Over one-quarter of the performers who took part in 1991's Wrestlemania VII have died, a wrestling website noted in the wake of the death of "Macho Man" Randy Savage.
The Wrestling Observer newsletter discovered that 14 of the 51 performers at the event have died in the past 20 years, with many of the deaths attributed to drug use (link is subscription only).
The list of wrestlers who have died since 1991 include some of the biggest stars in the sport like Savage, Andre the Giant, Miss Elizabeth and The British Bulldog. Causes of death include suicides, murder and heart attacks, some the result of years of anabolic steroid use. Savage died last week after suffering an apparent heart attack behind the wheel of his truck. His ex-wife, Miss Elizabeth, passed away after overdosing on a variety of drugs in 2003.
Looking at the list is a sobering reminder of the realities of a make-believe sport like professional wrestling. Not all of the men and women listed played a part in their own demise; referee Joey Marella was the victim of a car crash that occurred when he was driving home from a match.
As wrestlinginc.com points out, none of the 44 starters from the Super Bowl played in 1991 have passed away and only two of 44 boxers who held a championship belt that year are gone.
At 58, Savage made it nearly a decade longer than some of his deceased colleagues.

...because we all know that there are absolutely no athletes in the NFL or boxing that would stoop sooo low as to use PED...
Do these 'joun-a-lists' even think before they write this crap?
-
proof?
If they say years of use, they stupid. Maybe abuse, but again, blame it on steroids, right? ???
-
FACT: Most wrestlers don't hit 45
FACT: 90% of wrestler death's are attributed to heart attack (most of the time from a combination of uppers and downers)

LOL, i was thinking the same.
Just look at wrestlers, what they are doing is not exactly healthy, then count in bad diet, recreational drugs, pain killers and whatever.
But surely it must be the steroids. ::) ::)

most wrestlers are obese
-
these same people that write aas related deaths believe Phelps is drug free, they believe lance armstrong is drug free, they dont know that the whole baseball and nfl leagues are on ped's, they believe the ones that got caught are the only ones
stupid

bingo. wrestlers treat their bodies like shit. all that jumping on top of each other bidness. taking meth / vicos / soma etc. plus the majority are southern ergo fried catfish, moonshine and tornados!
-
A fairer comparison would be to compare the life expectancy of wrestlers to people in other entertainment industries like actors and musicians. People use coke like chewing gum in all these industries. Most pro athletes are so overpaid they can afford private treatment their whole life to offset the PED use.
-
Crush died from an adverse reaction to prescription medication
-
90% of the dead wrestlers were a result of PAIN KILLER ABUSE. 5% were natural causes and the balance is suicide. Get it right. People die every single day in their twenties and thirties of heart failure, alcohol, tobacco, cancer, etc.
-
can these writers actually be this damn stupid and lazy? or maybe they KNOW the truth AND WANT TO WRITE THE TRUTH, but their editors and newspapers and magazines tell them NO.... go with the steroid angle, it sells, just like sex does!
if that is the case, i guess we have to blame these editors and the writers for being gutless and wanting to keep their job, no matter they are spreading stupidity and lies!
then again, maybe these writers are INDEED THAT LAZY AND STUPID! guys who never played sports, are insecure and jealous, lazy and stupid, etcetera!

x100 Their heart are maxxed out by the time they hit their mid 40s running yelling jumping off shit and breaking bones on a weekly basis. Never giving their bodies time to heal. Then they die when??? after they retire. Because they go from being fucking pill popping drug abusers to dead beats with no income. Sudden change in lifestyle this coupled with depression from their horrible existence equals heart attack or suicide

a lot of guys were even younger like louis spicolli and testicle, who ironically quit the business for his health at 33. he died with his face in a pizza and a 2 lt bottle of coke the drink by his side.

More notable- EVERY past winner of the Mr. Olympia is still alive.
-
The above list is only a tiny sample of the deaths of pro wrestlers in the last decade.
Maybe it is all the punishment they put their bodies through plus all the pain killers, booze, etc, they take to offset it.

Anyone know Savage's physical condition at the time of his death?
Most of the power athletes(I'll include wrestlers not abusing rec. drugs for the sake of arguement) I've seen pass tended to carry way too much weight long after their training days are over. Most tended to died of the same things that kill regular 58 year old obese guys too.
