Lots of cops in the USA really are assholes on a macho power trip.
Losers who never accomplished shit in life or did anything great. But they made it through police academy and got their badge, and now they think they are untouchable.
I stay away from American cops. Lots of them really are fucked in the head and on an agro power trip. They love to fuck with people just for laughs.
Some of them are cool, but seems like the cool one are only like 10% of them.

IMO the police in America are starting to go from "To Protect and Serve",
to "To meet quotas and make revenue to pay for bankrupt government"
I used to be one of those guys that said the police are just doing their job, but since Ive lived in Houston, Ive gotten pulled over 6 times (Only been pulled over 8 times in 8 years of 10 years of driving),
and all 6 were for stupid reasons at the end of the month where an officer was just walking into the street, stopping people with his hand, and writing them a random ticket for whatever he could find wrong. (Seatbelt, Rolling through a stop sign <-- which was total bullshit, I stopped, seatbelt again, going 4 over, and one for an inspection sticker)
Pisses me off that the Police department now is just another revenue supplier for the Gov, really pisses me off that instead of being out finding bad guys, you know, drug dealers, rapists, murderes, etc, that theyre sitting parked on the side of the road stopping random people so they can write them a ticket for whatever they can find wrong.

Last thing you want to do is get pulled over and have a reason like "I'm going to my buddys funeral" or some shit. I usually say I got into a fight with my girlfriend and try to pull a tear or two out of my ass and they let me go, has worked 3 times now, out of 3 tries. In one stop I had not only blown a stop sign but was going 65 in a 35 or something ridic.

For every cop that is pulling you over and being (supposedly) unreasonable, there is another on a call for a shooting (sometimes for attention, sometimes for blood)- and another who is rescuing a family member from a bad scene.

This is true and a lot of officers are just doing their jobs, but Im taking offense with the officers who are literally just stopping people to hand out tickets for anything they can get you for. All the times I got stopped, the officers didnt even run my license, didnt check my insurance, just wrote the ticket for whatever it was that stood out immediatley and waved my by, then walked out in from of the next car that pulled through the blind spot a couple cars behind me and did it again.
Bullshit.

Its with everything else, there are some bad once and a whole bunch of good cops
I know a couple and I can speak for all of them when I say they are truly concerned about the people they look after, they hate the bad cops that give them a bad name as much maybe even more than we do because they make their job harder.
Always easy to go all hippie *oh fuck the establishement fuck cops ::) but a total different thing to try to understand what these men and woman have to endure day in day out, people spitting, biting and vomiting at them, people with Aids and a big mouth, crazy people people that want to kill them etc etc etc.

The States, cities and counties are broke. They are being briefed in the morning (or before shifts) that they had better make the city some money or they will all be facing cuts in salaries (by way of city budget cuts)- therefore, they are now spending more time as beat-cops walking around writing for registrations, tint, "slammed" too low (ever heard of such a thing?)- no front plates, blacked out lights... cell phone usage-- you name it.
They have to bring in the revenue to justify and keep their jobs or at least keep their pay the same.
Many Highway Patrols and Sheriffs are being forced to work in prisons and in the bigger, higher crime rated cities just to have a job.
It sucks on both ends. It's not like they look forward to writing you for having a badass ride and going over it with a fine-toothed comb. Not at all.
Some are dicks, but that goes in every profession where power and authority are delegated. Not many folks know how to deal with being in a position of authority. They abuse it. Many are not "just"

i have a friend who's a cop, and i haven't seen him since January. He's been working almost every day, because apparently the state outright stopped hiring troopers, and as they retire, they just expand the responsibility radius of the existing workers.
there is no overtime, and it's one of those "happy to have a job" situations for them.

Here's the rub: What if the (underpaid/over-worked) cop gets called into a guns-blazing situation? Is he gonna be in a big hurry "just because?" or is he gonna kick back and say "they don't pay me enough to get my ass killed...?"

Yeah I know, its complete BS, the police force shouldnt be forced to fuck over the people theyre hired to protect so they can get their paycheck to feed their families. All its doing is turning citizens against the police force even moreso. The government is shitting its pants right now, and it pisses me off that the media hides how fucked things are from people.
Freedom of press my ass, I cant figure out if the media chooses a side and just controls everything that comes out trying to make their side look good, or if the government actually somewhat controls the media outlets.

I don't get you guys. I have no interaction with the Police. I haven't gotten pulled over in 20 plus years. Cops always have to respond to a bad situation. Fights, domestics, neighbor disputes, lost kids, car accidents and such. No one ever calls a cop because they are happy.

I found a dead hawk that I wanted to take to the preparateur (dunno the English word, taxidermist or something ?). Because it's a protected animal a note from the police was required. Because they were out of forms, I left the bird there for a while. That evening the bird was delivered at my house by the police, with the requiered forms filled out. Police are nice people.

There is some truth to this statement...as a former deputy sheriff , I can tell you first hand that certain people can't seem to get their shit together....and it's always someone else's fault. They get pulled over for a minor traffic violation, turns out they have no insurance, or on a suspended license,etc....don't show up in court, license gets suspended, or warrant issued, and on and on...

Thats why I decided to work in the field of Corrections since everyone I dealt with were found legally guilty anyways. That, and it was a much easier field to get into with better job security. I don't feel like harassing working joes or dealing with the politics.

I have easily been pulled over 40+ times in the past 10 years and been in jail a few weeks as well on multiple incidences, but for the most part, all the cops i have dealt with are pretty cool. Every time i went to jail it was cause of my own dumb ass actions and cant really blame the cop.
I have also been let off some extreme ticket situations before (100 in a 60 and 110 in a 70) and have easily had cops dismiss tickets just for me be honest. Sorry officer i was speeding..no excuse no reason on why to get out....odds are if a cop is a dick to you, you did something to deserve it.
I have had many run-ins with the police and have never had a situation where is can say a cop was a pure dick to me for no reason.
