Alcohol induced cardiac myopathy is reversible once you stop drinking.

I love power drinking and listening huey lewis and the news, but my neighbors call the cops when I do.

We're all bound to die my friend, if it's our fate we will die due to excessive liquid consumption. We can all hope we die doing something we enjoy.

shit even then, with alcohol, I've met people who drink EVERYDAY, their whole lives, and they're fine. You're good bud, have a drink tonight.

I drink to sleep usually, when I am depressed. Sometimes I go a few days without really leaving the house, just going to and from the liquor store, and drinking to sleep. I suppose I am glad drinking doesn't make me energetic haha.

Alcohol Lowers Testosterone, Increases Estrogen
If you're a guy and you're STILL unsure whether to reduce or eliminate alcohol from your diet, here's yet another fact for you to ponder: alcohol lowers testosterone and increases estrogen, often bringing about gynecomastria (male breast enlargement) due to increased conversion of testosterone and other aromatizable androgens to estrogen.
It can also lead to testicular atrophy, low sperm count, and difficulty in performing sexually via erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, if you work out to feel and look stronger you should be aware that alcohol is preventing you from making as much progress as you should. It does this by destroying muscle gains in several ways, including lowering testosterone, dehydration, preventing vitamin absorption, and much more.

I find that red wine gives rock hard erections and explosive libido.
Thanks red wine..
-
In my 41 years I have never been drunk. And until very recently, never even enjoyed any kind of alcoholic beverage.
Now I have developed a taste for whisky. Jack Daniel's to be exact. Not that I drink tonnes of it, mind you, but a small sip at night straight from the bottle goes good with some heavy metal music. And both the whisky and metal are made for all men, but not all men are made for whisky and metal.

Some drinks do that, not all kinds.

good advice, ditch the alcohol and stick to upright rows and toast.
I am trying you guys...Over the last few months, I went deeper into the hole than I have ever been, but the last couple weeks I have been digging myself out of it. Nearly clean now, just had a little rum a few days ago, and have been lifting again. I feel great, and can not for the life of me figure out what is driving me to drink! Go to workout, feel amazing, happy! And when just when my guard is down, suddenly I am reaching for a bottle of rum while reading something online, or watching tv...I can not even begin to say why I drink...There is no good reason for it.
-
bodybuilding has always kept my drinking under control. you can't be a bodybuilder and drink all the time lol.
it's like dieting though. first week or 2 are hard, then it gets easy. do the same with drinking, grow some balls, get through that rough first patch and you'll be alright after that.

Depression and you`re self medicating bro.
Do positive shit with positive people and nip this shit in the bud................I`ve never seen anything good come from drinking and I drank and drugged for 33 years or so.
I don`t preach to people as a rule, but I do try to help others if possible.
See a therapist or hit a few AA meetings and focus on getting into the best shape of your life as one goal of many you can set to keep your mind/body occupied and in a positive place........oh yeah, get laid a lot too but don`t look for chicks in bars. :)

Drinking in moderation may actually be good for your heart. A drink or two, once or twice in a week helps many folks relax. You should counter dehydration by drinking plenty of water. As with anything, moderation is key. If you drink too much, it is bad for your health. People who have trouble controlling their drinking are better off finding some other method of relaxation.

I think a major setback has been watching my body fade over the years. I lived and breathed bbing since I was 14, the way I look now it not natural for me. At all.
Hence my return to getbig and my home forum.
We will see...Appreciate the well wishes.

Obviously, you feel like this is a problem and so it is for you. If you have any rum in the house now, pour it down the drain. Be the one in control, don't let the rum control you. Next time you reach for the rum it won't be their and rather then drive to the store, perhaps you might find something better to do and drink. The key is you have to want to do this. No one can do it for you.

Be the best you can be. Don't be unrealistic. Unless you are ill, there is no reason you cannot look and feel 100% better than most guys regardless of your age. Believe me, I know. I am sixty-six and in many ways I look better now than I ever have (in terms of muscle mass and general fitness). Accept what you cannot change. For example, I am bald and my beard is white. Rather than worry about it, I rock it! And I am glad that bald is in style.
Depression is counterproductive to one's good health. Drinking actually makes folks more depressed....duh, alcohol is a depressant. When you feel depression coming on, go to the gym and workout. You'll forget all about being depressed and your body will appreciate it and reward you with better health and maybe a good pump.
-

I am totally aware of this. Sadly mental illness (from schizophrenia to bi-polar to depression, alcoholism etc) runs HARD in my family. I am fighting an uphill battle, and it was bodybuilding that kept me from it. That and God. Now I am on my own, and on my own I fell hard. However, getting back to my roots, and working hard at it.
I appreciate the well wishes, I really do.

Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is very rare. Worry about your liver instead. fasting to "detox" is BS.

The impact of ones family history of substance abuse and mental illness can be overwhelming at times, I know this from personal experience. Don't allow bodybuilding to be a "was" and make it the reason why you will not succumb to the shortcomings of your forefathers. Everyone is on their own when all is said an done. You are much stronger than you give yourself credit for being.
The big thing is that you've acknowledged the problem....looked the devil in the eye, so to speak. Don't undersell you ability to overcome your history and be all that you want to be. Be strong. Live strong.
Trust me, most of us have dysfunction in our lives. Some of us cave to it and the stronger among us, like you, overcome it.
-

Fasting to detox is far from BS. Buying "supps" and/or liver aids for your liver is BS. But I'm willing to bet you have taken your fair share of Bullshit liver aid products.

Four full days now with not a drop of booze, I have never felt better! I drank myself so deep into the abyss that the thought of drinking makes me sick to my stomach.
The last few weeks, I was up and down, and managed to really cut back. Now I am aiming for a fucking kick ass summer!
God willing I will stay on track this time, and finally become what I was meant to be, which is NOT a trainwreck of a human life!

At the risk of sounding crazy, my happiness and ability to be content seems to be partly from working out, partly from re-discovering my love of music, and partly THE SUN!
Being out in the sun is an amazing feeling! I spent far too long couped up in my fucking bedroom drinking myself to death. No more!!!!
THE SUN IS FUCKING GLORIOUS!!!!!

i can stay unbeleivably cooler while working in doors with sub par AC running (still hot and stuffy inside) while drinking beer, i had three 5.5 % icehouses today at work i saved the eating till i got home. this morning though i ate some protien powders and lima beans. i felt great today at work. i was much cooler than normal and less stiff in my legs
when i got home i was debating to have a 4th beer but instead decided to eat some wholesome bean burritos on corn tortilla and some mac and cheese...
the beer really motivates me to get shit done not sure if ill have another one today or not. but i know drinking beer at work is an essential habit to get through the boredom and to feel more loose on my feet

what would be a good liver test to see if its still incheck after drinking more quantities of beer?
or best to just get bloodwork done after a few month trial of drinking more beer
-
Not that fucking high bro IMO i refused breath test. I had about 5-6 over the night. Arresting mofos for dwi is big business over here. one of the mufuckin ho cops commented how sober I looked at arrival at jail.
Yea mofos around the border always trying to jump people out of the "Beer drive throughs" pull them over. The upright rows probably kept you in check on looking sober.

You will stay on track this time because it is what you wisely choose to do. Good to remember how sick you felt on the sauce. Anything that reminds you that you don't want or need it in your life, you should use a a tool to stay clean and healthy.

Do you look at yourself in the mirror as you stick the needle in?
When I stick it in my ass, I do. Otherwise, how would I know if I'd hit the right spot. Today I pinned my thigh muscle. -Hurts a little more, but I don't have to look in the mirror to do it! LOL.

If I can stay sober, anybody can.
Keep it going Mike.

Im not trying to judge but if you cant stay alcohol free for even 8 hours of a workday you may have a dependency on the substance that could turn into full blown alcoholism if it hasn't already...I have seen many successful people ruin there health and there careers as a result of alcohol...and the sad thing is the whole time they was doing it to themselves they had justifications as to why they needed to drink...(they deserved it,it made them more productive, and so on)...

i hate pinning my glutes, but need to every once in a while when shoulders and arms are `full` lol!
never pin thighs, hate it... leaves bumps and hurts.

I drank every weekend of my life up until a couple years ago, when I beat some guy up real bad in a drunken rage and nearly went to jail for it. THATS when I realized I had a serious problem, I never admitted it up until that point. So booze definitely sent me on the wrong track and was on its way to ruining my life.
