Now we see this in many different cultures and it baffles me; when you congratulate someone under normal circumstances, it is because of some hard fought accomplishment or achievement, yet the act of insemination or the opening of one's vaginal orifice to a penis is neither an accomplishment nor an achievement. I could understand saying something to the effect of 'health to the baby' (and a Greek friend informed me they do this in Greece) but congratulations? In the UK many 14 year olds inseminate other 14 year olds; are they to be congratulated? It just strikes me as totally illogical and is obivously born of emotion, not reason. If someone has worked through great adversity to achieve a goal, then congratulations are in order but simply ejaculating inside a vagina? spreading one's legs? It makes no sense.

wow, just any reason to hate on women round here. any reason at all ::)

Is that the subject of your dissertation?

No, mine will be about evolutionary psychology.

Congratulations don't have to be limited to hard fought accomplishments and achievements. For the most part, starting/growing a family is something that brings people joy, and congratulating them is just an acknowledgment of that.
So, it does make sense.

People are really saying "Nice job getting that rent check guarantee". If the guy is a stud and/or rich, it's "Nice catch, girl".

No offence Groink, but I highly doubt a man at your age doesn't have to trim nose hairs... ::)

I have so many, which one do you mean? ???

Groink is right. It's a wonderful thing.
Some people who would love kids, can't. My cousin is 43, about to turn 44 soon. Been on IVF for 4 years and tried for 2 years without help to conceive. After many miscarriages, her due date is in July. It's a huge congratulations. Now not sure what to say to a preggo 14 year old, I think I'd be more speechless.

I suppose in the case of infertility and great struggle it makes sense, but certainly not for the average insemination.
In the UK it is very common for a 14 year old or even a 13 year to be pregnant.

She should have tried 20 yrs ago...now, it's more about vanity, selfishness (to me)...because I know of about 8 40+ yr olds with newborn kids or about 3ish, and they either can't discipline them or are tired running after them...
40+yr olds shouldn't have kids in my book---because by the time you are 50ish-60ish, who wants to run with a 10 or 20 yr old? Shit is tiresome...
I agree with Groink---but, I can see what Deceide is saying, in absolute terms, why are you giving congrat to a woman for doing what a woman should do---have kids?
But, wishing one well, in terms of having a healthy child is the polite thing to do.

She was getting her career then. It was hard for many years to get preggo. I agree, I cant imagine have a newborn at her age or older.
