Title: McDonalds receives record number of applications, topping one million!
Post by: Deicide on May 02, 2011, 05:23:15 AM
http://fromtheleft.wordpress.com/2011/04/30/mcdonald%E2%80%99s-received-more-than-one-million-applications/

McDonald’s, the second largest restaurant chain in the world, hired 62,000 people in the USA after receiving more than one million applications, the Oak Brook, IL-based company said Friday. Previously, it said it planned to hire 50,000.

As President Obama enters his third year in office, and announced plans to run for reelection in 2012, the fact that more than one million Americans applied for jobs flipping burgers is a stunning example of his failure to do the one thing Americans want most: create jobs.

Meanwhile, the number of applications for unemployment benefits in the U.S. rose last week. A sign that progress in the labor market may be slipping away, as new jobless claims increased by 25,000 to 429,000 in the week ended April 23, the most in three months, according to data provided from the Labor Department.

So it remains a mystery to me just what President Obama can possibly point to as a reason to vote for him again. From my perspective all Obama has accomplished is $5 a gallon gas and a new war in Libya.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-04-28/mcdonald-s-hires-62-000-during-national-event-24-more-than-planned.html

McDonald’s Corp. (MCD), the world’s biggest restaurant chain, said it hired 24 percent more people than planned during an employment event this month.

McDonald’s and its franchisees hired 62,000 people in the U.S. after receiving more than one million applications, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said today in an e-mailed statement. Previously, it said it planned to hire 50,000.

The April 19 national hiring day was the company’s first, said Danya Proud, a McDonald’s spokeswoman. She declined to disclose how many of the jobs were full- versus part-time. McDonald’s employed 400,000 workers worldwide at company-owned stores at the end of 2010, according to a company filing.

The number of applications for unemployment benefits in the U.S. rose last week, a sign that progress in the labor market may be fading. Jobless claims increased by 25,000 to 429,000 in the week ended April 23, the most in three months, according to data from the Labor Department in Washington today.

Earlier this month, McDonald’s said sales at stores open at least 13 months climbed 2.9 percent in the U.S. after it attracted more diners with items such as beverages and the Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus burger. The fast-food chain has about 14,000 stores in the U.S. and more than 18,000 abroad. About 80 percent of all McDonald’s stores are franchised.

McDonald’s rose 16 cents to $78.03 at 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The shares gained 11 percent over the past 12 months.

Do you have any idea how bad the economy is in the US? Probably not.

What exactly do you do? Are you a financier or a banker?

I was wondering why my real estate agent was hocking Kid's Meals.

Here in Vegas, some jobs appear to be plentiful if you like security jobs, life guard positions (summer only), pool attendants (summer only), and other positions that used to be last minute choices when the economy was otherwise.

But you gotta be a good look'n guy or gal to get any of these jobs here in town.

A while back two of the highest paying jobs in Las Vegas were 'Parking Valet' or 'the guy who showed you to your table' in the larger Strip shows.

Now a days neither of those positions seem to exist any more (especially the somewhat dead mid-week days).

In many of the hotel/casinos you have to park your own ride and big show seats are assigned when you purchase your tickets so there's no need of a Matre'd no more.

Now the big pay goes to the Pit Bosses who get a share of the dealer's tokes.  One insider told me that their daily income is close to $500 and many times over that figure.

Not bad for some guy who stands there in a fancy suit looking tough and never smiles.

You have to apply to show the unemployment offices in order to keep collecting unemployment paychecks.  If you dont have a job and get one at McDonalds, that is great, at least money is coming in, and you again can start collecting unemployment checks if you quit later on.

Still, McDonalds hiring people is always good, for someone who has nothing.

No you don't, you do not have to apply anywhere to show you are trying, you get unemployment simply by answering questions whether you are willing and able to work.  Period, no questions asked.  Good system, need it to last maybe 5 years till this economic disaster is over and Obama can have the USA rise like a phoenix.

i don't think people on welfare care if you respect them or not, they can get up at 12 o clock and have a nice nights rest and I doubt your label of not respecting them doesn't effect them much lol.

Stupid claim like most people are happy with welfare. Lol. Wow, look at me I am on welfare! I need to sale my house, cars, and all that but I can get up at 12 o'clock. Most people are desperate for jobs and this fool thinks it is a free choice.

The Poor
by Kel Kelly

Socialists commonly cite the existence of the poor as a reason for socialism, and they claim that their concern for the poor shows compassion and morality. Since the topic of poverty is a key battleground in the war of socialism versus capitalism, it is relevant to examine what poverty is, how much of it exists in the United States, and how we can truly eliminate it.

Who Are The Poor?
When we hear of the poor, we envision a massive group of people without food and shelter. In reality, most of the poor in capitalistic countries such as the United States are not in such a state. Data from a recent census reveals that of the official "poor":[1]

•76 percent have air conditioning.
•66 percent have more than two rooms of living space per person.
•97 percent own at least one color television.
•62 percent have either cable or satellite television.
•Almost 75 percent of households own a car (30 percent own two or more).
•73 percent own microwave ovens.
•More than 50 percent have stereos.
•33 percent have automatic dishwashers.
•99 percent have refrigerators.
•Virtually none lack running water or flushing toilets.
•46 percent own their own home, the average of which is a three bedroom house with 1.5 baths, that has a carport and porch or patio, and the average value of which is 70 percent of the median American home.
If we observe our presumably poorest citizens on our public transportation systems we see that they have cell phones, adequate clothing, personal audio devices, and are generally clean and free of disease and deformities. They also have the comfort of using a heated and air-conditioned transportation car that has carpet and flat-panel televisions for their amusement (paid for primarily by the wealthy, of course).

If you were to compare these American poor to the poor in Bolivia, Honduras, Cambodia, or India (or even to many of the poor in Mexico, Romania, Thailand, and Russia), you would see a stark difference. The poor in these countries often literally live in open-air huts with large leaves for roofs and stacked bricks that serve as a shared stove for multiple families. For the poor of the third-world countries, there is, for the most part, no money, no exchange of goods — just basic survival by subsistence farming or by hunting or fishing for food. To these people, American street sweepers and factory workers live a life of luxury.

The difference between the "wealthy poor" in capitalist countries and the "deprived and desolate poor" in noncapitalist countries is no coincidence. The freedom that exists in capitalistic countries results in more invested capital per worker. This means that workers can produce far more wealth for themselves and for the rest of society. In noncapitalist countries today (and in the days before capitalism first appeared) poverty really means that no work is available; there is no means by which to improve one's state of being, or even to maintain it.
