there are days where i barely eat a quarter of my bodyweight via grams of protein.
I seem to be dieting fine and retaining all muscle.
All this excess of protein is so overrated IMO
granted im not a huge guy but i dont see why eating over 0.5 grams of protein for every pound is a must
-
maybe you're not losing muscle because you hardly have any to lose

You know what they say..
Supposedly to "maintain" (Not to be confused with gaining muscle) what muscle you have, you're supposed to take in about 1 gram of protein for every kilo of bodyweight.
So, say you weigh 200 pounds (90 or so Kilos), with about 90 grams of protein/daily, you should be set.
That's what "they" say...

+1
and on the thread topic, unless you are carrying some serious mass beyond your natural limits, obscene protein intake is pretty much unnecessary to maintain your lean mass.

What is your strength like? I always felt stronger and recovered faster when I was on higher protein, eating lots of red meat. Wouldn't say it was all a placebo effect.

kiwi, not sure what it is about that sort of diet, but I know what you are saying. regardless of red meat or others, when I maintain a high protein moderate carb diet I feel on top of the world. when the macros change and I am eating heavy carbs etc. during holidays and such I feel like shit. for the most part I like to keep the meat intake high and carbs in moderation.

I agree. Protein for a natural lifter is overrated, now if you're on drugs it may be different.
I eat less than 1gr/lb and there is no difference in muscle gain/loss if calories are the same, plus I feel great with higher carbs/lower protein.

Not much different
Ive done a high protein diet before and I think I was a tad stronger back then but barely noticeable.
Life is so much better when you can eat carbs and the foods you want.

Its a few months old yea but I more or less look and weigh the same now.

very true. to retain muscle you can eat like any other person. HIGH DOSAGES OF PROTEIN IN NATURAL BBING IS UTTER BULLSHIT
