Comment from the article, LOL, talk about getting owned
"Well, won't wonders never cease. I remember back in the 80s sometime, when Whitey "won" the Massachusetts state lottery. It was actually won by some poor blue collar schlub in Revere who, a few days after his name was announced as the winner, stated that he was actually 'partners' with Whitey on the ticket."

I was a kid when that shit went down. Alot of those gangsters ended up telling on each other(the Italian ones). One of the Irish ones(he was actually German I think) went down for alot of murders. He was nicknamed the butcher, he liked to chop the people up then dispose of their bodyparts. They liked to rob coke dealers and such back in the day.

I was a kid, I just have heard stories from some older guys who were around at that time. They tried to kill Danny Greene many times; He went on the news and taunted the Italians. They finally got him with a car bomb. His arm was found a ways away from the actual car. They made a movie about this recently called "Kill the Irishman". I haven't seen it yet but the trailer is on youtube.

Google Bill Stepp from Dayton OH. I got arrested once with his nephew (who is doing time for 3 murders). Alot of criminals into drag racing, it costs alot. I just used to wash their cars as a kid.

That was mentioned on the biography show.they knew he checked his car for bombs everytime he got in so they parked a car with a bomb next to his and blew it when he was in between the two cars.
....some old lady saw the bomber and when he was caught he rated out the Cleveland mob.

William Elias 'Bill' SteppClick to enlargeHARRISON TWP., Montgomery County — New York had its "Teflon Don" and Dayton had its well-seasoned, fiery figure of similar infamy.
William Elias "Bill" Stepp was the most famous mobster, gangster and notorious hoodlum the Miami Valley has known.
He died Nov. 27 of natural causes at his Harrison Twp. home, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. Stepp was 73.
"Bill's major call to fame is that he probably lived the most charmed life of any mobster in the history of the United States," said Wes Hills, a former Dayton Daily News staff writer who covered organized crime in the Miami Valley for about 20 years.
"He succeeded in avoiding prison for his entire adult life while being the most powerful gangster in the region," Hills said Thursday, Dec. 11. "Many in law enforcement believe the reason Bill evaded prosecution was because of his long-standing cooperation with the FBI and other law enforcement."
Stepp, the son of an Appalachian lay minister in Highland County, had several siblings, including younger brother Ernest Emoliver Stepp — a member of his gang.
"As a very young boy, his father used to take Bill down to the Cincinnati riverfront docks and bet on him in fights against older adults," Hills said. "Bill was a very, very physically strong man.... He was an outstanding street fighter."
Stepp was also smart.
"Bill ... had a very special knack to ingratiate himself," Hills said. "He was a very polite person and very gracious and well spoken. He knew how to size up people and how to get close to them."
His legend was so enormous that he didn't always have to do much to impress. Many believed he was in the Mafia, Hills said.
"Stepp wasn't La Cosa Nostra — he was Appalachian. He wasn't with a large national organization at all. He was just tough as an individual. He knew his way around — drove a black Mercedes-Benz. He looked the part."
Hills, who lives in Michigan, said, "Bill was a pretty remarkable guy. Just showing how long he survived, that he died of natural causes outside of prison, demonstrates how smart he was."
In his later days, Stepp joined his wife in her Catholic faith. No relatives could be reached for comment.
Baker-Hazel-Snider Funeral Home confirmed that Stepp was cremated.

Stepp did some powerlifting with Larry Pacifico, also liked himself some anabolics, very scary dude.

He was a union boss, the west side of Cleveland has alot of Irish pubs. I owned a car dealer there for about 12 years. Alot of the old timers in the car business were involved in things. One guy saw someone underneath his car and thought someone put a bomb. It turned out to be a tracking device. They were investigating him for gambling/loansharking. He got like 72 months in the fed. He might still be there. That's alot of time for a bookmaker, who really cares? Anyways, Danny Greene wanted to take over all the action in Cleveland. They were making millions back in the day from the unions. Bid rigging, and so on, hell, the teamsters president Jackie Presser lived next door to someone I know. I'm going to see if I can find that movie about him.

The vast, vast majority of the Boss or Godfather level gangsters end up either in prison or murdered, as is the case here. It was just a matter of time before they caught Whitey and now he will rot in prison like so many before him.
This is why Carlo Gambino has to be considered one of the all time greatest gangsters.
Carlo ran one of the most powerful families in New York for years and despite all the murders and vicious beatings he himself was involved in or ordered upon others, the old man died a free man of natural causes at his own home without anyone laying a finger on him. He had also had not seen prison in almost 4 decades.
His funeral was attended by over 2,000 people including police officers, judges and politicians.
Now THAT is what being a successful gangster and real power is all about, not some bullshit "Tony Montana" hollywood story.

Meyer Lansky=greater
Hard to argue with that. The only person to halfway stop Lansky in his endeavors was Fidel Castro but then again you could make the case that Castro stopped or at least forced the hand of Jack Kennedy so that is really saying something.
