while I was driving I saw another car running over a small dog just in fornt of me, coudnt stop because it was quick and I was distracted so I only had the time to dodge the body of the animal. Watched in the rear mirror a woman on the side walk in panick with her hands on her head while her pet was lying in the middle of the street and all the cars were passing without stoping or even almost running over it again.
I made a turn on the block and went there again and offered help to drive them to the closest veterinary clinic. The dog was already on the hands of the woman but it was dead with a neck totally brocken. As the lady was crying some boy was preparing a garbage the sack to put the dog in it and thats it. This image along with the scence in my memory of cars passing by very fast and close to the dogs dead body, like no one was caring, hit me brutally and I started to cry. I told the lady that I was sorry and that my family has a 13 year old dog too but couldnt stop the crying, the dude "burring" the dog started to look at me strangely so I upped the windows on my car and drove til the next corner where I could park and cried non stop for one minute straight. After this I felt better but the image of all of it is still strong in my mind. First time I presenced something like this and probably the only time I cried in the last 10 years or so.

Portuguese is fascinating because of its so-called 'personal' infinitive (which is quite paradoxical) but it does seem to be very interesting...

People get pretty emotional over dogs. I remeber going to the vet and putting our family dog down with my pops. First time I ever saw him cry. We both cried hard for about 5 minutes. :-\

Actually, no...Portuguese is very "sing-songy", listening to it, it has a "flow" to it that sounds very cool, just like French has a certain flow to it---like the Frenchman said, "it's the best language to curse in..."

in brazil even the poor have maids, dont forget we dont have to import this kind of labor. But our maid is with my family for 29 years now, very reliable and we consider her part of the family too.

A young couple was moving in next door and their cat ran into the street and was hit by a city metro bus while we were conversing...oh man, it hit them hard and it was so bad of a situation.

I dodged a new family of ducklings following their mom across the highway. It was rush hour so they got plowed shortly after me. I think a few lived because for the next several days I only saw a few squished ducklings on the road. That fucked me up for a day or two. Dammit this thread is depressing. :-\

jeez dude.. if animals want to run out in front of large moving object traveling at much faster speeds than they do.. so be it. shit happens. no ones fault other than the pee brain species now dead.. and the persons that let em off the chain or out of the yard.

I went to a deer farm today where they take in injured and abandoned deer and nurse them back to health. It was pretty cool; the deer come right up to you and eat out of your hand. This one little doe kept following me around everywhere I went.

It was a dog. Not a kid. But i guess it was someone's pet.
Saying that, i do my best to avoid running over anything living in my car be it toads, mice, lizards, dogs, sheep whatever. As long as it's not going to endanger me or other drivers i'll slow down/swerve to let an animal cross in front of me.

Sad story. I saw a dog get run over by a car before and it is a horrible scene to watch, nothing I could do for the dog though, because it died instantly.

Your story was moving none the less. Obviously, you communicate better than you think. Sad story though. I have lost a couple of dogs to traffic in my lifetime, it is always hard to take. Fortunately, I have never hit a dog. I have avoided a few possums over the years. I break for squirrels.

The average dog has the intelligence of a two year old human. Don't blame the dogs for running into the street, blame the owner/parent who aren't watching them more carefully.
