20 buck cab ride and I wasn't paying to park my car because didn't know how long it would be.
-
There are people who say they can't lose weight, that it doesn't work for them.
Maybe their free energy exists and it could be transferred to vehicles.
-
Good thing brah, you should get all your rich buddies to join in and take the metro/bus/train, maybe the public transport systems will get some more funding
My friends wouldn't even think about it. They laugh at me and think I'm crazy. I'm trying though

8 min drive vs 60 min bus ride. No direct route, transfer to another bus, wait in between buses, and still walk for 1/2 mile. Never mind the scumbags that smell like piss riding the bus, or the assholes who disrupt the other passengers. Bus drivers are getting assualted more and more often as well. Fuck public transportation.
I bring 30-40 lbs worth of gear each day I hit the office, so a bike is out of the question as well. Safety on a bike is also a concern as well. It's illegal here to ride on the sidewalks, no bike paths either, and therefore one is stuck riding in traffic.
No thanks.
Instead of worrying about gas, we should put our energy towards seriously improving the efficiacy of our vehicles. No reason to not get hundreds of miles per gallon, aside from the greed of the oil companies that is. Instead of reacting to the high price of gas we should be addressing the root of the problem.

In so cal only the poor or the retarded use public transportation.
-
Public Transportation isn't necessarily cheap nowadays either

My first time on public transit in Baltimore happened when I was a freshman in college. It was at night, it was me and my friend, and three thugs about 8 seats up...one was talking about how he shot a guy and his kid...nuff said...
I still rode the bus, but I am a walker by nature, many times the women I'm with hate where I park, because I like to walk. I walk to the store, walk down to a restaurant, bar, Chinese place, etc---where I live they are all walkig distances. My granfolks have a farm, so I'm used to walking all over the place...My friend in college is from NJ and is used to walking in NYC, so a group of us would always walk somewhere, if convienent.

You were in College Park, Maryland, right?
you should try walking through College Park, Georgia. :o :o

No, Morgan St...College Park, Md is in PG County, Md...right outside of DC...
I was in Bodymore...my room mate's cousin (both from St. Thomas) rode that same bus and was robbed of his clothes, took everything including his Tims---left him in his underwear...
During my freshman yr, same bus, diff stop, a dude was shot and killed right at the bus stop--I was in the library, and I heard two "pop-pops", dude was killed over $4. There are a lot of stick up kids that prey on college kids...they know the stops...Plus, the City buses just don't pick up reg folks, but also the high school kids...
College Park, MD on route 1 can be crazy.

DAMN. I have not heard that since i was in Middle skool. 8)
I thought about that while at South Florida. USF had "Thugs" like that who knew every route and would basically see the "people" that had nice shoes, clothes, laptop's,..etc People would get robbed at night, wasn't shit they could do. I thought Maryland was kinda like AA.

I have been working full time since I was 15. I know more than you might think about how the real world works...

I have a car.
I can easily afford gas.
I still pay $70 a month for my vta month pass, and only drive when I have to.
I am not crazy.
