... what in gods green goodness is this?
"Look at that mass!" Who is the commentator? Lonnie Teper?

"Look at that mass!" Who is the commentator? Lonnie Teper?
It's Vince McMahon.
-
Would have liked to see someone run in and smack him with a chair.
-
All Mike Quinn a crazy mofo.
-
Hilarious. Vince is two seconds away during the whole routine from blowing a hose ... and his load.
Poor fucker desperately trying to drum up excitement for what he must have known was gonna be a colossal failure, his WBF.
;D
-
And he calls him "Jerry" Strydom, too. Nice. ::)
-
they gave it their best effort to add some excitement to what is essentially a nearly naked oiled man strutting his body for other cheering males.
-
If Gary did not go to the WBF; 1991 wouldve been the best olympia's of the 90's
Haney, Yates, Strydom
1991 was Strydom at his very best.

That was actually more exciting than this past NY Pro or Mr. O...thar is how it should have been marketed...with more excitement...

haha.. this. only its 'screaming males' :-X
i remember watching some wbf 8)

never knew about WBF. while I do think you can better the contests in many ways, that format was very strange to see with the over-amped up commentary. That's the style in which american wrestling is commented I take it?
-
awesome!! way better than pro shows of today where we can see retards dancing on ghetto music

What else do you expect from Vince McMahon, he's the god of Pro Wrestling. Tried a lot of things: WBF-ailure, XFL-ure, :)
But he has some crazy ideas at some times :)
-
Interestingly enough, Gary made more in those 2 years than he would have in a lifetime at the WBF...
Anyone know if he is doing the Masters show in Florida?

you wouldnt dare to go to todays bbing competitions as a straight healthy man anymore.

That's the edited clip from the 1991 WBF Championship, aired on WBF BodyStars, with Vince McMahon's voice dubbed over the actual commentators, Tom Platz and Greg Lewis.
Here's the real deal, with his intro film.

Honestly, I don't think the WBF or the XFL was a complete failure. Because of the WBF, bodybuilder's started getting much better compensation in their supplement contracts and a lot of the XFL camera shots and in helmet commentary is used in the NFL.
You have to fail a few times in life in order to succeed. That's why Vince is a billionaire.

Strydom, I believe, is the first man to get a six-figure check for winning a pro bodybuilding show.

Unfortunately, the WBF guaranteed that we'll get no legitimate drug testing for pro shows. The second (and final) WBF Championship shows what happens when guys are tested constantly and tested for everything but the kitchen sink.

He came to compete but first he has to mow down a few ninjas with a machine gun. Take that Flex.

;D
Fixed.

I remember the Mike Quinn part as very funny. He was fat as hell and they made up a show in which he was arrested or something.

You're referring to the 1992 WBF show. The arrest gimmick was part of his pre-film routine. The one guy who legitimately did not show up was "The Phoenix" Vince Comeford, who was sidelined with pneumonia.
-
Haney and Yates would have left him for dead
I beg to differ. Strydom looked terrific. Yes, his back is mediocre; but so was Yates' chest and Haney's legs, both strong points on Strydom.
-
WBF and XFL ???
The man likes money wasting ventures.

WBF was killed by the steroid scandal around the WWF. Feds were up his behind; Ferrigno bailed; and (for at least PR purposes) he had to hire Dr. Mauro Dispasquale to test these guys for everything under the sun.
Mike Christian lost a month's check ($25,000) for popping positive.

Here's a partial clip of Eddie from the first championship.

I love the announcer in the Gary S clip, he cracks me up.

That's the thing why I put "wtf" in the title. Never have I heard a grown man that excited over the mere sight of a muscle man in his battle thong. ;D
-
If I remember right Gary made 375k for his second year, that's probably more than anyone out side of the top 5 pros in the world will make in 10 - 20 years today and this was 20 years ago
-
"Top hat and a cane. Talk about stepping out for a night on the town. Oh my goodness!"

"Look at the striations!"
Yes. What are we else supposed to be looking at? The two girls? Naahhh ;D

That's Vince McMahon, the then-owner of the WBF. That's how he does commentary for wrestling. But, as mentioned earlier, he dubbed his voice (in that clip from BodyStars) over the actual commentators for the show, Greg Lewis and Tom Platz.

And that's why bodybuilder's contracts are for much higher pay than they used to be. Shawn Ray was the golden boy of Weider but at the time I think he was only getting paid only 1000 dollars a month from his supplement contract at the time. Now that doesn't count his ESPN contract or his prize money but when you see folks like Mike Christian making 25k a month from the WBF plus commission from action figures, magazine photoshoots, and the ICON supplement line, you tend to get a little jealous.
WBF allowed for bodybuilders to get much better compensation so it wasn't a complete failure.

If you can find the video of Berry De Mey posing it literally sounds like Vince is violently humping the desk in front of him "AW YEAH, AW YEAH.... AW HE'S GOT IT! HE'S GOT IT ALL THIS GUY! AW NICE LOOK AT THOSE ABS, AW LOOK AT THEM!"

That's from the second (1992) championship. I can't find DeMey's routine. But, to make your point about McMahon's enthusiasm during his commentary, here's Strydom's 1992 routine.
-
This thread is killing me, seriously. Listening to Vince destroy his voice trying to kick up some excitement is priceless.

Excessive "waddle..."
constant tongue in cheek (there has to be something to that)- stole that move from Shawn Ray? Afraid there might be some spinach (or worse) stuck in there?
Booooooyah!
-
No wonder the WBF folded right quick!
-
I don't know what you guys are talking about, Vince is displaying the same demeanor that the thousands of men in attendance at the Mr. Olympia display as well.
The last Mr. Olympia I attended 2009, had grown men going insane, screaming out their favorite pro's name as they viciously posed across that stage. The wives of these men merely served as armrests as these men snapped away and whistled their hearts out.

He wasn't just trying to kick up the excitment he was actually obssessed with bodybuilding.
Difinitive history of the WBF.
http://pwchronicle.blogspot.com/2005/12/history-definitive-history-of-wbf.html (http://pwchronicle.blogspot.com/2005/12/history-definitive-history-of-wbf.html)
"McMahon was enamored with the bodybuilding lifestyle and through his World Wrestling Federation pushed awe-inspiring physiques above all else. Vince McMahon’s physique had been changing drastically in recent years as he experimented with steroids and moved closer to the body type of the professional wrestlers whom he employed. In the 1980's, when McMahon and his aids would gather to screen the NWA's pay-per-views, McMahon would often disappear to another room during unimportant matches with a set of dumbbells before returning several moments later sweaty and no longer wearing a shirt according to Muchnick." - Quote.

lol, "Oh my goodness look at this majesty. Look at that! He's like an 18-wheeler."
-
Is it Irony that this pathetic buffoonery is still better than today's embarrassing shows ???
-
I would actually watch shows if the commentary was this entertaining.
-

It seems like a well made production with intro videos and stuff.
As late as the 2001, Mr O seemed to have a huge and elaborated stage with diagonal bridges, brighter lighting and thighter editing than the more recent ones. But maybe that was one of the last televised ones and more money behind it?
-
Here is the "The Future" Jim Quinn (1992)
And "The Jetman" Tony Pearson
I notice no one is busting on Tom Platz, who's going almost as nuts as McMahon is, especially when his friend and former rival, Tony Pearson, is on stage. He was not nearly as animated, doing commentary with Greg Lewis at the previous show.
-
Here's Quinn at the 1991 show (space helmet and all).
-
Eddie Robinson stayed with McMahon for an extra two years, endorsing ICOPRO, to the tune of his original WBF salary (purported to be $225,000 per year).
No wonder he was in no rush to go back to the IFBB.

Strydom promo on Prime Time Wrestling (I think).

Somebody with the hardware should get this, rip it and upload it.

If that salary is correct, and McMahon was paying that, think about this Ben Weider died a billinaire...and the supp companies give out chump chain, think about how many body bbers would nt have to do g4p to pay for food, roids, etc if they were paid a decent salary by the companies that sponsor them...

I have the 1991 Championship tape (bought it about a month ago for $8, nearly half of which was shipping). But, I'm a bit antiquated and don't know how to put it online.

This thread must survive. Vince is AWESOME. Listen to him after he asks for Gary to give everyone a peek at what they can expect come contest time. Classic. The guy is doing everything but furiously stroking his wanger.

That's just Vince McMahon. He gets just as hopped up, during his wrestling commentary.
