Title: Presidential incumbency power
Post by: 240 is Back on May 02, 2011, 01:15:23 AM
What have we seen in the last week from Obama, evidencing his power to sway events in America, and the timing of their delivery?

A week ago, he probably received pics of OBL's dead body.  He then had the ability to control the release of this information.  It sure as hell doesn't take the president ONE WEEK to obtain DNA confirmation, I think we all know that.

Instead, he chose to sit on the info.  While Trump screamed about birth certs and Obama talked about it, he grinned knowing that in a week we'd be praising him for his bin laden kill.  Then, at the white house dinner last night, He grinned and laughed out loud at palin and trump... knowing full well that sunday night's release of this OBL news would dominate the news for days.

Being president gives you a lot of power to control events - and more importantly, their timing.  This will benefit him in 2012.  Maybe this is why may top repubs are avoiding the race?  Incumbents are tough to beat because they control our perception.

Obama has been VERY strong in terms of foreign policy.  Probably his strongest platform.

That's the best spin you can come up with?

Weak.

Spin is weak.

I don't recall people talking about how hard incumbents were to beat when Bush was running for re-election in 2004. We had whole news networks, fabricating stories and talking about "October surprises", all with the narrative that Bush was as good as gone.

Then, when he got re-elected, the lefties went NUTS. They couldn't believe it. By no mere coincidence, they took out their anger on evangelical Christians, who were cited as the bottom-of-the-9th-homerun that put Bush over the top, particularly with the whole state marriage amendments that were passed.

huge anti-war sentiment in 2004... bush could have lost.. but a videotape from bin laden released a few days before the election - where OBL actually ENDORSES Kerry for president...

The race was won by 1 state.  I'm sure many swing voters were swayed by this endorsement.  And the president is the boss of the man who runs the CIA... that tape gets released on thurs before election?  Sorry, that's the power of the incumbency at work!
