Tomato plants are barely in season, if it was big it died naturally. If it's a tiny little thing, plant another one...

Yes :D it was the only time I had but I put a shitload of ice cubes in it as well. I just can't see how it would die so quickly, I don't even think it's been 48 hours. No tomatoes have fallen off or anything but the plant looks like it's hanging a little lower than two days ago.

Were they planted in containers or the ground?...

Ninety percent of successfull gardening is consistent moisture levels in the soil/growing medium.

Did you water the plants consistently while in your care?...Or did you just do it once?

If the plants are far too gone,  make a gift of an automatic irrigation system controled with a moisture sensor to your girlfriend...as an apology gift.

You burned the plant but it's still alive. Go get some high nitrogen soil like Gro Mulch and mix it into the soil, do not take it out and replant it, it could go into shock and not revive the transfer. Should come back in about 24-48 hrs.

Containers mean you have to watch the moisture very carefull and water very consistently. Coach's suggestion sounds good, but I am not familiar with that brand name.  Miracle Gro water soluble fertilizer would work too, mix it with the water.

Did she plant them soon before leaving?...it could possibly be they would have done this regardless of what you did.

Same shit happened to me while watching my in-laws plants, but they just wanted me to check on them, they had an automatic sprinkler system which malfunctioned and started over watering them, they fucking drowned, shit was bad but they didn't seem that upset

I know about this stuff but your first post don't make sense at all to me  ??? I worked with tomatoes the last year and I never saw a plant die  too fast (48 hours). Tomatoes need a lot of water though, so if they were neglected before with you girl, and you only put a little water, it could be that but you nedd to give us more info. PTPS (post the plant shots) ;)

Huh? Did you put ice cubes to the water you used to irrigate them?

why were you not staying at her house while this occurred.  Water plants every 12 hours or so if your worried, just don't over water.  You shouldn't have work that much, just call off or make up some excuse why you can't come in, you have to keep her plants alive.  I tell you they work you to death in this country.

You probably over watered the tomatos.

If you over water tomatos they will die fast.

Put some plant food like miracle grow on them and try to dry them out.

Pay attention to how wet the oil is you fool.

I can't believe some people don't even know how to grow plants. When civilization collapses and things turn to shit you city boys are gonna die quick. Thank God....

They are just wilting.  More Water, but do not overwater.  No they are not dying.

No.  DO NOT do this.  DO NOT MESS WITH HER SOIL.

The plant is merely wilting and will recover quickly with the right amount of water.  They just need more.

Also, tell her to pick the tomatoes when they are not just ripe from the plant. NEVER let them get red on the plant.  Pick them when they are a pale reddish orange and let them ripen off the plant.  You will have 100 percent tomato success.  I have no idea why people waste tomatoes and end up with mostly a bad mushy mess as they leave them on the plant to rot when they think its ripe.  Its not.  Do as I say and you will have fresh tomatoes with every single fruit.

I've never heard of putting ice cubes in water to water plants...maybe this "shocked" them?

Acurate post here. They just need more water. Best way to tell if they are watered correctly is stick you finger in the dirt to your first knuckle and the soil should be moist to the tip of your finger.
My basil wilts about every 3-4 days then looks great the next day. Got basil, oregano, rosemary and tomatoes going in pots right now. Strawberries, zucchini, red and yellow bell peppers in the raised garden. Zuccs are going to be ready for harvest sometime this week. Can't wait, slice longways into quarters and grill on the Weber grill.
Don't worry though, her plants are GTG.
