Awful… President Obama Makes Horrible Mistake Dishonoring Medal of Honor Winners (Video)

This was absolutely awful.
Barack Obama made another horrible mistake today. The president visited the 10th Mountain Division today and congratulated them on their service. Then he told the soldiers that he had given the Medal of Honor to Jared Monti who came back from Iraq alive. Jared Monti was actually killed in Iraq in 2006. How sad.
“First time I saw 10th Mountain Division, you guys were in southern Iraq. When I went back to visit Afghanistan, you guys were the first ones there. I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.“
Blackfive caught the president’s horrible gaffe.
As we all know, SSG Sal Giunta, of the 173rd Airborne, was the first living recipient (2011) of the MOH who fought in Iraq/Afganistan. SFC Jared Monti, 10th Mountain Division, was KIA in Afghanistan in 2006. He was posthumously awarded the MOH by Obama in 2009.
How does the Commander-in-Chief mix these heroes up? He put that medal around Giunta’s neck and he stood with Monti’s parents as they grieved.
This ranks up there as one of his worst gaffes ever. How awful.

Obama Flubs Speech to Troops By Claiming Dead Soldier is Alive

President Obama flubbed his remarks to troops at Fort Drum Thursday when he told the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division about the time he awarded the first Medal of Honor to someone not receiving it posthumously. The medal, he said, went to Jared Monti. The only issue is that Jared Monti died in service in Afghanistan, and did in fact receive the medal posthumously

A Clueless, Callous Commander-in-Chief
American Thinker ^ | 6-24-11 | Russ Vaughn
________________________ ________________________ _____
Obama's bumbling, bungled delivery at Fort Drum yesterday represents far more than mere confusion; it clearly demonstrates a lack of care, an inattention to detail in matters very important to his audience, an insensitivity to the families of dead warriors, a dismissive disrespect of SSGT Giunta, and a casual slap in the face to the entire United States military.
If you are going to be the Commander-in-Chief, Barry, then as this old sergeant would have instructed one of his troops after such a disgraceful performance, "Soldier up fool and get your sh*t straight. You are talking about recipients of the highest award for valor their nation can bestow upon their warriors. You have flippantly dishonored the award itself and all those to whom it has ever been awarded. You are an embarrassment to the world, your country and most importantly to the troops you supposedly command."
What a sorry, sorry performance...what it demonstrates most clearly is why gradually increasing experience and leadership responsibility are essential before anyone should even be considered for the Commander-in-Chief's position.
Among the many roles a president must perform, that of leader of our military forces, is the one most difficult to fulfill successfully because the men and women who comprise those forces are those very Americans who suffer fools least gladly. They have been there and done that and are quick to spot the fast-talking phony who has not. That is why military personnel wear campaign and accomplishment ribbons on their uniforms-those brightly colored little strips, meaningless to civilians, provide a quick read to fellow warriors as to where you've been and what you've been through. It's the equivalent of your military history displayed for your fellow warriors to see. Our current C-in-C hasn't a single, earned ribbon.
And, brother, is it ever obvious....
Barry is nothing more than a great pretender, a community organizer elevated far beyond deserved rank, completely oblivious to the gravitas of his role. I deplore the overuse of the term offended in today's society but, can there be anyone associated with the military who is not offended by this clueless, callous affront to all warriors?

President Obama Has No Idea What Year It Is

This is how President Obama signed the guestbook at Westminster Abbey earlier today, where he got a tour from the Very Reverend Dr. John Hall and laid a wreath on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.
It is a great privilege to commemorate our common heritage, and common sacrifice.
Barack Obama
24 May 2008
It was really nice until he got the date wrong by three years. Granted, 2008 was a great year for him, and we might try to live it for as long as possible, too, if we were him. Also, though, he may have had a stroke.

What’s Up With All the Presidential Gaffes, Anyway?
Pajamas Media ^ | Jun 24, 2011 | Michael Ledeen
Edited on Friday, June 24, 2011 2:30:21 PM by Sidebar Moderator. [history]
Big Media doesn’t pay much attention to them, even though Obama makes an amazing number of errors in his public statements. And I think it’s easy enough to understand why the BM largely ignores them: to report them all would totally undermine the image of the president to which a surprising number of “reporters” and pundits are wedded: that of an unusually intelligent and well educated man.
Yet someone who tells a crowd in Vienna that his “Austrian” isn’t very good, who tells Marines that he’s pleased to speak to the “Marine Corpse,” and who, just today, said he’d given the Medal of Honor to a survivor from the 10th Mountain Division, when in fact the award was given posthumously, doesn’t fit my definition of a brilliant and cultured man.
Yes, there was a Medal of Honor winner who lived to receive it, but it was a different man. The living honoree is named Giunta; the deceased hero from the 10th Mountain Division was named Monti. Both are Italian names. Did a White House speechwriter confuse the two Italians? And if so, what does that tell us about the ship under the command of President Obama? That’s worth pondering for a moment.
When you add up all the mistakes he’s made–not slips of the tongue, but real errors in statements and speeches he could read from the ubiquitous teleprompter–they make quite a number. So what? you may ask. The answer is that hundreds of people traditionally read the drafts of presidential speeches and statements. That happens for two good reasons. First, presidential utterances are instant policy. It’s hard to walk away from a public statement. Second, the myriad political appointees want their leader to look good, and they strain to ensure the accuracy of his statements. Or at least they did when I had first-hand knowledge of such things, now a few years back.
I don’t think that is happening in this administration. A friend said to me earlier today that he was really amazed at the discipline of Obama’s team, specifically in the small number of leaks compared with previous administrations–especially W’s years. It’s a good point, and that only happens when information flow is severely restricted; when only a handful of folks know what’s happening, chances to leak are reduced. (On the recent decision on force level reductions in Afghanistan, for example, most of the “inside the Beltway” rumors were dead wrong).
I suspect that drafts of presidential speeches and statements are treated the same way. I think they are only circulated among a very small number of people for comment, and those people are probably very busy, and don't have the time to check things like the precise name and history of a Medal of Honor recipient.
That would explain today's embarrassment (embarrassment to us, to the nation -- he speaks for us, after all -- since he doesn't seem to suffer embarrassment very often), but it doesn't explain things like the apology for his lack of fluency in Austrian or his lack of knowledge that we have a Marine Corps (pronounced "core"). That comes from lousy education, from lack of basic knowledge about the world. And if I'm right about the small number of administration officials who get to see his words before they're delivered in public, it tells us that they, too, aren't properly educated.
It tells us that the president and his trusted advisers are the products of the atrocious, politically correct educational system that's wrecking the country in so many ways. And itÂ’s very worrisome. It's part of the Orwellian universe that envelops many of our leaders, a universe in which they feel free to simply invent facts so long as they fit the emotional and ideological pattern that really matters to the elite.
And these people think they're the smart guys, and we're the dummies, even though we know that German is spoken in Vienna, and many of us would be mortified to make a glaring error about an American hero.
The gaffes are important. They tell us a lot about the nature of our leaders, and it's not good news. But it is news even though it's not reported as often as it should be, or with the sort of concern the gaffes deserve.
-
Let a conservative flub like this and it would be 7 pages of calling them stupid. ::)
-
So he insulted a medal of honor winner, wrote that it was 2008 when he visited the Queen, said that there are 57 states, claimed that America's energy problems could be solved by inflating tires, blamed the poor economy on ATM machines, forgot what language is spoken in Austria and refused to release his birth certificate until a reality TV show star challenged him to do so. -- Qaddafi must go!
How can anyone seriously make the argument that Barack Hussein Osama isn't a mindless fuckwad in an empty suit that gets special treatment by the leeches in the MSM because of his skin color?

FLASHBACK: AP: Stimulus includes tax break to promote private jet sales (Via Rush)

During President Obama's press conference today, he scolded Republicans for demanding tax cuts for corporate jets.
From the Associated Press in 2009:
Just a few months after lawmakers scolded auto executives for flying to Washington in private jets, Congress approved a tax break in the stimulus package to help businesses buy their own planes.
The incentive -- first used to help plane makers recover from the 2001 terror attacks -- sharply reduces the up front tax bill for companies who buy assets like business planes.

President Obama has a new term for the people he wants to tax more: jet owners.
In his news conference today, the president said: “I think it’s only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that’s doing so well to give up that tax break….I don’t think that’s real radical.”
(Courtesy of JetSuite Air)
Asking private-jet owners to give up tax breaks may not be that radical. And it probably would be supported by the vast majority of the nonjet-owning voters.
The problem is that most of the people that would be subject to the higher taxes the president wants aren’t likely to be private-jet owners. Someone earning $250,000 a year–among those scheduled for a tax increase in 2012–is unlikely to afford a jet–or even a few charter trips on a jet.
For those, like the president, who may not be well-versed in Jetonomics, here are some of the basics. The numbers come courtesy of Jay Duckson at Central Business jets:
COST OF BUYING A JET
New Citation CJ (entry level jet)–$5 million. Annual operating costs (fuel, hangar space, pilots) about $500,000.
Cheapest Used Jet–$100,000 to $500,000. Annual operating costs (hangar, pilots, mechanics, fuel) about $1 million a year.

They grow up so fast. But not that fast, Mr. President.
In a news conference Wednesday, President Barack Obama twice referred to his oldest daughter, Malia, as being 13 years old.
Not quite. She's 12.
Perhaps the president was already thinking ahead to Malia's approaching birthday: She turns 13 on July 4.

Obama's Press Conference Full of Inaccuracies (and a outright lie or two)
http://libertarian-neocon.blogspot.com/2011/06/obamas-press-conference-full-of.html ^ | libertarian neocon
Posted on June 29, 2011 5:51:21 PM EDT by libertarian neocon
Obama gave his first press conference in 3 months due to pressure from his own party to get involved in the debt ceiling issue. His performance illustrates why he doesn't like giving them too often. It really does put his mucked up view of the world out there for all to see. Here are some statements which I had issue with (the official transcript wasn't available as I'm writing so I am getting quotes from here and here).:
"We have to tackle spending in our tax code." - Talk about Orwellian logic. Taxes are revenues and expenses are spending, not the other way around. The only way his statement makes sense logically is if he assumes that all income in the United States (both individual and corporate) is the property of the United States Government so when they allow you to keep more, it's an expense. That would be extremely scary if he thought that. Maybe those people who think he is a Manchurian candidate have a point.
"I spent the last two years cutting taxes for ordinary Americans." - Actually no. He spent much of his tenure trying to ram through his healthcare reform package which seems to increase taxes on ordinary Americans (government representatives have been arguing in court that his individual mandate penalty is a tax despite what he argued with George Stephanopoulos). And I believe he only extended the Bush tax cuts under duress.
"The tax cuts I am suggesting are for millionaires and billionaires, for oil companies and hedge fund managers and corporate jet owners." - So the tax increases are only for millionaires and billionaires (I'm assuming he meant closing the tax cuts on millionaires and billionaires or it was just a transcription error, I don't remember what he said when I was watching)? How many of those does he think are out there. The cutoff for the top 1% of adjusted gross income is $380k, so if he is just looking to raise taxes on millionaires and billionaires then he is only going to raise taxes on a fraction of 1% of Americans. Somehow I doubt that as even with a large tax rate increase there would not be meaningful revenue derived from them. My guess is that the people that will be affected will include many small business owners. Last I checked, they tended not to have corporate jets.
"I've been willing to say we need to see where we can reduce the cost of healthcare spending and medicare and medicaid, not by shifting the cost to the elderly." - So I guess that means he is for "death panels"? I don't see what choices you have other than restricting use or cost shifting to users, especially after he already made cuts to finance Obamacare. Plus, doctors and hospitals are already losing money on every medicare or medicaid patient they see, so I don't think they can cut reimbursement to providers again. Well okay, they can try, but that will just further limit the number of doctors accepting patients with government funded healthcare.
"You can't reduce the deficit to levels that need to be reduced without revenue in the mix." - Why? Government spending has increased 28% since 2008. If you simply bring us back to those levels, you'll have cut the deficit pretty much in half. Also, you can increase revenue without raising tax rates. You can actually grow the economy. Why doesn't he focus on some pro-growth policies for a change?
"If we do not have revenues, that means that there are a bunch of kids out there that aren't getting college scholarships." - Won't someone please think about the children, uhh, I mean teenagers bordering on adulthood? You know you can choose what you spend money on. Somehow I'm going to bet that we can cut spending without pushing grannie over a cliff or forcing junior into the mines.
"Companies need the freedom to relocate, and they also need to follow the law." (referring to the Boeing/NLRB kerfuffle) - Is it illegal now to open a new plant in South Carolina? How?
"What defies common sense is the notion that we would be shutting down a plant because workers and management can't come to an agreement." - No, we would be shutting down a plant because the people you put on the NLRB wanted it shut down. It's not like Boeing was shutting down their Seattle plant, they were still going to use it, they just built another one in another state. Why are workers in Washington considered more important by your regulatory agencies than those in South Carolina?
"Are we really going to start paying interest to Chinese and not pay people their Social Security checks?" - Isn't that racist or something? I have to think that if Bush had said it there would be a major issue there. What percentage of the Federal debt is owned by China. China owns about 7% of the total debt. The majority is owned by domestic institutions, so not paying actually hurts us more than any other country. Plus, guess where the elderly have always been told to stick their money? Fixed income funds. You don't pay the interest, they are going to be the population most impacted. Also, if Obama is so worried about grannie, maybe he can get the Democrats to cave to the GOP on the tax increases? What is more important, punishing the rich or making sure social security checks go out? My guess is he would love the talks to break down as he believes the GOP would be blamed and he would get re-elected. That could be why he isn't trying too hard.
"We know what to do. We know that if we are educating our kids well we will be more competitive. We know if we invest in infrastructure it will pay off." - Last I checked public schools were locally funded so that is once again the equivalent of screaming "won't someone please think about the children". And how did the infrastructure spending in the stimulus bill pay off? Anyone?
"I've been here. I've been doing Afghanistan and bin Laden and the Greek crisis and — you stay here. Let's get it done." - I'm sorry, so Obama was too BUSY to negotiate over the debt limit? Is that why he is too BUSY to even submit a budget proposal? Bin Laden was almost two months ago so I don't think you can really bring that up seriously. Also, it wasn't like Obama jumped from a plane and strangled him himself. He watched it on TV at home. I guess he did have to get Afghanistan in there to placate his base in time for the elections but does it really take that long to completely ignore the recommendations of all your generals? And the Greek crisis? I guess the Greek budget is more important than our own? Also, isn't this Europe's responsibility? He is so lame.
Seriously, I get the feeling he wants a US default so he can find someone else to blame for the mess we are in. I'm sure much of the mainstream media will take the bait but he IS the President. The final responsibility will always be his. "The Republicans ate my homework" may not work.

Extra taxes on private jets won't amount to much revenue because very few people own them. And honestly, if you can afford a private jet then you shouldn't be whining about additional taxes.

By Richard Rubin and Andrew Zajac - Jun 30, 2011 12:00 AM ET .
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-06-29/jet-tax-break-cited-six-times-by-obama-would-cut-debt-by-about-3-billion.html
President Barack Obama’s proposal to end a tax break for corporate jet owners, a repeated refrain in his news conference yesterday, would achieve less than one-tenth of 1 percent of his target for reducing the federal deficit.
Changing the provision would put $3 billion into the Treasury over a decade, said two congressional aides familiar with the proposal.
Democrats want to require companies that use jets for business purposes to write off the cost over seven years, instead of five years allowed under current law, said a congressional aide and a White House aide. Airplanes used for charter or commercial flights already must be depreciated over seven years.
Obama mentioned the corporate jet break six times, criticizing Republicans’ unwillingness to include tax increases in legislation to raise the federal debt ceiling. Republicans are pressing for spending cuts in the measure, which must be passed before Aug. 2, when the Treasury Department projects the U.S. will no longer be able to meet its debt obligations.
“It would be hard for the Republicans to stand there and say that the tax break for corporate jets is sufficiently important that we’re not willing to come to the table and get a deal done,” Obama said during the White House news conference.
It would take much more than eliminating a break for corporate jets to complete the deal. The $3 billion proposal would generate 0.075 percent of the $4 trillion in deficit reduction that Obama is seeking through a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.
‘Singled Out’
“We’re obviously very upset that our industry is being singled out for what we view as political purposes,” said Pete Bunce, president of the Washington-based General Aviation Manufacturers Association. The group’s members include subsidiaries of General Electric Co. (GE), The Boeing Co. (BA), and Textron Inc. (TXT)
Bunce noted that Obama was at an Alcoa Inc. (AA) plant in Bettendorf, Iowa on June 28 emphasizing the importance of the company’s products to airplane manufacturers.
Now, Bunce said, “He’s going after a segment of the aviation industry that uses Alcoa’s products. We’re just scratching our heads.”
Obama mentioned corporate jet owners along with oil companies and hedge fund managers as those who should pay more taxes, setting them in opposition to recipients of college scholarships and medical research grants who could stand to lose benefits under Republican-sponsored budget cuts. Obama had featured provisions affecting those groups in his proposed fiscal 2012 budget; the corporate jet provision wasn’t included.
Ending Tax Breaks
Democrats are trying to probe the limits of Republicans’ insistence on avoiding tax increases, particularly after 33 Senate Republicans voted June 16 to end tax breaks for ethanol production.
“It’s only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that has done so well to give up that tax break that no other business enjoys,” Obama said. “I don’t think that’s real radical. I think the majority of Americans agree with that.”
Previous administration proposals designed to encourage business investment have benefited the aircraft industry. Under the tax law that Congress passed in December 2010, companies purchasing new equipment -- including jets -- can deduct the entire cost of equipment purchases in the first year instead of taking depreciation deductions over time.
“It seems to me that the tax policy here is all over the map,” said Gary Horowitz, an attorney at Wiley Rein LLP in McLean, Virginia.
Depreciation Schedules
Horowitz and other attorneys who advise companies on airline purchases said the proposed change would affect business decisions about when to buy aircraft. The change could cause companies to delay purchases or buy smaller planes than they would have purchased otherwise.
The difference in depreciation schedules is a longstanding feature of the tax code.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time and that’s been in the code as long as I can remember,” said Harry Ekblom, a partner at Sullivan & Worcester LLP in Boston.
Neither the five-year nor seven-year schedule reflects the actual economic life of an airplane.
“They last decades,” said Dan Hubbard, a spokesman for the National Business Aviation Association in Washington.
Shawn Vick, executive vice president of Wichita, Kansas- based Hawker Beechcraft Acquisition Co., said Obama’s proposal “just seems out of step with the stated goals” of promoting job growth and strengthening the economy.
Lengthening depreciation “could weaken our industry when we’re at a point where we’re just starting to see improvement,” Vick said.

Operation Lie-to-America Exposed by Military
Townhall.com ^ | June 30, 2011 | Bob Beauprez
________________________ ________________________ _____________________
In testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee yesterday John Allen, the Marine nominated by President Obama to lead the war effort in Afghanistan, disclosed that the White House lied when they claimed that the announced troop withdrawal plan was "in the range of options" the military leadership had given the president to consider for a troop draw-down.
During questioning by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Lt. Gen. John Allen said the plan Obama announced on June 22 to withdraw 33,000 troops before the 2012 election was "a more aggressive option than that which was presented" for consideration by the military leadership in terms of size and pace. Graham asked specifically if the plan announced was even among the options presented. Allen answered, "It was not."
As President and Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama had every right to make whatever decision he wants. But, the real question is why his staff felt it necessary to lie to the press and the American people about it?
In a conference call briefing with the media a few hours before the President's announcement on June 22, a reporter asked if the plan was "one of the options that General Petraeus gave to the President?" In the transcript of that briefing, a person identified only as a "Senior Administration Official" answered that "the President's decision was fully within the range of options that were presented to him." Maybe for emphasis, the same official returned to the question again a short while later reiterating, "So, to your first question…the President's decision was fully in the range of options the President considered."
That is not true.
General Petraeus as well as Admiral Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have both said Obama's plan was "more aggressive" than the military advisers had recommended. Lt. Gen. Allen is the third person at the top of the military leadership ladder to confirm that Obama went outside of the advice of the field commanders.
In addressing the military's preference for a more modest draw-down, Adm. Mullen noted that, "No commander ever wants to sacrifice fighting power in the middle of a war." Of course not, it compromises the safety of the remaining troops and the objectives of the mission.
So, why did Obama go against the advice of his top commanders? Petraeus, good soldier that he is, tried to put a positive perspective on it noting that, "There are broader considerations beyond those of just a military commander."
Yes, and in this case the primary consideration was transparently Obama's re-election.
But, why the need to lie? Some polls indicate that public opinion is actually on Obama's side this time, unlike many of his other policy decisions. Then why not just tell the American people the truth; that he was bucking the advice of the commanders and give his reasons?
One possible reason is obvious; no president likes to have disputes with his top military brass aired in public. But, it is also very clear that misrepresenting the facts – lying – has become standard operating procedure at this White House. There will be more as Operation Re-election is fully implemented.

The missing facts in President Obama’s news conference
By Glenn Kessler
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/the-missing-facts-in-president-obamas-news-conference/2011/06/29/AGpQMPrH_blog.html?hpid=z2
(Carolyn Kaster/AP) “The tax cuts I'm proposing we get rid of are tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, tax breaks for oil companies and hedge fund managers and corporate jet owners.”
— President Obama, June 29, 2011
A feisty President Obama met with reporters Wednesday — a sure sign that the dispute over the debt limit has reached a critical stage.
The president, clearly intending to increase pressure on the GOP, lambasted Republicans for, in his words, refusing to get rid of “tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires” before cutting aid to the less well-off. He also addressed questions on Libya.
Let’s parse some of his answers and explain what he means — and how factual he was.
“The tax cuts I'm proposing we get rid of are tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, tax breaks for oil companies and hedge fund managers and corporate jet owner. . . . Before we ask our seniors to pay more for health care, before we cut our children's education, before we sacrifice our commitment to the research and innovation that will help create more jobs in the economy, I think it's only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that has done so well to give up that tax break that no other business enjoys.”
The White House and Congress have been looking for ways to cut the deficit over 10 years by $2 trillion to $4 trillion. Republicans want to cut spending, while Democrats have sought ways to increase revenues — a nonstarter for most Republicans.
While there have been reports the administration is seeking $400 billion in additional revenue, that’s apparently not a real number. At this point, the White House might accept just about anything that demonstrates what the president calls a “balanced solution.”
In a bit of class jujitsu, the president six times mentioned eliminating a tax loophole for corporate jets, frequently pitting it against student loans or food safety. It’s a potent image, but in the context of a $4 trillion goal, it is essentially meaningless. The item is so small the White House could not even provide an estimate of the revenue that would be raised, but other estimates suggest it would amount to $3 billion over 10 years.
Meanwhile, student financial assistance, just for 2011, is about $42 billion. So the corporate jet loophole — which involves the fact that such assets can be depreciated over five years, rather than the seven for commercial jets — just is not going to raise a lot of money. It certainly wouldn’t save many student loans.
Going after hedge fund managers might raise about $15 billion over 10 years, but in a different life The Fact Checker covered Wall Street and is pretty certain those financial wizards would figure out a way to avoid this tax shift. John Carney of CNBC actually outlined how that would work.
Eliminating oil and gas preferences would raise $44 billion over 10 years, according to administration figures (table S-8), so that begins to look like real money. But the real dollars are in what the president calls “tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires” — eliminating the ability of people making more than $250,000 to itemize their deductions. That proposal would raise $290 billion over 10 years.
Wait a minute, the president said he would target “millionaires and billionaires” and yet the fine print of his proposal would affect couples making more than $250,000 (and individuals making more than $200,000)? That’s right.
“If you are a wealthy CEO or a hedge fund manager in America right now, your taxes are lower than they have ever been. They're lower than they've been since the 1950s.”
This statistic comes from the 2010 Economic Report of the President (page 154), and it’s basically right. The top tax rates have declined significantly over the past half-century. However, the Congressional Budget Office has also looked at the data and concluded that while average tax rates now are relatively low, they were somewhat lower in 1986.
“Moammar Gaddafi, who prior to Osama bin Laden was responsible for more American deaths than just about anybody on the planet, was threatening to massacre his people. . . . As a consequence, a guy who was a state sponsor of terrorist operations against the United States of America is pinned down, and the noose is tightening around him.”
Yes, Gaddafi is a bad guy, but Obama conveniently ignores the fact that until the uprising, the administration was rushing to do business with him. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton met with one of Gaddafi’s sons, Mutassim Gaddafi, in 2009, declaring, “I’m very much looking forward to building on this relationship.”
It is especially strange for Obama to rhetorically place Libya back on the list of the state sponsors of terrorism when, in fact, it was removed four years ago — after Gaddafi gave up his illicit weapons programs, renounced terrorism and paid billions of dollars to settle claims with terror victims.
“What I have done — and this is unprecedented, by the way; no administration has done this before — is I've said to each agency, Don't just look at current regulations or don't just look at future regulations, regulations that we're proposing. Let's go backwards and look at regulations that are already on the books and, if they don't make sense, let's get rid of them.”
Watch out when someone says “unprecedented.” It’s almost never true.
That’s the case here. Obama clearly has forgotten Al Gore’s “reinventing initiative,” which supposedly resulted in the elimination of 16,000 pages of federal regulations. (Frankly, we were always suspicious of that claim.) Other presidents, such as George H.W. Bush, also pledged to cut down on red tape. It’s a hardy perennial.
The president should be careful about veering into Michele Bachmann-like hyperbole.
“So are we really going to start paying interest to Chinese who hold Treasurys and we're not going to pay folks their Social Security checks?”
There’s an interesting theoretical question here. Because Social Security holds $2.7 trillion in Treasury securities, does it have a claim on getting paid even though the nation has hit the debt limit? Administration officials say the answer is complex, but as a practical matter, the answer is no. That’s because the nation would have no cash with which to pay its bills — Social Security or otherwise.
There is a difference between a government shutdown and hitting the debt ceiling. In a government shutdown, Congress has not appropriated funds for many services, except that Social Security has permanent appropriation, so even during a shutdown, payments would be made. In the case of the debt ceiling, however, Congress has appropriated the funds but Treasury has lost the ability to borrow the money to pay for services that have been contracted.
The Pinocchio Test
We realize the symbolic value of things like corporate jets, particularly when Republicans appear to be refusing to accept even a single dollar of additional revenue, but Obama is misleading when he suggests that closing this loophole would make much of a dent in the federal budget. He also should made clear that he would like to raise taxes on people making more than $250,000, rather than just “millionaires and billionaires.”
The president’s claim of an “unprecedented” effort to trim federal regulations is laughable. And it would be nice to hear Obama acknowledge for once that, until a few months ago, his administration was eager to do business with Gaddafi.

Get-to-work Obama suddenly uninterested in work. Turns down invitation to discuss debt limit.

Old and busted: Leading leaders and the leadership they display by meeting with leaders. New hotness: The worthlessness of leaders meeting leaders. Yesterday, Barack Obama insisted that leadership meant meeting with opponents and getting serious about finding compromise and making a deal:
And I’ve got to say, I’m very amused when I start hearing comments about, well, the President needs to show more leadership on this. Let me tell you something. Right after we finished dealing with the government shutdown, averting a government shutdown, I called the leaders here together. I said we’ve got to get done — get this done. I put Vice President Biden in charge of a process — that, by the way, has made real progress — but these guys have met, worked through all of these issues. I met with every single caucus for an hour to an hour and a half each — Republican senators, Democratic senators; Republican House, Democratic House. I’ve met with the leaders multiple times. At a certain point, they need to do their job.
And so, this thing, which is just not on the level, where we have meetings and discussions, and we’re working through process, and when they decide they’re not happy with the fact that at some point you’ve got to make a choice, they just all step back and say, well, you know, the President needs to get this done — they need to do their job.
Now is the time to go ahead and make the tough choices. That’s why they’re called leaders. And I’ve already shown that I’m willing to make some decisions that are very tough and will give my base of voters further reason to give me a hard time. But it’s got to be done.
And so there’s no point in procrastinating. There’s no point in putting it off. We’ve got to get this done. And if by the end of this week, we have not seen substantial progress, then I think members of Congress need to understand we are going to start having to cancel things and stay here until we get it done.
So what is Obama’s idea of leadership? Declaring himself uninterested in such mundane matters as budget negotiations:
The White House effectively turned down an invitation by Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell for President Barack Obama to visit his members on Capitol Hill on Thursday to discuss raising the debt limit.
Jay Carney told the media earlier today that McConnell’s invitation was “not a conversation worth having.” Sounds a lot like Obama’s own press conference. It also highlights a particularly Democratic approach to bipartisanship, which is usually defined as Republicans agreeing to Democratic demands, which is more or less how Obama defined the supposedly bipartisan process that produced ObamaCare and Porkulus, both of which were written by Democrats without Republican input.
Obama tried painting himself as the “adult in the room” yesterday, according to sources at the White House. Don’t you have to actually be in the room to qualify as such?
ha ha ha ha ha! ! ! !

Did Obama Forget Those Private Jet Tax Breaks He Denounced Were Created By His Own Stimulus Plan?
http://michellemalkin.com/2011/06/29/obama-stimulus-2/ ^ | Doug Powers
________________________ _________________-
Before signing the stimulus bill (aka “Porkulus”) in February of 2009, White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said that, even though the president probably hadn’t read the entire 1,079 bill cover-to-cover, he knew it was okay to sign because he had “a team of the best legislative and economic experts in the country who advised him.”
Apparently Obama didn’t check with them before letting loose on private jet tax breaks at today’s press conference.
From the Heritage Foundation:
The chief economic culprit of President Obama’s Wednesday press conference was undoubtedly “corporate jets.” He mentioned them on at least six occasions, each time offering their owners as an example of a group that should be paying more in taxes.
“I think it’s only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that has done so well,” the president stated at one point, “to give up that tax break that no other business enjoys.”
But the corporate jet tax break to which Obama was referring – called “accelerated depreciation,” and a popular Democratic foil of late – was created by his own stimulus package.
More background on that here.
“The stimulus is working as intended! Well, except for that part… and that part… and…”

The Gaffe that Time Forgot: Lincoln’s Intercontinental Railroad
John on July 2, 2011 at 10:34 am
I came across this the other day and thought it was a perfect example of the sort of silly verbal gaffe which is ignored by the media when the left makes the error, but which is elevated to national importance when a conservative does it.
Thanks to Warner Todd Huston for making this clip. Have a look:
Listen, Abraham Lincoln helped build the interstate…the intercontinental railroad in the middle of the Civil War because he understood this was going to be important.
Of course, there was no “intercontinental railroad” being built during the Civil War. We did not build a trestle across the Bering Strait or lay tracks to South America. Abraham Lincoln did support the building of a transcontinental railroad connecting the East Coast to the West Coast.
Is this a big deal? Of course not. It’s obvious the President stumbled, probably thinking of our modern interstate road system and transposed that onto the transcontinental railroad. But if Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann had said this, you can bet there would be lots of people pointing out what an embarrassing historical gaffe it was. Paul Revere’s ride and John Quincy Adams are the most recent examples of this trend. Those gaffes were national news. The intercontinental railroad was not.
People misspeak. Sometimes they say things that are wrong. The difference is, the right doesn’t capitalize on everyone of these and try to form a narrative around them about the stupidity of, say Barack Obama. The left can’t seem to help itself, especially when it comes to conservative women.

Obama's housing chief: Now's the time to buy
CNN ^

Obama's housing chief: Now's the time to buy head shot 1 By: CNN Associate Producer Gabriella Schwarz
Washington (CNN) – Housing prices have hit rock bottom and the economic climate is prime to purchase a home, said Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.
In an interview broadcast Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Donovan said declining foreclosure rates make him hopeful, adding that it is “very unlikely we see a significant further decline.”
“Housing is more affordable than it’s been in a generation,” Donovan told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. “I think it is a good time, long time to become a home owner because it’s so affordable today compared to where it’s been for generations.”
With 1.3 million homes in foreclosure, Donovan said he recognizes the frustrations of the American people but added that housing prices have largely stabilized following the “most serious crisis we’ve had in housing since the Depression.”
“Foreclosures are coming down. They’re down about 40 percent since last year,” said Donovan, who joined President Barack Obama’s Cabinet in 2009. “So, we are making progress, but rightly, the American people recognize we’re not where we need to be. We still have a ways to go.”
When asked about a push toward requiring home buyers to make a 20 percent down payment, Donovan said there should be a path for qualified individuals to purchase a home for less than 20 percent down.

The Week of Lying Dangerously
Townahll.com ^ | July 6, 2011 | Jacob Sullum
Posted on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 12:02:38 PM by Kaslin
There was a time when Barack Obama seemed more honest than Bill Clinton. While Slick Willie notoriously claimed he smoked pot but "didn't inhale," Obama candidly admitted: "When I was a kid, I inhaled frequently. That was the point."
Lately, I have not been so impressed by Obama's truth-telling tendencies. Three incidents last week vividly illustrated the president's Clintonian desire to have things both ways, even if it means insulting our intelligence.
Obama wants credit for using the American military to protect civilians and compel a regime change in Libya. But he doesn't want to admit that blowing up the government's forces and facilities counts as "hostilities," because then he would need congressional permission under the War Powers Act.
Last week Obama sent Harold Koh, the State Department's legal adviser, to explain this counterintuitive position to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, whose members were noticeably unimpressed.
"When you have an operation that goes on for months, costs billions of dollars, where the United States is providing two-thirds of the troops, even under the NATO fig leaf, where they're dropping bombs that are killing people, where you're paying your troops offshore combat pay and there are areas of prospective escalation," said Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., "I would say that's hostilities."
The following day, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit was more receptive, accepting Obama's argument that Congress is regulating interstate commerce when it forces people to buy health insurance. But a concurring opinion highlighted another striking example of presidential duplicity.
Judge Jeffrey Sutton devoted half a dozen pages to rebutting the Obama administration's argument that the insurance mandate, which requires the Internal Revenue Service to collect a "shared responsibility payment" from Americans who fail to comply, should be upheld under the federal government's taxing power, thereby avoiding dicey questions about the limits of the Commerce Clause. Sutton was too polite to note that the president himself had indignantly insisted, prior to passage of his health care law, that the assessment was "absolutely not a tax increase."
Another unacknowledged reversal occurred on Thursday night (just before the long holiday weekend), when the administration released a memo that supposedly "clarified" its position on medical marijuana. Although Obama has promised to stop "using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue," Deputy Attorney General James Cole informed federal prosecutors that "commercial operations cultivating, selling or distributing marijuana" for medical use are fair game, even when they comply with state law.
By contrast, an October 2009 memo from Cole's predecessor, David Ogden, said U.S. attorneys "should not focus federal resources" on "individuals whose actions are in clear and unambiguous compliance with existing state laws providing for the medical use of marijuana." The Ogden memo listed criteria for prosecution, such as violence, sales to minors and sales of other drugs, that make sense only when applied to medical marijuana suppliers, as opposed to the patients and caregivers who the Justice Department now claims are the only people covered by the policy of prosecutorial restraint.
Testifying before the House Judiciary Committee in May 2010, Attorney General Eric Holder confirmed that the promised forbearance applied to people "dealing in marijuana." When Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., asked him about threats to raid "legitimate businesses" that supply medical marijuana, Holder said "that would be inconsistent with ... the policy as we have set it out ... if the entity is, in fact, operating consistent with state law and ... does not have any of those factors" mentioned in the Ogden memo. This position jibed with Holder's earlier statement that "the policy is to go after those people who violate both federal and state law."
So how does the new Justice Department memo address the blatant contradiction between prosecuting state-authorized medical marijuana suppliers and not prosecuting them? It assures us the two policies are "entirely consistent." That way, Obama can get credit for tolerance and compassion without being painted as soft on drugs. After all, he did inhale.

Obama Refers To The Internet As "The Internets"
When President Bush made the same mistake during his campaign for President in 2000, he was roundly criticized as unintelligent.
"We do have to make sure that there are computers in a computer age inside classrooms and that they work and that there's internets that are actually -- there are Internet connections that actually function. And I think that those states that are going to do well and those countries that do well are the ones that are going to continue to be committed to making education a priority."

no, he meant that defense spending (which republicans typically advocate for (Which is largely overfunded btw, we do not need cold war funding when there is not a cold war threat, but that is for another thread)) or social programs might be cut.
"or" in this sense does not mean "if one then not the other". It is being used that allows for both to occur. So the statement says that defense might get cut, social programs might get cut, or both might get cut. The implication is to not be emotionally involved in one to blind you to the larger picture of the deficit problem.
Again, I don't see the problem in the format of the statement.

I don't suppose u would. Cold War defense spending? Obama vows to cut huge deficit in half (2/22/2009. Blast to the past. Where's the MSM now?

President Obama will announce Monday that he plans to cut the nation’s projected annual deficit in half by the end of his first term, a senior administration official said Saturday.
The plan will make explicit what Obama officials have been suggesting for months: Contrary to his campaign promise, Obama will allow the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans expire as scheduled at the end of 2010 instead of seeking their repeal sooner. Officials determined that seeking to raise the taxes earlier during a recession was a bad idea, advisers said.
Obama, who will speak Monday to a Fiscal Responsibility Summit at the White House, also will outline steps he is taking to eliminate what his staff calls “accounting gimmicks” used by previous administrations.
“This budget actually is going to assume that there will be a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood or manmade disaster in the United States in fiscal year 2010, and each year going forward 10 years,” the official said. “The Bush budget never assumed that.”
Under White House projections, this year’s inherited budget deficit of $1.3 trillion will be cut to $533 billion by fiscal year 2013, the end of the first term.
“So we’ll cut it at least in half,” the official said.

Obama vs. Obama
The Weekly Standard ^ | 1:21 AM, Jul 11, 2011 | STEPHEN F. HAYES
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2746722/posts
In a 75-minute meeting Sunday night, President Obama once again demanded that more than $1 trillion in tax increases be part of any deficit reduction package attached to a vote on the debt ceiling. In the session, Obama rejected a Republican proposal to seek $2.5 trillion in spending cuts and reforms, and insisted on higher taxes on businesses and wealthy individuals. Barack Obama,
It’s a curious position, given the anemic economic growth and rising unemployment. And it’s even more curious considering that Obama himself has warned about the deleterious effects of raising taxes in a struggling economy.
In August 2009, on a visit to Elkhart, Indiana to tout his stimulus plan, Obama sat down for an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, and was conveyed a simple request from Elkhart resident Scott Ferguson: “Explain how raising taxes on anyone during a deep recession is going to help with the economy.”
Obama agreed with Ferguson’s premise – raising taxes in a recession is a bad idea. “First of all, he’s right. Normally, you don’t raise taxes in a recession, which is why we haven’t and why we’ve instead cut taxes. So I guess what I’d say to Scott is – his economics are right. You don’t raise taxes in a recession. We haven’t raised taxes in a recession.”
Todd reminded Obama that he had promised to raise taxes on “some of the wealthiest” Americans.
Obama responded by reiterating his opposition to tax hikes during a recession and making an argument about timing. “We have not proposed a tax hike for the wealthy that would take effect in the middle of a recession. Even the proposals that have come out of Congress – which by the way were different from the proposals I put forward – still wouldn’t kick in until after the recession was over. So he’s absolutely right, the last thing you want to do is raise taxes in the middle of a recession because that would just suck up – take more demand out of the economy and put business further in a hole.”
When Obama warned about the consequences of raising taxes, the economy was moving away from recession—growth in the fourth quarter of 2009 was nearly 6 percent. Today, however, economic growth has slowed to less than 2 percent. Even before the horrible June jobs report, economists were warning about the “substantial” possibility of a double-dip recession. Many others agreed after the news last week. “In addition to the shock value…we need to seriously question whether a double-dip is there,” David Ader, chief treasury strategist at CRT Capital, told CNBC. “I would say it’s back on the table.”
If raising taxes in a recession would be “the last thing you want to do,” wouldn’t raising taxes in a struggling economy teetering on a double-dip be the second last thing you’d want to do?
Obama made a similar argument in December, when he signed the bipartisan tax relief agreement – a deal that maintained Bush tax rates (even for the wealthy) and included additional tax breaks for businesses. “Millions of entrepreneurs who have been waiting to invest in their businesses will receive new tax incentives to help them expand, buy new equipment or make upgrades – freeing up other money to hire new workers.”
If Obama was right and the tax breaks in that deal freed up money for job creators to hire new workers, isn’t the reverse true? Isn’t it the case that new taxes on entrepreneurs and other job creators will leave them with less money to hire new workers? And wouldn’t raising taxes on the “wealthiest” just “put business further in a hole,” as Obama believed just two years ago?
His economics were right. So why the change?

Obama Would Rather Be Talking About NFL Lockout Over Debt Crisis

'Eat our peas': Pea growers react to Obama remark
L.A. Times ^ | 7/11/11 | Michael A. Memoli
That's the reaction of the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council to the president's urging of budget negotiators to make the difficult choices necessary to reach a "grand bargain" to raise the nation's debt limit.
"It's not going to get easier, it's going to get harder. So we might as well do it now; pull off the Band-aid, eat our peas," Obama said at a White House news conference.
A spokesman for the pea council said it wasn't interpreting the remarks in a negative context.
"We take President Obama's comment on the need to 'eat our peas' as a reference to the first lady's push to get all Americans to eat a more healthy diet as part of the Let's Move campaign," Pete Klaiber, the council's director of marketing.

In Obamaland, the Past is Irrelevant
Townhall.com ^ | July 12, 2011 | Guy Benson
President Obama inhabits a very special world. It's a world in which his entire slate of previous statements, policy preferences, and actions is apparently wiped clean every time he delivers a new speech or press statement. As my friend Mary Katharine Ham likes to quip, what Obama said -- or did -- last week, last month, or last year is regarded as irrelevant, so long as he's making himself "crystal clear" today. Call it a transcendent belief in "the fierce urgency of now." I'll illustrate this phenomenon shortly.
First, a few basic takeaways from today's lengthy presidential news conference, which made little actual news. The president said a debt deal is still a ways off, and stated that although he appreciates John Boehner's "good faith efforts" to help prevent a disastrous default, Republicans must "budge" on taxes for a workable compromise to materialize. He called on both sides to make concessions, arguing that it's time to "rip off the Bandaid" and "eat our peas." He forswore short-term extensions, vowing to reject any 30-to-90 day debt ceiling patches. "This is the United States of America, and we don't manage our affairs in three-month increments," he asserted. (Except when we do, of course). He also flatly stated that an accord will be forged by the August 2nd deadline. "We're going to meet every day until we get this thing resolved," he said. Negotiations are ongoing.
Now, back to mystical Obamaland: The president talked quite a lot about the pressing and imperative need to strike a comprehensive debt deal this morning. Largely reprising his hectoring performance of June 29th, Obama called on both sides to sacrifice their respective sacred cows to facilitate an agreement post-haste. Such a visionary pragmatist. Except...this latest incarnation of Barack Obama seems to have forgotten that a previous one was demanding a "clean" debt ceiling hike as recently as six weeks ago. Out: We must hike this debt ceiling without any grand deal immediately! In: We must reach a grand deal to hike the debt ceiling immediately! No matter; new day, new paradigm. Head spin.
To oppose a debt limit increase would be patently "irresponsible," today's Barack Obama intoned -- an apparent repudiation of 2006's Barack Obama, who did precisely that. "Revenue increases" are "fair" and essential, today's Barack Obama insisted -- contradicting 2009's Barack Obama, who noted that raising taxes is "the last thing you want to do" in a sluggish economy. Head spin.
The president also spoke passionately about the necessity of making tough choices to help control the swollen national debt. He assured us he's "willing to do hard things politically" to reach an agreement. What might those "hard things" be? He won't say. It's as if today's Barack Obama has forgotten that when presented with an obvious opportunity to offer leadership on this front, February's Barack Obama introduced a budget that was universally panned for its inadequacy and utter refusal to propose any "hard things." And that April's Barack Obama discarded February's Barack Obama's budget in favor of a laughably non-specific "vision," which still hasn't been fleshed out. And that 2010's Barack Obama appointed a bipartisan debt commission to devise exactly the sort of comprehensive solution that today's Barack Obama demands -- but that February's Barack Obama completely disregarded its recommendations in crafting his (later abandoned) budget proposal. Head spin.
Applying icing to his rhetorical cake, the president wrapped up his press conference by promising that his policies will help corral deficits and debt, eventually. Without missing a beat, he closed with an astonishing brainstorm: He encouraged Americans to envision a large-scale government program to spur job growth through major infrastructure projects as a solution to high unemployment. Today's Barack Obama clearly didn't know or care that the large-scale government program to spur job growth through major infrastructure projects -- championed by 2009's Barack Obama, then mocked by June's Barack Obama -- didn't even come close to meeting the expectations and projections 2009's Barack Obama established. Head spin.
No worries, though. Today is a brand new day. Problem: Today's Barack Obama will soon become yesterday's Barack Obama -- whose stated policies and preferences are liable to slide into obsolescence as soon as tomorrow's Barack Obama opens his mouth. What comes next is anyone's guess.
This cycle of presidential body-snatching may be a totally incoherent approach to governance, but it sure is exciting.

Fresh doubt cast on Obama's health care story
By: Byron York | Chief Political Correspondent Follow Him @ ByronYork | 07/11/11 8:05 PM
Then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) addresses a rally in the gymnasium of Concord High School January 4, 2008 in Concord before the 2008 New Hampshire primary, where the Democratic presidential hopeful made this remark examined by Examiner columnist Byron York: "She was in her hospital room looking at insurance forms because the insurance company said that maybe she had a pre-existing condition and maybe they wouldn't have to reimburse her for her medical bills."During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama often discussed his mother's struggle with cancer. Ann Dunham spent the months before her death in 1995, Obama said, fighting with insurance companies that sought to deny her the coverage she needed to pay for treatment.
"I remember in the last month of her life, she wasn't thinking about how to get well, she wasn't thinking about coming to terms with her own mortality, she was thinking about whether or not insurance was going to cover the medical bills and whether our family would be bankrupt as a consequence," Obama said in September 2007.
"She was in her hospital room looking at insurance forms because the insurance company said that maybe she had a pre-existing condition and maybe they wouldn't have to reimburse her for her medical bills," Obama added in January 2008.
"The insurance companies were saying, 'Maybe there's a pre-existing condition and we don't have to pay your medical bills,' " Obama said in a debate with Republican opponent Sen. John McCain in October 2008.
It was a simple and powerful story, one Obama would tell many more times as president during the national health care debate. But now we're learning the real story of Ann Dunham's health coverage is not quite what her son made it out to be.
The news is in "A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother," a generally admiring new biography written by former New York Times reporter Janny Scott. According to the book, Ann Dunham, an anthropologist who spent most of her working life in Indonesia, moved from Jakarta to New York in 1992 to work for a nonprofit called Women's World Banking, which encouraged micro-lending in Third World countries. Unhappy in New York, in 1994 Dunham took a job with an American company called Development Alternatives, which had a contract with the Indonesian State Ministry for the Role of Women. Dunham returned to Jakarta to work, and Scott reports the job provided Dunham with health insurance, a housing allowance, and a car.
At the time she took the job, Dunham was increasingly worried about her health; she was suffering from intense abdominal pains. In November 1994, Dunham went to an Indonesian doctor who diagnosed appendicitis. As Dunham debated whether to leave the country for surgery, she called her boss at Development Alternatives. "You've got health insurance, that's taken care of," the boss told her. "We can cover the airfare."
Dunham decided to stay in Jakarta, where she underwent an appendectomy. But the pain did not go away, and Dunham feared, correctly, that she was terribly ill. In January 1995 she left Indonesia to go home to Honolulu, where she was diagnosed with advanced uterine and ovarian cancer. She began a regime of surgery and chemotherapy.
That is the time during which Obama says his mother battled insurance companies to cover her illness. But Scott, who had access to Dunham's correspondence from the time, reveals that Dunham unquestionably had health coverage. "Ann's compensation for her job in Jakarta had included health insurance, which covered most of the costs of her medical treatment," Scott writes. "Once she was back in Hawaii, the hospital billed her insurance company directly, leaving Ann to pay only the deductible and any uncovered expenses, which, she said, came to several hundred dollars a month."
Scott writes that Dunham, who wanted to be compensated for those costs as well as for her living expenses, "filed a separate claim under her employer's disability insurance policy." It was that claim, with the insurance company CIGNA, that was denied in August 1995 because, CIGNA investigators said, Dunham's condition was known before she was covered by the policy.
Dunham protested the decision and, Scott writes, "informed CIGNA that she was turning over the case to 'my son and attorney, Barack Obama.' " CIGNA did not budge.
In September 1995, Dunham traveled to New York for an evaluation at the renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Returning to Hawaii, she began a new course of treatment. She died in November.
A dozen years later, her son turned her ordeal into a campaign pitch for national health care. But the story Obama told, Scott writes, was "abbreviated" -- the abbreviation was to leave out the fact that Ann Dunham had health insurance that paid for her treatment. "Though he often suggested that she was denied health coverage because of a pre-existing condition," Scott writes, "it appears from her correspondence that she was only denied disability coverage."
That's a different story altogether. One the president never told.

Chief Actuary Says Obama Could Pay Social Security Checks During a Shutdown
GatewayPundit ^ | 7/13/11 | Jim Hoft
FULL TITLE: Confirmed: Chief Actuary Says Obama Could Pay Social Security Checks During a Shutdown (Obama Caught Playing Politics)
Yesterday Barack Obama told CBS that there simply may not be enough money in the coffers next month to pay Social Security payments.
But Obama was just playing games with seniors.
Congressman Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) pointed out that the decision to withhold checks “would be a political one” made by the President.
During this morning’s Budget Committee meeting, Congressman Huelskamp asked Stephen Goss, Chief Actuary for the Social Security Administration, to explain how the Obama administration could withhold Social Security checks to American seniors.
The question was prompted by a statement by President Obama that he could not guarantee that Social Security checks would be mailed August 3, 2011, if Congress fails to increase the debt limit.
Yesterday, Congressman Huelskamp issued a statement noting that it is irresponsible for the President to use seniors on Social Security as pawns to leverage his point in the debt limit negotiations.
Mr. Goss told Congressman Huelskamp: “The responsibility of the Social Security Administration per se, my boss, Commissioner Astrue, is to in fact determine how much in the way of benefit payments people are supposed to receive.
We send that information actually over to the Department of the Treasury. They are the ones who actually send out the payments, whether it’s electronic funds, transfers, or check.”

Documents Show Obama White House Attacked, Excluded Fox News Channel
Judicial Watch ^ | July 14, 2011
White House Emails Detail anti Fox Bias inside Obama White House: “I’m putting some dead fish in the fox cubby -- just cause” “[FNC Anchor] Bret Baier…is a lunatic”
Washington, DC -- July 14, 2011
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has uncovered documents from the Obama Department of Treasury showing that the Obama administration, contrary to its repeated denials, attempted to exclude the Fox News Channel (FNC) from a round of interviews with Treasury’s “Executive Pay Czar” Kenneth Feinberg. The documents, which include email exchanges within the Department of the Treasury and between Treasury and White House staff, also provide colorful evidence of an anti-Fox News bias within the Obama White House.
The documents, obtained last week by Judicial Watch pursuant to an October, 28, 2009, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, concern a series of interviews with Feinberg, who served as the Special Master for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) Executive Compensation, on October 22, 2009, organized by the Treasury Department. According to press reports, the Fox News Channel was specifically excluded from joining the pool of reporters which precipitated a backlash among the networks and a reversal by the Obama Treasury Department.
According to The New York Times: “Fox’s television news competitors refused to go along with a Treasury Department effort on Thursday [October 22, 2009] to exclude Fox from a round of interviews with the executive-pay czar Kenneth R. Feinberg that was to be conducted with a ‘pool’ camera crew…”. Fox News Channel’s James Rosen reported this backlash forced the Obama administration to reconsider its position on the matter: “The Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV news network consulted and decided that none of them would interview Feinberg unless Fox was included, and the administration relented…,” reported Rosen. Ultimately, after other media representatives objected, Fox News Channel was allowed to participate in the interviews.
The Treasury Department’s official response, as detailed in back-and-forth emails uncovered by Judicial Watch, included a clear denial of any such plot to exclude Fox News from the interviews: “There was no plot to exclude Fox News, and they had the same interview that their competitors did. Much ado about absolutely nothing.” Moreover, in an October 23, 2009 email to one reporter (name redacted), Jake Siewart, Counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, repeated the denial that there was an effort to exclude Fox News Channel: “Call me today on your Fox-Treasury report,” Siewart wrote. “Not true that there was an ‘effort to exclude’ Fox.”
However, despite this public position, internal Obama administration emails obtained by Judicial Watch provide evidence that FNC was specifically singled out for exclusion. According to one October 22, 2009, email exchange between Dag Vega, Director of Broadcast Media on the White House staff, to Jenni LeCompte, then-Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs in the Treasury Department, Vega informs LeCompte that “…we’d prefer if you skip Fox please.”
Regarding general anti-FNC bias within the Obama White House in an October 23, 2009, email exchange between Jennifer Psaki, Deputy White House Communications Director and LeCompte, Psaki writes, “I am putting some dead fish in the fox cubby – just cause”. In an email on the night of October 22, 2009, commenting on a report by Fox News Channel anchor Bret Baier noting the exclusion of the network from the pool, Psaki writes to Compte and fellow White House colleagues, “…brett baier just did a stupid piece on it -- but he is a lunatic”.
Deputy White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest bluntly described the White House’s position on Fox News Channel in an October 23, 2009, email to LeCompte: “We’ve demonstrated our willingness and ability to exclude Fox News from significant interviews…”
The Treasury Department blacked out a key email regarding its refusal to make available Treasury Secretary Geithner for an interview on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.
“The Obama administration seems to have lied about its attempt to exclude Fox News Channel from access to an interview with the ‘pay czar.’ These documents show there is s a pervasive anti-Fox bias in the Obama White House,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The juvenile Mafioso-talk in these emails has no place in any White House. For the Obama administration to purposely exclude a major news organization from access to information has troubling First Amendment implications.”

In White House E-Mails, Staffers Wrote of Delivering Dead Fish to Fox News, Blacklisting Network
Thursday, July 14, 2011 | Kristinn
In e-mails obtained by Judicial Watch, Obama White House staffers wrote of their contempt for Fox News, including efforts to blacklist the network from coverage.
Deputy White House Communications Director Jennifer Psaki sent an e-mail on October 23, 2009, to Jenni LeCompte, then-Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at Treasury that said, "“I am putting some dead fish in the fox cubby – just cause”.
In another e-mail on October 22, 2009, Psaki calls Fox News anchor Bret Baier a "lunatic."
“…brett baier just did a stupid piece on it -- but he is a lunatic”.
Other e-mails show the White House lied when it denied trying bar Fox News from a round of media interviews with Kenneth Feinberg, Treasury's 'executive pay czar.'
One e-mail from the White House to LeCompte at Treasury is explicit in their desire to blacklist Fox: “…we’d prefer if you skip Fox please,” wrote Dan Vega, Director of Broadcast Media.

Surprise! Obama can't remember his birthday
WND ^ | July 16, 2011 | Joe Kovacs
President Obama just can't seem to keep track of birthdays, especially his own.
After spending more than two years in office deflecting questions surrounding his birth, the commander in chief said on Friday that he'd be turning 50 in a week.
"You know, I'm going to be turning 50 in a week, so I'm starting to think a little bit more about Medicare eligibility," Obama said at a news conference concerning the U.S. debt.

Carney: Economy Has "Vastly Improved" Since Obama Was Sworn In
Real Clear Politics ^
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney: "Well, two things remain uncontestably true. The economy is vastly improved from what it was when Barack Obama was sworn into office as president. We were in economic free-fall. There were predictions that we were headed to the second Great Depression. We were losing up to, over 700,000 jobs a month, we were contracting at greater than 6 percent -- our economy was. So, the economy has improved. It has not improved enough. "Well, there's no question that we face headwinds, and the president has been very direct about that. And we need to do everything we can, across the front, to ensure we're doing what we can to spur growth, spur job creation."

On Thursday, White House press secretary Jay Carney asserted that the end of NASA’s space program in its current form will and Obama’s “new strategy” means mean more, not less, jobs, exploration and innovation.
“This new strategy means more jobs for the country more American astronauts in space over the next decade and more investments in innovation relative to the prior administration’s plan,” Carney said in response to a question about potential job losses in Florida, Texas and Louisiana.

Obama and Debt Crisis like Lincoln and Emancipation Proclamation?
FOXNEWS ^ | July 22, 2011 | Jennifer Suzara
Posted on July 23, 2011 7:23:50 AM EDT by Son House
In recent weeks, there have been many metaphors and analogies from President Obama in describing the negotiations on the debt and the deficit. He's used terms like "shared sacrifice," "eat our peas," and putting aside "our sacred cows" in the name coming to an agreement.
Speaking at the University of Maryland, Mr. Obama said Lincoln had his convictions, but he was constantly making concessions and compromises. "[T]he great emancipator was making a compromise in the Emancipation Proclamation because he thought it was necessary in terms of advancing the goals of preserving the Union and winning the war," Obama said.
The proclamation signed by Lincoln in 1863 did not abolish slavery all together. It applied only to states that had rebelled against the Union, leaving slavery legal in the border states during the Civil War. Total abolition of slavery was finalized by the 13th amendment which took effect 3 years later.
Obama brought up the proclamation, which he says is hanging in the Oval Office, after being asked a question by Mary Wagner, a school teacher in the audience. Wagner explained that she is teaching her students about the two-party governmental system and the importance of compromise. But Wagner asked "[A]re things changing?...Do we not use compromise anymore?"
The president said that Wagner was correct to question it because culture is now pushing against compromise. But "if Abraham Lincoln could make some compromises as part of governance," Obama said, "[T]hen surely we can make some compromises when it comes to handling our budget."
But he explained that if everybody is demonizing the other side and becoming more extremist and untrustworthy, it's not going to be possible. "In that kind of atmosphere, it's pretty hard to compromise," Obama said. "So we have to wind back from that kind of political culture."

The president devoted his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to the impasse and urged Republicans to make a deal. Clearly frustrated by the lack of progress, Mr Obama said: 'I've been left at the altar now a couple of times.'
Earlier, before the meeting he said: 'We can come together for the good of the country and reach a compromise. 'We can strengthen our economy and leave for our children a more secure future.

Barack Obama: “Not Spending Money Is Mortgaging America’s Future”
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 7/24/11 | Lady Liberty
Posted on July 24, 2011 4:11:46 PM EDT by Nachum
And more of that new math.
“Not Spending Money Is Mortgaging America’s Future.”
CNS News reported -
Deficits are not the only thing that could mortgage America’s future, President Barack Obama told Democratic donors in New York on Thursday. He stressed it would be mortgaging the country’s future if government did not spend money on certain areas.“There’s more than one way to mortgage America’s future,” Obama said at The Town Hall in New York. “We mortgage that future if we don’t get a handle on our deficit and debt, but we also mortgage it if we’re not investing in those things that will assure the promise of the American Dream for the next generation.”
Obama, in the speech, broadly defined the government expenditures needed to ensure prosperity for the next generation that should not be sacrificed for deficit and debt reduction.
Wait a minute, I thought a mortgage was borrowing. Now not borrowing is mortgaging? And they wonder why we want to see his college transcripts.
In addition, when comparing the Republican budget proposal to his proposal, the President said this:
“It’s a vision of a small America, of a shrunken America, where those of us who are lucky do great and don’t have to give anything back, and we can pull up the ladder behind us,” Obama said of the GOP plan at an earlier DNC fundraiser that same day at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

Obama: FDR Was 'Fiscally Conservative'
CNSNews ^
Posted on July 25, 2011 6:41:03 AM EDT by Sub-Driver
Obama: FDR Was 'Fiscally Conservative' Monday, July 25, 2011 By Fred Lucas
College Park, Md. (CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama said that Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) – the president best known for establishing a welfare and regulatory state in America – was “fiscally conservative,” in response to a question about how to keep the economy going.
Obama was referring to spending-cut measures Roosevelt took in the middle of the New Deal that lasted from 1933 to 1940.
“FDR comes in, he tries all these things with the New Deal; but FDR, contrary to myth, was pretty fiscally conservative,” the president said Friday during a town hall meeting on the campus of the University of Maryland.
“And so after the initial efforts of the New Deal and it looked like the economy was growing again, FDR then presented a very severe austerity budget,” Obama continued. “And suddenly, in 1937, the economy started going down again. And, ultimately, what really pulled America out of the Great Depression was World War II.”
Obama used this to illustrate why the political leaders should tread carefully in cutting the deficit.
“Some have said, I think rightly, that we’ve got to be careful that any efforts we have to reduce the deficit don't hamper economic recovery, because the worst thing we can do for the deficit is continue to have really bad growth or another recession,” Obama said.

CURL: Is Obama a pathological liar?
The Washington Times
7:17 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2011
"Mendacity is a system that we live in."
- Brick, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"
In the weird world that is Washington, men and women say things daily, hourly, even minutely, that they know deep down are simply not true. Inside the Beltway, we all call those utterances "rhetoric."
But across the rest of the country, plain ol' folk call 'em lies. Bald-faced (even bold-faced) lies. Those folks have a tried-and-true way of determining a lie: If you know what you're saying is patently false, then it's a lie. Simple.
And lately, the president has been lying so much that his pants could burst into flames at any moment.
His late-evening news conference Friday was a tour de force of flat-out, unadulterated mendacity — and we've gotten a first-hand insider's view of the president's long list of lies.
"I wanted to give you an update on the current situation around the debt ceiling," Mr. Obama said at 6:06 p.m. OK, that wasn't a lie — but just about everything he said after it was, and he knows it.
"I just got a call about a half-hour ago from Speaker [John A.] Boehner, who indicated that he was going to be walking away from the negotiations," he said.
Not so: "The White House made offers during the negotiations," said our insider, a person intimately involved in the negotiations, "and then backtracked on those offers after they got heat from Democrats on Capitol Hill. The White House, and its steadfast refusal to follow through on its rhetoric in terms of cutting spending and addressing entitlements, is the real reason that debt talks broke down."
Mr. Boehner was more blunt in his own news conference: "The discussions we've had with the White House have broken down for two reasons. First, they insisted on raising taxes. ... Secondly, they refused to get serious about cutting spending and making the tough choices that are facing our country on entitlement reform."
But back to the lying liar and the lies he told Friday. "You had a bipartisan group of senators, including Republicans who are in leadership in the Senate, calling for what effectively was about $2 trillion above the Republican baseline that theyve been working off of. What we said was give us $1.2 trillion in additional revenues," Mr. Obama said.
That, too, was a lie. "The White House had already agreed to a lower revenue number — to be generated through economic growth and a more efficient tax code — and then it tried to change the terms of the deal after taking heat from Democrats on Capitol Hill," our insider said.
The negotiations just before breakdown called for $800 billion in new "revenues" (henceforth, we'll call those "taxes"), but after the supposedly bipartisan plan came out — and bowing to the powerful liberal bloc on Capitol Hill — Mr. Obama demanded another $400 billion in new taxes: a 50 percent increase.
Mr. Boehner was blunt: "The White House moved the goalpost. There was an agreement, some additional revenues, until yesterday, when the president demanded $400 billion more, which was going to be nothing more than a tax increase on the American people."
But Mr. Obama, with a straight face, continued. "We then offered an additional $650 billion in cuts to entitlement programs — Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security."
The truth: "Actually, the White House was walking back its commitments on entitlement reforms, too. They kept saying they wanted to 'go big.' But their actions never matched their rhetoric," the insider said.
Now, Mr. Boehner and the real leaders in Congress have taken back the process. He'll write the bill and pass it along to the president, with this directive, which he reportedly said to Mr. Obama's face in a short White House meeting Saturday: "Congress writes the laws and you get to decide what you want to sign."
Watching the one-third-of-a-term-senator-turned-president negotiate brings to mind a child spinning yarns about just how the living room lamp got broken. Now, though, the grown-ups are in charge; the kids have been put to bed. Ten days ago, the president warned the speaker: "Dont call my bluff."
Well, Mr. Boehner has. He's holding all the cards — and he's not bluffing.

Obama's People Admit He Was Lying About Default
By Matthew Vadum on 7.27.11 @ 3:15AM
President Obama has no intention of allowing the U.S. government to default on its financial obligations regardless of whether the government's borrowing limit is raised, Charlie Gasparino of Fox Business reports.
This means that the president has been bargaining in bad faith with congressional leaders by raising the specter of a default, knowing full well he won't allow it to happen. This is another way of putting it: the president has been lying to the nation.
As Gasparino writes
While officials from the Obama Administration raised their rhetoric over the weekend about the possibility of a debt default if the debt ceiling isn't raised, they privately have been telling top executives at major U.S. banks that such an event won't happen, FOX Business has learned.
In a series of phone calls, administration officials have told bankers that the administration will not allow a default to happen even if the debt cap isn't raised by the August 2 date Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner says the government will run out of money to pay all its bills, including obligations to bond holders. Geithner made the rounds on the Sunday talk shows saying a default is imminent if the debt ceiling isn't raised, and President Obama issued a similar warning during a Friday press conference after budget negotiations with House Republicans broke down.
It's business as usual for Obama. The truth is just an obstacle on the road to socialist utopia.
Rules for Radicals author Saul Alinsky would be so proud.

Speaking at a fundraiser Monday night in Washington, President Barack Obama poked a bit of fun at himself, joking about what a win in next year’s election will mean for his head:
“f you’re willing to sign up and get involved, knowing that we’re in for a tough fight, I promise you the American people are going to come through for us and I’m going to have four more years after this next year and a half, which means that I’m going to be really gray by the time I’m done.”

President Barack Obama leaves the White House on Monday for a three-day bus trip, talking job creation at small towns across the Midwest in hopes of distancing himself from the "partisan brinksmanship" he says has poisoned the economy.
The trip isn't likely to be without bumps. Polls find that the partisan feud over raising the debt ceiling, the stock market gyrations and a stubborn unemployment rate have left Americans more pessimistic about the economy and their future than at any time this year. Republicans already have accused Obama of mixing policy with politics by barnstorming in the battleground region - at taxpayer expense.
But White House advisers said it was a chance for the president - who spent most of last month trapped in Washington with lawmakers blaming each other for the debt impasse - to hit the reset button and connect with ordinary Americans in a bus that could roll into small towns, rather than Air Force One.
"Democrats, independents and Republicans expect to see their president of the United States outside of Washington, D.C., out from behind the podium, spending time talking to the American people in their communities," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.
Obama appears to be trying out a campaign theme by blaming Congress - without a direction mention of Republicans - for the bitterness that led to an eleventh-hour debt limit agreement, and Earnest said the president was expecting to hear more anger on the road.
"The president does anticipate that he'll detect a little frustration about the dysfunction in Congress, and the strident position of some in Congress to put their partisan affiliation ahead of the country," he said.

In Weekly Address Obama Praises Plant Where‘Green’ Jobs at $2 Million Per Job
Gateway Pundit ^ | August 13,2011 | Jim Hoft
Posted on August 13, 2011 2:13:09 PM EDT by Hojczyk
President Barack Obama toured a vehicle battery plant in Michigan on Thursday. During his visit Obama touted his administration’s focus on green technology and jobs. Thanks to the Obama-Pelosi failed stimulus bill this same corporation has created “green” jobs at a cost of about $2 million in federal subsidies per job. This is Barack Obama’s definition of success.
Today in his Weekly Address, Barack Obama praised this same battery plant as the way forward. From this week’s address:
On Thursday, I visited a new, high-tech factory in Michigan where workers are helping America lead the way in a growing clean energy industry.
They were proud of their work, and they should be. They’re not just showing us a path out of the worst recession in generations – they’re proving that this is still a country where we make things; where new ideas take root and grow; where the best universities, most creative entrepreneurs, and most dynamic businesses in the world call home. They’re proving that even in difficult times, there’s not a country on Earth that wouldn’t trade places with us.
That doesn’t mean we don’t face some very tough economic challenges. Many Americans are hurting badly right now. Many have been unemployed for too long. Putting these men and women back to work, and growing wages for everyone, has got to be our top priority.
But lately, the response from Washington has been partisanship and gridlock that’s only undermined public confidence and hindered our efforts to grow the economy.
And, of course, Obama blamed political bickering for the current economic crisis and downgrade.
Don’t expect the democrat-media complex to report on this. They’re too focused on the political bickering.
Kenyanomics.

Obama Compares Himself to Martin Luther King
by KEITH KOFFLER on AUGUST 13, 2011, 1:58 PM
At least it wasn’t Jesus.
At a small, exclusive New York City fundraiser Thursday night featuring the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, Obama compared himself and his agenda to that of Martin Luther King Jr.
And now that King has his own memorial on the Mall I think that we forget when he was alive there was nobody who was more vilified, nobody who was more controversial, nobody who was more despairing at times. There was a decade that followed the great successes of Birmingham and Selma in which he was just struggling, fighting the good fight, and scorned, and many folks angry. But what he understood, what kept him going, was that the arc of moral universe is long but it bends towards justice. But it doesn’t bend on its own. It bends because all of us are putting our hand on the arc and we are bending it in that direction. And it takes time. And it’s hard work. And there are frustrations.
Mr. Obama, I knew Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King was a friend of mine . . .

Obama's cheap 'shot': These men died with honor, but the president dishonors their memories
NY Post ^ | August 14, 2011 | JOHN HAYWARD

Thirty American troops came home to Dover Air Force Base last week.
They died when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan by Taliban with rocket-propelled grenades. Many were members of SEAL Team Six, the fabled special operations unit that flew stealth choppers into Pakistan after Osama bin Laden, putting the old monster down in a pile of his porno tapes.
Nineteen of the 30 families asked for no media coverage of the ceremony at Dover — that request for privacy was, of course, honored.
By everyone, that is, except Barack Obama.
He slipped in a personal photographer, who snapped a dramatic photo of the president saluting in silhouette.
This was not an item for the private Obama scrapbook, to go beside a copy of the Standard & Poor’s letter downgrading America’s credit rating. The White House pushed it to every major media outlet, and made it “Photo of the Day” on its official website

Fiery Exchange At Obama Town Hall
Greta Van Susteren ^ | 8/15/11 | Ed Henry
Posted on August 15, 2011 10:08:22 PM EDT by Nachum
DECORAH, Iowa – President Obama got into a heated back and forth with a Tea Party activist who demanded to know at the end of a town hall meeting here whether or not Vice President Biden had called members of the Tea Party “terrorists” during the debt ceiling debate.
In public, Obama did not directly answer the question from Tea Party activist Ryan Rhodes about Biden. But Obama fired back that he knows better than anyone what it’s like to be slammed for his political views and was not about to accept a lecture on the topic.
“As someone who’s been called a socialist, not born here, taking away freedoms for providing health care, I’m all for lowering the rhetoric,” Obama said.
Obama did say he would discuss the matter further with Rhodes, founder of the Iowa Tea Party, after the event. And the duo was spotted in an animated conversation a few moments later.
In an interview later with Fox News, Rhodes claimed that the President insisted that Biden had not made the original comment.
“He just denied it, he said the Vice President didn’t make any of those assertions,” said Rhodes. “He doesn’t want to even admit what was on TV nationally — all over the place — then how can you have a conversation?”
Rhodes added that Obama brushed him aside. “Then he said ‘we can’t have a conversation because you’re saying I called you a terrorist,’” recalled Rhodes. “The fact is it demonstrates the deep divide that he is unwilling to negotiate without going after the other side, the whole day was about going after republicans and talking about how unreasonable they are.”
The private conversation between Rhodes and Obama was partially picked up by a TV camera but the audio was a little tough to make out. But Obama in general did seem to be saying the incident with Biden was misconstrued and that if Rhodes wanted to insist that the word “terrorist” was used then they were never going to see eye to eye.
The incident stems from a private meeting Biden attended at the height of the debt ceiling debate with House Democrats who were angry that Republicans were not meeting the President halfway. One lawmakers, Rep. Mike Doyle D-Pa.), went so far as to say that Republicans affiliated with the Tea Party had behaved like “terrorists” during the debate.
Some Democrats familiar with the meeting said at the time that Biden had appeared to agree with the sentiment expressed by Doyle and others as a way of moving the conversation along and convincing Democrats to support the final compromise. But Biden himself denied to CBS News that he had uttered the word “terrorist” in the meeting in the context of the Tea Party.
Here in Iowa, some people in the Iowa crowd here seemed to be unhappy with Rhodes. One woman was overheard confronting him by saying, “That was extraordinarily rude” to the President.
A second woman who did not want to be identified by name said she felt the exchange was “over the top aggressive.”
But Rhodes was not backing down. “I said my piece,” he said.
Lmao.

Obama: Individual Health Insurance Mandate ‘Should Not Be Controversial’
Cybercast News Service ^ | 8/15/11 | Nicholas Ballasy

On his bus tour, President Barack Obama said the federal health care law’s individual mandate, which requires every American to purchase health insurance, “should not be controversial.” To date, 26 states have sued the federal government, arguing that the individual mandate is unconstitutional because the U.S. Constitution does not grant Congress the power to require Americans to purchase a good or service. “Here’s the problem – if an insurance company has to take you, has to insure you, even if you’re sick but you don’t have an individual mandate, then what would everybody do?

Obama: I have it tougher than Abe Lincoln
dailycaller.com ^ | Neil Munro
Posted on August 16, 2011 8:35:40 PM EDT by Justaham
President Barack Obama said yesterday in Decorah, Iowa, that he absorbs more political criticism than Abraham Lincoln, the assassinated 16th U.S. president, attracted from his Civil War critics.
The comment came during a question-and-answer session where one invited audience member asked Obama how he deals with his congressional critics in the GOP. “The Congress doesn’t seem to be a good partner. You said so yourself, they’re more interested in seeing you lose than [seeing] the country win,” the questioner lamented.
“Democracy is always a messy business in a big country like this,” Obama responded. “When you listen to what the federalists said about the anti-federalists … those guys were tough. Lincoln, they used to talk about him almost as bad as they talk about me.”
The comparison “is hysterical … that is really laughable in many respects,” said Alvin Felzenberg, the author of a book on American presidents. “You couldn’t print things today they said about Lincoln.” Felzenberg teaches at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and was the chief spokesman for the 9/11 Commission.
Criticism of Lincoln in his day “was even more vitriolic than what you see about Obama,” said Eric Foner, a Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential historian at Columbia University. “Obama is a guy who has a thin skin and does not take criticism well.” Foner’s Pulitzer-winning volume was titled ”The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery.”

Obama proposes further stimulus to spur economy
Telegraph ^ | 17 Aug 2011 | Richard Blackden
President Barack Obama intends to ask Congress to back a fresh stimulus plan for the economy in a plan that will create a new storm of controversy in Washington.
The White House could seek billions of dollars in new spending through a mix of measures designed to reignite the faltering recovery.
"There are some immediate things we can do around infrastructure, tax policy that would make a difference in terms of people hiring right now," President Obama said in a television interview.

Obama: ‘The Economy’s Gotten Better Than It Was When I First Took Office’–Really?
The Blaze ^ | August 17, 2011 | Christopher Santarelli
Posted on August 17, 2011 7:49:18 PM EDT by Free ThinkerNY
Quick question: Is the economy in better shape than it was in 2009? President Obama has an answer. According to him, “yes.”
Obama made the statement Wednesday during an Illinois town hall, telling the crowd that the economy has gotten better since he took office (and citing private-sector jobs):
We thought we’d take a look at that claim and the economy over the last two-and-a-half years. And here’s what we found:
The president advocated a $787 billion stimulus bill that would keep unemployment below 8 percent. Since then, our economy has lost more than 1.3 million jobs and the unemployment rate has averaged over 9 percent.
In March, the average price for a gallon of gas doubled since President Obama took office. It Averaged $3.58 then. It averages $3.59 today.

White House Unsure Whether it Sent Trade Deals to Congress
Commentary Magazine ^ | August 16, 2011 | Alana Goodman
Enacting three new free trade deals is one of the few job-creating proposals President Obama has put forward so far, and he’s been chastising congress for not passing the agreements during almost every stop on his Midwest jobs tour. But there are still many people who don’t realize the president hasn’t actually sent the agreements to congress to be passed. Including, apparently, Obama’s own press secretary Josh Earnest.
Here’s an exchange between Earnest and a reporter last week, via the briefing posted on the White House website:
Q: I already tweeted that you sound like Jay and Robert with your comment about not making economic predictions. (Laughter.) I just — why does the White House keep telling Congress to move on the free trade bills if they haven’t even — if you guys haven’t even sent them over?
MR. EARNEST: I don’t — have we not sent them over?
Q: No.
MR. EARNEST: Well, I know that there have been — (laughter) —
Q: Gotcha.
MR. EARNEST: There you go. (Laughter.) I withdraw my “nice” comment. (Laughter.)
Funny! Though maybe not so much for the members of Congress Obama has been attacking for not passing the deals “right now.” Today, during his speech in Iowa, Obama called on the public to “send a message” to congress, demanding that they “get into the game” and move forward on proposals like the trade agreements. But it’s Obama who’s been sitting on the sidelines throughout the debate, and has yet to offer a serious jobs plan.
During today’s Iowa speech, Obama’s “new” proposals were just as vague as some of his previous ones: he called for expanding broadband internet access, creating a “rural council” to come up with job ideas, increasing loans to small businesses, and finding ways to recruit doctors and nurses for local hospitals. Not only were there no details on how he would move forward on these proposals, they’re also not extensive enough to make a dent in solving the jobs crisis.

Obama’s whopper of a claim on tax cuts ("Biggest middle-class tax cut in history" claim)
Washington Post ^ | 9/7/2011 | Glenn Kessler
Posted on September 7, 2011 11:11:43 AM EDT by Qbert
The president’s Labor Day speech in Detroit featured an assertion that contained a number of warning signs that it might be an errant fact: “biggest middle-class tax cut in history.”
First of all, anytime a politician claims he or she has done something historic, watch your pockets. That’s usually a dubious claim.
[Snip]
Clearly the president wants to demonstrate he’s a tax-cutter. And certainly White House officials have been frustrated that the $116 billion Making Work Pay tax cut was largely unnoticed by Americans.
We decided to put the president’s claim to the test.
The Facts
We took an informal survey in our office and asked people what they thought the president’s statement meant. Everyone agreed he was claiming the biggest tax cut in terms of dollars.
Imagine our surprise when the White House responded that he wasn’t talking about dollars at all.
“The point the president was making that is there is not a tax cut that has been enjoyed by such a broad section of the population,” an administration official said, pointing to a report that said that 95 percent of working families received some kind of tax cut under the Making Work Pay provision in his stimulus bill.
Huh?
In other words, this isn’t about the size of the tax cut, but about the fact that every working family, except those making more than $190,000, received as much as $800 in tax cuts.
That strikes us as very odd way to claim “the biggest,” but maybe that’s because Obama can’t make that claim...

PBS alters transcript to hide Obama gaffe
American Thinker ^ | 9-10-11 | Timothy Birdnow
Posted on September 10, 2011 8:28:35 AM EDT by radioone
Barack Obama has gone to Congress asking for more money to spend. The President, in a rambling and tedious exercise mixing blame with demands, made quite a few dubious statements in laying out the case for Congress to vote for the plan which as yet does not exist. Much like Obamacare, Congress must ultimately vote for the bill to know what is in it.
At one point Mr. Obama made a major gaffe; he identified Abraham Lincoln as the founder of the Republican Party.
Lincoln did not join the Republicans until 1856, over two years after the party was founded. The first Republican convention was held in Ripon, Wisconsin in 1854.
Such a gaffe would have brought huge amounts of ridicule and derision on George W. Bush, but in the case of Obama the media yawned.

Gaffetastic.
Obama is so used to assuming the position that he thinks “bow and spear” in Psalm 46 means he’s supposed to bend at the waist. As Freeper ExSabotSender noted,
“If he had been familiar with text he would have know that Bow – is a reference to a weapon of war like in bow & arrow. Two more weapons of war follow in verse 9 – the spear & chariot. Instead he pronounced the word as Bow – to been at the waist, the front of a boat, or limb of a tree.”
Guess they didn’t teach that verse at Trinity United Church, huh?
It sure is a good thing his last name isn’t Bush.

Oops, Obama touts his jobs plan today at an Ohio bridge that won't qualify
LATimes ^ | September 22, 2011 | Andrew Malcolm
You know all those rusting bridges that President Obama wants to spend billions more dollars repairing to allegedly stimulate the economy?
He's headed out to one today which he's described as a "bridge that needs repair between Ohio and Kentucky that's on one of the busiest trucking routes in North America." It is on a busy trucking route, spanning the Ohio River between Covington, Ky., and Cincinnati.
It's the Brent Spence Bridge. It doesn't really need repairs. It's got decades of good life left in its steel spans. It's just overloaded. The bridge was built to handle 85,000 cars and trucks a day, which seemed like a lot back during construction in the Nixon era.
Today, the bridge sort of handles more than 150,000 vehicles a day with frequent jam-ups.Obama speaks to the American Legion 8-30-11
So, plans are not to repair or replace the Brent Spence Bridge. But to build another bridge nearby to ease the loads.
But here's the problem, as John Merline graphically notes here, that could screw up all those envisioned photo op shots of the Democrat and the traffic:
The president's jobs bill is designed for "immediate" highway spending.
And the new $2.3 billion Cincy bridge is not scheduled to even start construction for probably four years, long after Republicans have scheduled the Obama presidency for completion.
And without delays, it wouldn't be finished until 2022, when no one will be counting Obama's rounds of golf.

New gaffe: Obama hails America's historic building of 'the Intercontinental Railroad'
Andrew Malcolm
September 23, 2011 | 5:24 am
"We’re the country that built the Intercontinental Railroad," Barack Obama.
That's what the president of the United States flat-out said Thursday during what was supposed to be a photo op to sell his jobs plan next to an allegedly deteriorating highway bridge.
A railroad between continents? A railroad from, say, New York City all the way across the Atlantic to France? Now, THAT would be a bridge!
It's yet another humorous gaffe by the Harvard graduate, overlooked by most media for whatever reason. Like Obama saying Abraham-Come-Lately Lincoln was the founder of the Republican Party. Or Navy corpseman. Or the Austrian language. Fifty-seven states. The president of Canada. Etc.
If you talk as much as this guy likes to talk instead of governing, if you believe you are a Real Good Talker as much as this guy does, you're gonna blow a few lines. But this many?
No doubt, we'll see a collection of Obama's Best Bombs on 'Saturday Night Live' this weekend, one right after the other. No doubt.

Obama's Attack on Boehner and McConnell Falls Flat
US News & World Report ^ | September 23, 2011 | by Peter Roff
Posted on September 24, 2011 8:53:29 AM EDT by Oldeconomybuyer
On Thursday Obama traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio in support of his new jobs bill. Obama used as a backdrop the Brent Spence Bridge which links northern Kentucky—which McConnell represents—with Cincinnati, Boehner's hometown.
As the Cincinnati Enquirer reported—highway officials in Ohio and Kentucky say that "the bridge is still in the preliminary engineering and environmental clearance phase."
"In a best case scenario," the paper said, "the earliest that workers would be hired would be in 2013, but more likely 2015." A start date four years away won't do much to combat joblessness now. Or, to put it another way, Obama has found another project to trumpet that just isn't as shovel-ready as the White House is advertising it as being.

Obama gaffe: President says billionaires should pay ‘Jew’ tax rate

Speaking at the Congressional Black Caucus annual awards dinner in Washington Saturday night, President Obama made a verbal boo-boo.
While defending his call for the rich to pay more in taxes, the president said he didn’t mind people calling him a class warrior for merely asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a Jew. Whoops!
The president meant to say “janitor” instead of “Jew,” and he immediately corrected himself. After all, he doesn’t need any more problems keeping Jewish voters enthusiastic about his re-election bid.

Obama: Gusts, Gaffes and Basketball Greats (Obama forgets name of $1M fundraiser host)
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer ^ | Sunday, September 25, 2011 | Joel Connelly
Posted on September 25, 2011 8:41:41 PM EDT by kristinn
President Barack Obama sped through wind gusts, withstood gaffes, raised millions of dollars and tried to sell the message of his jobs bill during a whirlwind four-hour Sunday visit to the Seattle area.
The President told a $35,800-a-couple Medina fundraiser that the 2012 election will be “especially hard because a lot of people are discouraged” but vowed he will “keep drawing a clear contrast” between his vision of America and the Republicans’.
The fund raiser was held in the 27,000-square toot, art-draped home of former Microsoft chief operating officer Jon Shirley. Obama deemed the art collection unforgettable. But he could not remember the name of his host.
“I was saying to Mark that I wish I had time to just roam around because this is as beautiful a collection as I’ve ever seen. I want to thank Mark . . .” Obama said. A couple of guests said “Jon,” and the president quickly corrected himself.
SNIP
Inside the Paramount, two basketball greats — Bill Russell and Lenny Wilkins — co-hosted the fundraiser. The two men put on a lavish Obama fundraiser in 2008 that featured to aide Valerie Jarrett.
The gremlins hit Obama again. The President turned to his right and gestured backstage, using his hands to deliver a rolling motion. It appeared the telepromter was not working.
Obama pressed on, but did not look at the teleprompter panes flanking the podium.
The President joked that he he needed the supporters in the room so badly that he came to the Emerald City during a Bears/Packers NFL game.

Gaffetastic!… Obama Thanks “Mark” Shirley For $35,800-a-Couple Dinner… His Name Is Jon Shirley

Terrific!
Barack Obama was guest of honor at a $35,800-a-couple fundraiser in Seattle today. He was very appreciative to his host Jon Shirley… It’s just unfortunate that he called him Mark.
Seattle P-I reported:
The President told a $35,800-a-couple Medina fundraiser that the 2012 election will be “especially hard because a lot of people are discouraged” but vowed he will “keep drawing a clear contrast” between his vision of America and that of the Republicans.
The fundraiser was held in the 27,000-square toot, art-draped home of former Microsoft chief operating officer Jon Shirley.
It is a tradition of Democratic presidents and presidential candidates to deliver partisan stem-winders in the salons of wealthy donors. Obama did not disappoint.
He warned that electing a Republican presidential candidate next year would deeply hurt the country.
“The (Republican) alternative I think is an approach to government that would fundamentally cripple America in meeting the challenges of the 21st Century and that’s not the kind of society that I want to bequeath to Malia and Sasha, and your children and your grandchildren,” Obama said.
“My hope when I came into office that was because we were in crisis that the other side would respond by saying now is the time for all of us to pull together,” he added.
“That was not the decision they made so from the moment I took office what we’ve seen is a constant ideological pushback against any kind of sensible reform that would make our economy work better and give people more opportunity.”

Obama's Biggest Lies
Townhall.com ^ | September 26, 2011 | Peter Ferrara
If you work hard, play by the rules, save your money, create jobs, and make a success out of yourself, President Obama and the Democrat party will plunder everything you have worked so hard for, because in their view that is only fair.
That is the meaning of the policies President Obama is espousing as he campaigns for re-election around the country this week. As Mark Steyn has explained, there is no bill yet that the President is demanding Congress pass, it won't create any jobs, and there is no money to pay for it. It is just a traveling road show, and we need to start to hold accountable our relatives, friends and neighbors who would fall for it, and thereby darkly threaten the entire future of America.
Calculated Deception
Campaigning for re-election on Monday, President Obama said,
Middle-class families shouldn't pay higher tax rates than millionaires and billionaires. That's pretty straightforward. It's hard to argue against that. Warren Buffet's secretary shouldn't pay a higher tax rate than Warren Buffett. There is no justification for it. It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million. Anybody who says we can't change the tax code to correct that.... They should have to defend that unfairness -- explain why somebody who's making $50 million a year in the financial markets should be paying 15 percent on their taxes, when a teacher making $50,000 a year is paying more than that -- paying a higher rate. They ought to have to answer for it.
Let me educate you, Mr. President, even though I am quite certain you are not interested in hearing any answer that contradicts your committed religious beliefs. But the truth is that the unfairness you discuss is a fantasy. The facts are just the opposite.
Even before you were elected, Mr. Obama, under the tax policies adopted by President Reagan, House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and the much vilified President George W. Bush, official IRS data for 2007 showed that the top 1 percent of income earners paid more in federal income taxes than the bottom 95 percent combined! The top 1 percent of income earners that year earned 22 percent of income but paid 40.4 percent of total income taxes. When Reagan became President, the top 1 percent paid 17.4 percent of income taxes, as I note in my recent book, America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb. As Jack Kemp used to say, if you want to soak the rich, cut tax rates. Moreover, the bottom 40 percent plus of income earners now pay no federal income tax on net as a group.
So if "the rich" are not paying their fair share, Mr. President, what would that fair share be? Based on these official facts, for you to run around the country telling America that we could have jobs and balance the budget and solve the debt crisis you are creating if the rich would just pay their fair share of taxes only demonstrates that you are not qualified to be President. Either you don't understand the basics of America's tax policies even after you have been President for three years, or you are engaged in calculated deception thinking your fairy tale will fool enough gullible people that you can be re-elected despite an economic record so bad that it is threatening to rival the Great Depression.
As the Wall Street Journal further explained yesterday, in 2008 official IRS data shows that taxpayers earning over $1 million paid an average federal income tax rate of 23.3 percent. Those earning between $500,000 and $1 million paid an average federal tax rate of 24.1 percent. As the Journal further elaborated, "that is more than twice the 8.9% average rate paid by those earning between $50,000 and $100,000, and more than three times the 7.2% average rate paid by those earning less than $50,000. The larger point is that the claim that CEOs are routinely paying lower rates than their secretaries is Omaha hokum."
Actually it is a Warren Buffett scam. His company that made him rich, Berkshire Hathaway, itself is a sophisticated tax shelter. If tax rates are raised, that will only lead more of the wealthy to flee to investing in his company to avoid the abusive multiple taxation. The IRS claims that Buffett's company owes a billion dollars in back taxes. If Buffett thinks the rich don't pay their fair share, why is he fighting this? Why doesn't he just pay his fair share as required under current law?
Buffett is just playing all of us like President Obama is. What a disgrace that our public debate has fallen this low, to this level of rank, manipulative dishonesty.
And the above doesn't even count the corporate income tax. America suffers from virtually the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world, nearly 40 percent on average counting state corporate income taxes. Even Communist China has a 25 percent corporate rate. The average rate in the European Union, which is reputedly mostly socialist, is even less than that. In formerly socialist Canada, the corporate tax rate is 16.5 percent, slated under current law to fall to 15 percent next year. Compared to America, Canada has been booming since Obama was mistakenly elected.
The Obama/Buffett ruse arises just like any other magician's trick. It focuses attention on just one tax rate paid on income arising from capital investment -- the capital gains tax rate of 15 percent. The florid abusive rhetoric distracts from the multiple taxation of that income, which is actually taxed at least four separate times under our tax code. Capital investment income is taxed first by the above mentioned, abusive, internationally uncompetitive corporate income tax. If any is paid out as dividends, then it is taxed again by the individual income tax. If the value of the capital interest, say a share of stock, manages to increase in the Obama depression, then it is taxed again by the capital gains tax. If anything is left at death, then it is subject to taxation again by the death tax.
Moreover, a basic principle of our tax code is that any business expenses incurred to produce income are deductible in the year they are incurred. But not the expenses of capital investment. Those expenses can only be deducted over several years under depreciation rules, which is yet another form of discrimination and plunder of capital investment. Moreover, the money devoted to any capital investment has already been taxed when it was earned, so that is effectively still more taxation of the same income.
That is how the top 1 percent of income earners ends up paying more than the bottom 95 percent combined. And it is why the average tax rate paid by millionaires is three times the average rate paid by the middle class.
On the basis of his abusively misleading rhetoric, President Obama in his campaign speech on Monday called for $1.5 trillion in increased taxes. That would be on top of all the tax increases for which Obama has already won enactment under current law for 2013. In that year, the tax increases of Obamacare become effective, and the Bush tax cuts, which President Obama has refused to renew for the nation's small businesses, job creators, and investors, expire.
As a result, the top two income tax rates will go up by nearly 20 percent. The capital gains tax would soar by nearly 60 percent. The tax on dividends would nearly triple. The Medicare payroll tax would rocket up by 62 percent for these disfavored taxpayers. That is before the new tax increases our Dear Leader called for on Monday.
Those Tax Increases Are Not Paid For
President Obama said in his campaign speech on Monday that Congress should pass his jobs plan "knowing that every proposal is fully paid for." They are paid for by his tax increases on "the rich," which he says will raise $1 trillion, 573 billion over 10 years. But those tax increases don't have a prayer of raising nearly that much.
Obama and Buffett are blowing smoke over the 15 percent rate on capital gains and on dividends adopted in the Bush years. But over the last 40 years, every time the capital gains tax rate has been cut, revenue has gone up. And every time the capital gains tax rate has been raised, revenue has gone down.
In 1968, a 25 percent capital gains tax rate yielded real capital gains tax revenues of $40.6 billion calculated in 2000 dollars. The capital gains tax rate was then raised four times in the next eight years to 35 percent. By 1975, at the higher rate, capital gains revenues totaled $19.6 billion in constant 2000 dollars, less than half as much.
In 1978, the capital gains tax rate of 35 percent raised $29.9 billion in 2000 dollars. The capital gains rate was then cut three times to 20 percent over the four years. By 1986, the new rate 43 percent lower than the 1978 rate raised $92.9 billion in 2000 dollars, about three times as much.
The capital gains rate was raised by 40 percent the next year, to 28 percent. Capital gains revenues fell to $56.2 billion that year, and declined all the way to $34.6 billion by 1991.
The reason for this is that when the capital gains rate was cut, more taxpayers sold their capital and realized their gains, and a rising stock market produced more gains. When the rate was increased, more taxpayers held on to their capital and a declining stock market cut off the gains.
You might say that the estimate Obama gives for his tax increase just reflects the official scoring of the proposal from the Congressional Budget Office and Joint Tax Committee. But in 1997, Congress was considering a cut in the capital gains rate from 28 percent back down to 20 percent. The Joint Tax Committee (JTC) estimated that as a result revenues would increase by $7.8 billion from 1997 to 1999, but the tax cut would produce a loss of $28.8 billion over the following seven years, for a net loss of $21 billion over the 10 year period.
The actual numbers after the tax cut was passed showed an increase of $84 billion over the pre-tax cut projections for 1997 to 2000. Despite an almost 30 percent cut in the rate, capital gains revenues rose from $62 billion in 1996 to $109 billion in 1999.
Similarly, Congress considered cutting the capital gains rate again in 2003, from 20 percent to 15 percent. The JTC estimated that this would cause a loss of revenue of $5.4 billion from 2003 to 2006. But after Congress passed the tax cut, capital gains revenues increased by $133 billion during those years, as compared to the pre-tax cut projections. As Dan Clifton of the American Shareholders Association said, "There is no excuse for this $138 billion error." Capital gains tax revenue doubled from 2003 to 2005 despite a 25 percent cut in the tax rate.
Similarly, when the tax rate on dividends was cut to 15 percent in 2003, dividends paid soared, and so did the resulting revenue.
So if we effectively raise these rates again under President Obama's tax piracy proposals, revenues will most likely decline rather than rise. If those tax increases push the economy back into recession, federal revenues will decline across the board, and the national debt will soar further.
Moreover, there is further miscalculation in Obama's proposals. He claims $2 in spending cuts for every $1 in tax increases. But most of his spending cuts involve $1.84 trillion in supposed savings due to the withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan over the next 10 years that have long been expected. President Bush signed a peace treaty with Iraq providing for withdrawals in 2008.
Another $436 billion in spending cuts are from assumed interest savings due to the supposed spending cuts in the plan. But interest rates over the next 10 years will only rise from the current historic low levels. Moreover, there are no net spending cuts in the plan. The remaining cuts outside the planned reductions in Iraq/Afghanistan spending over the next 10 years total $577 billion. But the proposal involves $447 billion in increased "stimulus" spending for the President's so-called Jobs Plan. In addition, $320 billion of the remaining $577 billion are cuts to Medicare and Medicaid mostly involving further reduced payments to doctors and hospitals providing health care to the poor and elderly under those programs. That only threatens the continued provision and quality of that health care.
Class Warfare: Making War on Working People
Before this last recession, since the Great Depression recessions in America lasted an average of 10 months, with the longest previously lasting 16 months. But in August 2011, 44 months after the last recession began, unemployment was stuck at 9.1 percent, with exactly zero jobs created for the month, leaving over 25 million Americans unemployed or underemployed. This is the longest period of unemployment that high since the Great Depression, when Keynesian economics first reigned supreme.
Unemployment for African-Americans in August was 16.7 percent, stuck at depression levels for over 2 years. Hispanic unemployment at 11.3 percent has been in double digits for over 2 years as well. Teenage unemployment was a depression level 25.4 percent. Black teenage unemployment was at a Jim Crow level 46.5 percent.
The U6 unemployment rate, reflecting total unemployment and underemployment, was 16.2 percent. And that still doesn't fully count the millions of Americans who have given up and dropped out of the work force altogether.
The Census Bureau reported on September 14 that median family income has fallen all the way back to 1996 levels. As the Wall Street Journal explained the next day, "Earnings of the typical man who works full time year round fell, and are lower -- adjusted for inflation -- than in 1978."
Census also reported that the poverty rate climbed to 15.1 percent, higher than in the late 1960s when the War on Poverty was getting underway, $16 trillion ago. The child poverty rate climbed to 22 percent, nearly a quarter of all American children. The total number of Americans in poverty is higher than at any time in the over 50 years that the Census Bureau has been tallying poverty.
Obama apologists cannot argue that this is because the recession he inherited was so bad. The historical record for the American economy is the worse the downturn the stronger the recovery. Based on the historical record, we should be completing our second year of a booming recovery by now.
These are the natural results of Obama's class warfare. If you try to rob the rich, you only end up stealing from the poor and working people. That is because the poor and working families have the most to lose when the economy turns bad, as they lose the jobs and wages they need to maintain a basic standard of living.
Most small business income is earned by singles making over $200,000 or families making over $250,000. Obama's $1.5 trillion tax increase, and his 2013 tax increases, will fall precisely on these small business earners. And most jobs are created by small business.
Moreover, what creates jobs is capital investment. Virtually all of Obama's tax increases will fall on capital investment, as proposed in his supposed jobs plan, and in 2013. The result would be even fewer jobs. If the economy falls back into recession, unemployment will soar further, along with government spending, deficits and debt.
But Obama figures the suckers will have re-elected him by then, and he could care less.

New gaffe: Obama confuses Jews with janitors
LAT ^ | 9/26/11 | Andrew Malcolm
President Obama spoke to the Congressional Black Caucus awards banquet over the weekend.
Those folks will stick with him in 2012, of course.
But they've been somewhat miffed in recent months that the first post-partisan president is doing too many deals with those Republicans and seeming to give in.
So, Obama needed to give the crowd some presidential love. He even brought his wife along. As with virtually all of Obama's speeches recently, the Democrat's remarks dealt with selling his jobs legislation, as if it wasn't DOA on Capitol Hill.
The first black president got to reminiscing about some other struggles in the past familiar to African Americans.
His 28 minutes of remarks had a strange tone to them, as if somehow Obama was equating support for his jobs program legislation with the far more important and historic civil rights movement.
He got into the usual yada-yada about rich people paying their fair share of taxes.
And then, deep into the speech, according to the White House transcript, the president said:
When you start saying, at a time when the top one-tenth of 1 percent has seen their incomes go up four or five times over the last 20 years, and folks at the bottom have seen their incomes decline -- and your response is that you want poor folks to pay more?
Give me a break.
If asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a janitor makes me a warrior for the working class, I wear that with a badge of honor. I have no problem with that.
That's what the transcript says he said.
Now, watch the C-SPAN video below, and listen especially to the phrase "the same tax rate as a janitor..."

Obama's Randomly-Selected Questioner Just So Happens To Be A Major Democratic Donor
Ace of Spades blog citing Mark Knoller ^ | September 26, 2011
Wow, what a shock. Doug Edwards, formerly an executive with Google. And now, as he says, retired, by choice.
Guy seems to be willing to pay a lot of money to get his taxes raised. $10k to the Ohio Demo Partry in 2010
$7.5k to John Kerry in 2004
$500 to the DNC Services Corp in 2004
$2.3k to Michael Arcuri in 2007
$2.1k to Bob Casey in 2006
$250 to Hillary Clinton in 2007
$1k to John Courage in 2006
$5k to the DCCC in 2006
$700 to Kay Hagan in 2008
$1k to Ron Klein in 2006
$2,300 to Harry Mitchell in 2007
$1k to Joe Sestak in 2006
$2.3k to John Yarmouth in 2007
$2k to the Franken Recount fund in 2008
$2.3k to Timothy Walz in 2007
$30k to to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
$2.4k to Betty Sutton for Congress in 2010
$1k to Bill Foster for Congress in 2010
As a general matter, he gives the federal limit ($2300 or $2400) to a lot of Democratic candidates.
Here's a screencap of the donor information for "Edwards, Douglas." You have to skip some of these entries because it's not the same Doug Edwards (e.g., he's not an attorney and not likely to donate to some kind of lobbying group for convenience stores).
One odd thing is that he's only given $500 (five hundred) to Obama himself.
I sort of think these records might be incomplete. I can't see this guy showering $2300 on every Patrick Murphy or Tammy Duckworth and then only giving Obama $500.
You can look it up here.
Thanks to "Northern California."

Obama’s Big Lie To Ohio
BY NEOAVATARA – SEPTEMBER 26, 2011
Ohio is going to be the keystone to any Presidential strategy. And as such, we will be seeing a lot of this President, and the Republican nominee, over the next 14 months.
But we have already seen that this President has little or nothing to offer the great state of Ohio.
Obama last week, in what can only be defined as a political stunt, went to the Brent Spence Bridge spanning the Ohio River near Cincinnati. The choice of Cincinnati was not random, as it is the home of Speaker of the House John Boehner, and lies acrosss the Ohio River from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s home state of Kentucky.
So Obama, in his usual arrogant and condescending manner, proclaimed the bridge as a perfect example of why Republicans, and all Ohioans, heck, all Americans should support his jobs plan. He stated that bridges like the Spence Bridge need to be fixed to prevent them from falling, and America could create jobs by immediately supporting his bill. In fact, Obama specifically pointed to the bridge and said it was crumbling, and we should infer that Republicans are basically putting lives at risk by not supporting the funding.
Great story. One problem: there is virtually nothing factual about Obama’s argument.
First and foremost, the Brent Spence Bridge is 48 years old. According to the Department of Transportation, and the website for the bridge repair or replacement that can be seen here, the bridge in fact is in such good repair, it could function for decades more. In fact, by the websites own analysis, it is not crumbling at all. According to the DOT, the bridge could last another 50 years with basic improvements.
There is one caveat. People are pushing for funding…to replace the bridge in its entirety. This is not because it is crumbling, or at risk of falling down. It is because business leaders argue that it is functionally obsolete. This means that the bridge, initially designed to carry approximately 85,000 cars and trucks a day, now carries almost twice that number. The problem is not structural, so much as capacity, as the bridge is a common cause of backups and delays.
So Mr. Obama’s statement of a ‘crumbling bridge’ is totally and completely a misstatement.
Furthermore, the project to replace the Spence Bridge is nowhere ready to move any time soon. According to supporters of replacing the bridge, the earliest work could even begin on a replacement is…2015. In other words, Obama would be in the third year of his second term in office before a single job was created in either Ohio or Kentucky. In fact, the project was considered so unworthy of ‘shovel ready’ status, that it was not provided funding in the first Obama stimulus specifically for that reason.
There are, of course, a multitude of problems with this. First and foremost is Obama’s ability to try to use people’s vulnerabilities, such as fear of the bridge falling down and of course the larger issue of the lack of jobs, to scare them into supporting his plan. But it gets even more fundamental than that. Obama’s jobs bill specifically states that projects must be started no less than 2 years after passage of the bill…thus making the Brent Spence Bridge ineligible for funds from the Jobs bill he is promoting, while standing in front of said bridge.
Another obvious problem is more basic with Obama’s, and most liberals, solution for economic growth. Nothing they do today will have virtually anything other than a minimal effect for years. And even then, the large stimulative effect on the economy is questionable at best. In short, this administration is simply out of ideas on creating jobs or on moving the economy again, and simply is lying to voters across the nation in order to distract the American people from that reality.

Obama: ‘You Can’t Have a Modern Industrial Economy’ Under GOP Tax Plans

Obama: ‘You Can’t Have a Modern Industrial Economy’ Under GOP Tax Plans By Fred Lucas September 26, 2011
(CNSNews.com) – Under Republican tax proposals it would not be possible to have a “modern industrial economy,” President Obama said during a town hall event in Mountain View, Calif. on Monday.
A member of the audience asked whether he could pay more in taxes, adding that he had been helped by federal Pell grants and infrastructure and job training programs that allowed him to be successful.
“Right now, we’ve got the lowest tax rates we’ve had since the 1950s,” Obama said during a lengthy reply.
“And some of the Republican proposals would take it back – as a percentage of GDP – back to where we were back in the 1920s,” he added. “You can’t have a modern industrial economy like that.”

Oops! White House fails basic geography test
Looks like someone in the White House press office needs to brush up on their U.S. geography.
The press office issued credentials to those reporters and photojournalists who are covering the president’s trip this week to Washington state, California, and Colorado. The credential even provides a handy graphic highlighting (in white) which states the president will visit.
The only problem?
Wyoming is highlighted, not Colorado. To be fair, both states are square, nearly identical in size, and stacked next to each other. But we doubt our third grade teachers would buy that!

Chicago Bears Legend Snubs Obama
Politico ^ | Sept. 27, 2011
The Chicago Bears team that won the 1986 Super Bowl never had an official visit to the White House because of the Challenger explosion, so President Obama — a big Bears fan — has invited the squad for a visit on Friday.
It may be a nice gesture, but one player is saying no thanks.
Dan Hampton, who played for the Bears for more than a decade, said on Chicago’s Mully and Hanley radio show on Monday, “It's my own personal choice, and I don’t choose to go.”
Hampton explained that he won't go, first of all, because his family can't attend. “How do you go to the White House and you tell your, kids, your wife, oh wait, I’m sorry you’re not invited?” he said.
"Secondly, I’m not a fan of the guy in the White House,” he said. “Third, hey, it was 25 years ago. Let it go.”

Obama Email: ‘We Rely on Ordinary Americans’ for Campaign Cash
Never mind that President Obama left California today with millions of dollars in fresh campaign cash gathered from hundreds of his wealthiest donors.
Obama says what sets his campaign apart from any other is that “we rely on ordinary Americans giving what they can – one grassroots donation at a time.”
“I enjoy talking about fundraising deadlines as much as I imagine you enjoy hearing about them,” he said in an email to supporters. “But this Friday’s deadline is important. It’s a chance for us to prove how we’re different from any campaign in politics.”
The message is geared towards pressuring small-dollar donors to open their wallets before the end of the second major fundraising period on Sept. 30.
Obama has offered to place a personal phone call to a select group of supporters who give as $3. His campaign is also running a sweepstakes for grassroots supporters to win dinner with the president.

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama told an audience of high school students in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday that he was “not always the very best student” and that ethics “would not have made it on the list” of his favorite subjects.
“I was not always the very best student that I could be when I was in high school, and certainly not when I was in middle school,” Obama said, speaking at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School.
“I did not love every class I took. I wasn’t always paying attention the way I should have,” Obama said. “I remember when I was in 8th grade I had to take a class called ethics. Now, ethics is about right and wrong, but if you’d ask me what my favorite subject was back in 8th grade, it was basketball. I don’t think ethics would have made it on the list.”

Obama went on to tell the high school students that even though that 8th grade ethics class was not one of his favorites it did have a significant impact on his life—and now inspires the way he acts as president.
“I still remember that ethics class, all these years later,” Obama said. “I remember the way it made me think. I remember being asked questions like: What matters in life? Or, what does it mean to treat other people with dignity and respect? What does it mean to live in a diverse nation, where not everybody looks like you do, or thinks like you do, or comes from the same neighborhood as you do? How do we figure out how to get along?
“Each of these questions led to new questions,” said Obama. “And I didn’t always know the right answers, but those discussions and that process of discovery--those things have lasted. Those things are still with me today. Every day, I’m thinking about those same issues as I try to lead this nation.”
Obama attended 5th through 12th grade at the Punahou School in Hawaii. The K-12 school describes itself as “an independent college preparatory day school.” On its website, it cites as the first element of its mission: “To provide an environment where students can: Develop moral and spiritual values consistent with the Christian principles on which Punahou was founded, affirming the worth and dignity of each individual.”
The Benjamin Banneker Academic High School where Obama spoke about the ethics he was taught in 8th grade at his private college preparatory school is a public school.

A bogus chart on Obama and the debt gets a new lease on life
By Glenn Kessler
“Who Increased the Debt? President Reagan 189%. President GHW Bush 55%. President Clinton 37%. President GW Bush 115%. President Obama 16%.”
— Data on a chart floating around the Web this week (an older version of the chart above)
There’s a saying attributed to Winston Churchill that goes something like this: "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."
Try as we might at The Fact Checker, we find that no matter how many times we clearly identify an untruth — such as a ridiculous e-mail on Obama’s health-care plan — it still keeps popping up, months later.
So imagine our surprise when we found in our Facebook feed this week a chart, purporting to show how Republican presidents — Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush — had increased the debt by a significantly greater percentage than either Bill Clinton or President Obama. Pretty impressive chart, “liked” by at least 7,000 people on a posting by the liberal group MoveOn.org.
But this chart, originally created by the office of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, is as phony as a three-dollar bill. Our friends at PolitiFact did a pretty thorough takedown of it in May, giving it their worst rating: “pants on fire.” They even caught the Pelosi people in a bad mathematical error, based on the fact that the Democrats calculated the numbers as if Obama took office a year later than he did.
That error greatly reduced Obama’s supposed percentage increase (from 35 percent to 16 percent) and boosted George W. Bush’s increase (from 86 percent to 115 percent). Pelosi’s office corrected the math error after it was spotted by PolitiFact, but amazingly, the chart that turned up in several places in our Facebook feed was the old chart.
But even with the corrected number, this is still a Four-Pinocchio whopper. Let’s explain why.
The Facts
The person who posted this on Facebook noted: “From the US Treasury Dept — any questions?” But it actually is not a Treasury Department calculation, just manipulated data taken from the Treasury Web site.
The chart has some basic conceptual flaws. In particular, it cherry-picks the data that portray Obama in the best light by claiming to show “public debt” but in actuality using the statistics for gross debt.
Gross debt includes intergovernmental transactions such as bonds held by Social Security and Medicare, but public debt is the more commonly used figure of national indebtedness.
If the chart actually used public debt rather than gross debt, it would have put Obama and George W. Bush virtually in the same league — 60 percent increase (as of September 2011) for Obama versus 70 percent for Bush — even though Bush served as president much longer.
But the biggest problem is that this is just dumb math. What really counts is not the raw debt numbers, but the size of the debt as a percentage of the gross domestic product. The GDP is the broadest measure of the national economy and directly indicates the nation’s ability to service its debts. In fact, the White House budget office historical tables portray much of the data as a percentage of GDP, because that is the best way to truly compare such numbers over time.
If the chart were recast to show how much the debt went up as a percentage of GDP, it would look pretty bad for Obama after not even three years in office. In fact, Obama does almost twice as poorly as Reagan — and four times worse than George W. Bush.
Reagan: plus 14.9 percentage points
GHW Bush: plus 7.1 percentage points
Clinton: down 13.4 percentage points
GW Bush: plus 5.6 percentage points
Obama: plus 24.6 percentage points
(Note: We derived most of these data from table 7.1 of the budget office historical tables, which gives end-of-fiscal year figures, so they do not quite match up to presidential terms. Obama’s figures are based on the GDP: public debt ratio as of June 30, 2011)
One can offer reasons for why Obama’s performance appears so poor, including the fact that he is battling a recession. An improvement in the nation’s economy would boost the gross domestic product, which would certainly begin to reduce his ratio. But the fact remains that under basic economic measures, not phony ones, his record on the growth of the national debt is the worst of recent presidents.
The Pinocchio Test
If MoveOn.org or Pelosi’s office had any sense of shame, they would have quietly removed this chart from the Web when PolitiFact gave it a “pants on fire” rating four months ago. The fact that an outdated version is still floating around — and that people are still deluded into thinking it to be correct — is doubly shameful.

GAFFE-OLOGY
Strategery, misunderestimated, refudiate: former President George W. Bush and Sarah Palin have been chastised by journalists and academes for their inventive language and occasional grammatical gaffes for years. Now it is President Obama’s turn. Here comes “Obama Grammar: Using the President’s Bloopers to Improve Your English,” a new book that parses Mr. Obama’s command of the language, or lack thereof.
“The first wordsmith is, in fact, an occasional stem-winder who is grammatically challenged,” says author and Harvard-educated historian William Proctor, who pored over 3,000 pages of the president’s official speeches and remarks. He’s convinced that Americans — particularly students — can learn a little something from Mr. Obama.
“His speeches reveal that at this point, he is simply not in the same rhetorical-grammatical league as a Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy or Ronald Reagan,” Mr. Proctor says. “Even as we explore Mr. Obama’s errors, we should not lapse into smug, finger-pointing complacency. His mistakes should serve as a reminder to the rest of us that we, too, may need to clean up our technical language skills.”
The author also sets the record straight on presidential pronunciation bloopers of several persuasions and provides the “Great Obama Grammar Face-Off.” From Inkslingers Press, the ebook is available for $10 on Kindle, via Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Obama Urges Supporters to Stick With Him in Fundraising Pitch at Deadline
QBy Kate Andersen Brower - Oct 1, 2011 12:01 AM ET .
President Barack Obama, in a push to raise money as the deadline for third-quarter campaign fundraising arrived, told donors he needs their help as much as ever to reach his goals for the nation.
While a lot has been accomplished, Obama said last night, “what we haven’t done is change Washington. And we still have work to do to make sure that this town is working on behalf of ordinary folks so that they can start once again believing in the American dream. Because people have lost confidence in the capacity of folks to look out for them, as opposed to look out for themselves or their most powerful patrons. And that’s what 2012’s all about.”
Obama addressed about 60 guests at a campaign event at a private home in Washington with tickets ranging from $10,000 to $35,800 each.
All the Republican presidential hopefuls will probably trail him in fundraising, including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who anticipates taking in between $13 million and $14 million in the third quarter, according to a person close to the campaign.
Obama raised $86 million for the combined total of his campaign and the Democratic National Committee in the second quarter. The campaign and party are targeting a combined goal of $55 million for the third quarter.
The president told the donors his first-term accomplishments include the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” and passage of his health-care law. More must be done to help the middle class, he said, because Republicans want “to basically allow the most powerful forces in our society to write their own rules.

President Obama: America 'Not Better Off' Today than Four Years Ago (All together now: "Duh!")
ABC News ^ | BY RUSSELL GOLDMAN
Posted on Monday, October 03, 2011 3:54:52 PM
Calling himself an "underdog," President Obama today said the faltering economy is a drag on his presidency and seriously impairing his chances of winning again in 2012.
"Absolutely," he said in response to a question from ABC News' George Stephanopoulos about whether the odds were against him come November 2012, given the economy. "I'm used to being the underdog. But at the end of the day people are going to ask -- who's got a vision?"
The American people, he conceded, are "not better off" than they were four years ago.
"The unemployment rate is way too high," he said of the 9 percent jobless rate, the highest in more than half a century…

Obama: No regrets over Solyndra
Posted by:
CNN White House Producer Alexander Mooney
President Obama Monday said he does not regret a half-billion dollar government loan to the now-bankrupt solar energy company Solyndra and vigorously defended his administration’s policy of providing assistance to similar entities.
“No I don’t,” the president said when asked directly if he regretted the $535 billion federal loan guarantee in 2009. “Because if you look at the overall portfolio of loan guarantees that had been provided, overall it’s doing well. And what we always understood is that not every single business is going to succeed in clean energy.”
The comments came in an interview with ABC and Yahoo News.
Obama specifically touted Solyndra in a visit to its California headquarters in 2010 but the company closed shop just over a year later, putting more than 1,000 people out of work and leaving the government unlikely to get back all the money it loaned.
Meanwhile, e-mails revealed by a House Energy and Commerce Committee investigation indicate at least some members of the administration expressed trepidation over the firm’s financial health before the loan was approved.
Obama brushed aside those contentions in the interview Monday, saying that "hindsight is always 20-20."
"It went through the regular review process and people felt like this was a good bet," he added.
But Solyndra's bankruptcy has renewed criticisms from Republicans that it is unwise to risk taxpayer dollars in start-up companies with outlooks that are far from guaranteed. The Solyndra loan, ultimately approved by the Department of Energy in 2009, was part of a $40 billion stimulus-funded effort to support renewable and clean energy technology.
“If we want to compete with China, which is pouring hundreds of billions of dollars in this space, if we want to compete with other countries that are heavily subsidizing industries of the future, we have got to make sure that our guys, here in the United States of America, at least have a shot,” Obama said Monday.
Meanwhile, top Solyndra executives refused to testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee last month, leading the Justice Department to seek additional oversight in the bankruptcy proceedings

Obama Says He Can Stop Bank of America from Making 'a Certain Amount of Profit
FoxNation.com ^ | Oct 3 | Staff
President Obama joined fellow Democrats in blasting a new fee on debit card users announced by Bank of America, arguing that banks do not have an "inherent right" to a certain amount of profits. The bank has come under a hail of criticism after it announced it would begin charging debit card users $5 a month, blaming the move on policymakers who curbed the amount of fees they could collect from retailers. "You don’t have some inherent right just to get a certain amount of profit if your customers are being mistreated," he said in an interview with ABC News. "My hope is that you’re going to see a bunch of the banks saying to themselves, 'You know what, this is not good business practices.'"

Obama Asking People to "Tweet for Jobs"
My email inbox | 10/4/2011 | DNC
President Obama is in Dallas today urging Americans who support the American Jobs Act to demand that Congress pass it already.
Though it's been nearly a month since he laid out this plan, House Republicans haven't acted to pass it. And House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is out there actually bragging that they won't even put the jobs package up for a vote -- ever.
It's not clear which part of the bill they now object to: building roads, hiring teachers, getting veterans back to work. They're willing to block the American Jobs Act -- and they think you won't do anything about it.
But here's something you can do: Find Republican members of Congress on Twitter, call them out, and demand they pass this bill.
Be the first to use our new tool and tweet for jobs.
Here's why we built this new tool, and why it's important.
If you've written letters or sent email to Congress before, you know it can be a frustrating experience -- sometimes it takes them weeks to respond, and sometimes they don't respond at all.
But many members of Congress personally receive the messages sent to them on Twitter, so you have a better chance of getting your message directly to them.
And even if they don't respond, your message will be public -- front and center for everyone who follows you or your representative. That means their staff, other constituents, and the media will see the mounting pressure.
So tweet for jobs now:
http://my.barackobama.com/Tweet-for-Jobs
If you don't use Twitter, you can also contact someone else who needs to hear from you about this bill: The editor of your local paper. We have a tool that lets you send a letter to the editor, and even gives you facts and tips to help you write the most effective note you can. Write one now:
http://my.barackobama.com/Letters-for-Jobs
The American Jobs Act is not controversial legislation.
Ideas like rebuilding our roads and bridges, repairing our public schools, and keeping teachers in our classrooms are all ideas the Republicans have said they would support or have even proposed themselves.
But they're so dead set on preventing anything from getting done on President Obama's watch that they will reverse, deny, or ignore what they've said and done in the past -- even if it costs more American jobs.
And remember: They're willing to cost you and any other American your job, or your chance at a new job, because they think that doing nothing won't cost them theirs. Tweet at Republican members of Congress now and tell them you want a vote on the jobs bill right away:
http://my.barackobama.com/Tweet-for-Jobs
Or write a letter to the editor:
http://my.barackobama.com/Letters-for-Jobs
I know we've been asking a lot of you lately, and all of us here would have loved to give you a break this week after all the emails we've been sending. But the reality is that we're building a grassroots organization from the ground up even as we're supporting the President in battles that need to be won right now. And that means we've got to be willing to stay focused week after week from now through the election.
Thanks again to all of you who donated to the campaign before the end of the third quarter, and for everything else you do to have the President's back.
Thanks,
Messina

Obama administration orders California medical marijuana dispensaries to shut down in 45 days!
Calif. pot dispensaries told by feds to shut down
U.S. prosecutors send letters even though state law allows
By LISA LEFF
October 6, 2011
Federal prosecutors have launched a crackdown on pot dispensaries in California, warning the stores that they must shut down in 45 days or face criminal charges and confiscation of their property even if they are operating legally under the state's 15-year-old medical marijuana law.
In an escalation of the ongoing conflict between the U.S. government and the nation's burgeoning medical marijuana industry, California's s four U.S. attorneys sent letters Wednesday and Thursday notifying at least 16 pot shops or their landlords that they are violating federal drug laws, even though medical marijuana is legal in California. The attorneys are scheduled to announce their coordinated crackdown at a Friday news conference.
Their offices refused to confirm the closure orders. The Associated Press obtained copies of the letters that a prosecutor sent to 12 San Diego dispensaries. They state that federal law "takes precedence over state law and applies regardless of the particular uses for which a dispensary is selling and distributing marijuana."
The move comes a little more than two months after the Obama administration toughened its stand on medical marijuana following a two-year period during which federal officials had indicated they would not move aggressively against dispensaries in compliance with laws in the 16 states where pot is legal for people with doctors' recommendations.

FACT CHECK: Obama claims miss some evidence
Oct 7, 4:17 AM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Are President Barack Obama's ideas for job creation really bipartisan as he claims? Not when the means for paying for them are put in the equation.
The president dodged various facts and and left some evidence in the dust in his latest challenge to Republicans to get behind his jobs program or offer a real alternative.
A look at some of the claims in his fast-paced news conference and how they compare with the facts:
OBAMA: "If it turns out that there are Republicans who are opposed to this bill, they need to explain to me, but more importantly to their constituencies and the American people, why they're opposed, and what would they do."
THE FACTS: While Republicans might not be campaigning on their opposition to Obama's plan, they've hardly kept their objections a secret.
In a memorandum to House Republicans Sept. 16, House Speaker John Boehner and members of the GOP leadership said they could find common ground with Obama on the extension of certain business tax breaks, waiving a payment withholding provision for federal contractors, incentives for hiring veterans, and job training measures in connection with unemployment insurance.
They objected to new spending on public works programs, suggesting instead that Congress and the president work out those priorities in a highway spending bill. And they raised concerns about Obama's payroll tax cuts for workers and small businesses, arguing that the benefits of a one-year tax cut would be short-lived. The memo also pointed out that reducing payroll taxes, which pay for Social Security, temporarily forces Social Security to tap the government's general fund. And it opposed additional spending to prevent layoffs of teachers, police officers and other public workers.
---__
OBAMA: "Every idea that we've put forward are ones that traditionally have been supported by Democrats and Republicans alike."
THE FACTS: Obama proposes to pay for his jobs bill by raising taxes, something traditionally opposed by Republicans and, in the form Obama proposed it, even some Democrats. Senate Democrats were so allergic to Obama's approach, which relied largely on limiting deductions that can be taken by individuals making over $200,000 a year and couples making more than $250,000, that they're eliminating it and replacing it with a new tax on millionaires.
In claiming bipartisan support for the components of his proposal, the president appears to be referring just to what the plan would do, not how it's paid for, but that's a crucial distinction he doesn't make.
Some of tax-cutting proposals offered by Obama have received significant Republican support in the past. But some of the new spending he proposes has received only nominal Republican backing. Evidence of bipartisanship provided by the White House includes legislation last year that provided $10 billion to prevent teacher layoffs. It won the support of only two Republican senators - Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both of Maine and among the most moderate Republicans in Congress. Another example cited by the White House was his proposal last year to offer tax breaks to businesses that hire new workers - it passed the House 217-201 with six Republican votes.
---_
OBAMA: "The answer we're getting right now is: Well, we're going to roll back all these Obama regulations... Does anybody really think that that is going to create jobs right now and meet the challenges of a global economy?"
THE FACTS: Well, yes, some think it will. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce last month submitted a jobs proposal to Obama that included a call to ease regulations on businesses. It specifically called for streamlining environmental reviews on major construction projects and to delay the issuance of some potentially burdensome regulations until the economy and employment have improved. In the letter, Chamber President Thomas Donohue also called on Congress to pass legislation that would require congressional approval of major regulations. The chamber did not indicate how many jobs such regulatory changes could create, but it said: "Immediate regulatory relief is required in order to begin moving $1 trillion-$2 trillion in accumulated private capital off of the sidelines and into business expansion."
---_
OBAMA: "We can either keep taxes exactly as they are for millionaires and billionaires, with loopholes that lead them to have lower tax rates, in some cases, than plumbers and teachers, or we can put teachers and construction workers and veterans back on the job."
THE FACTS: True, "in some cases" wealthy people can exploit loopholes to make their tax rate lower than for people of middle or low income. In recent rhetoric, Obama had suggested it was commonplace for rich people to pay lower rates than others, a claim not supported by IRS statistics. But on Thursday, Obama accurately stated that it only happens sometimes.
In 2009, 1,470 households filed tax returns with incomes above $1 million yet paid no federal income tax, according to the IRS. Yet that was less than 1 percent of returns with incomes above $1 million. On average, taxpayers who made $1 million or more paid 24.4 percent of their income in federal income taxes; those making $100,000 to $125,000 paid 9.9 percent; those making $50,000 to $60,000 paid 6.3 percent. The White House argues that when payroll taxes - paid only on the first $106,800 of wages - are factored in, more middle class workers wind up with a higher tax rate than millionaires.
---
OBAMA: "China has been very aggressive in gaming the trading system to its advantage and to the disadvantage of other countries, particularly the United States. .... And currency manipulation is one example of it, or at least intervening in the currency markets in ways that have led their currency to be valued lower than the market would normally dictate. And that makes their exports cheaper and that makes our exports to them more expensive."
THE FACTS: While Obama complained about China's efforts to keeps its currency undervalued to gain trade advantages, his administration has repeatedly refused to brand China as a currency manipulator in a report that the Treasury Department is required to send to Congress twice a year.
Such a designation would trigger negotiations between the two countries and could ultimately lead to U.S. trade sanctions against China.
The administration has been reluctant to brand China a currency manipulator, as have past administrations, because the United States depends on China to buy U.S. Treasury securities to help finance America's budget deficits. China owns $1.17 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities, making it the largest foreign holder of Treasury debt.

We're definitely not better off than 4 years ago. But who to blame?
Do we blame the President who worked diligently to pass sweeping changing legislation- got some thru, and some failed?
Or do we blame members the new congress that vowed to "do nothing", actually chanted "Shut it down!" with crowds, and cost us the S&P rating with their "brinksmanship", according to S&P?
It's a little tough for repubs to blame obama when they were elected to do a job, and they have prided themselves on doing nothing.

Maybe they should offer to work without a congressional salary. They're not creating new solutions to these problems. They're coming into work, holding down a desk, and saying no to anything. Not creating bipartisan solutions. Just plain ol' saying no to everything.

White House: Millionaire tax isn’t enough

White House: Millionaire tax isn’t enough Neil Munro -- The Daily Caller 39 mins ago
President Obama wants tax increases on the wealthy, regardless of whether the Democrats’ proposed millionaire tax becomes law, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday.
“The president’s position has not changed” since he called for increased tax rates on individuals earning more than $250,000 per year, and for adoption of the “Buffett Rule,” Carney said during his midday press conference.
Under the still-vague “Buffett Rule,” named for multi-billionaire investor Warren Buffett, the government would ensure wealthy people could not use current features of the tax code — such as the relatively low rate on capital gains income — to pay a lower tax rate than ordinary wage earners.
The Senate’s newly proposed 5.6 percent levy on taxpayers earning more than $1 million annually is “apples and oranges” to the president’s tax proposals, Carney said.
“Everyone [should] pay their fair share … it is simply a matter of making sensible choices,” he said.
Carney’s comments came a day after Obama said he was “comfortable” with the Democrats’ millionaire tax.
Democratic Senators from wealthy states have discarded Obama’s $250,000-cutoff proposal, instead pushing for a surtax on millionaires. This approach helpfully positions the White House to run a populist campaign against Wall Street while shielding most of president Obama’s upper-income supporters and donors in the professional and business sectors.
On Thursday, for example, New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer described families who earned $250,000 as “firmly” in the middle class. “They are not rich, and in large parts of the country, that kind of income does not get you a big home or lots of vacations or anything else that’s associated with wealth in America,” he said, according to the New York Post.

Obama 'Makes Up Meeting With Teacher Who "Lost His Job"... And He Is Actually Still Employed' Barack Obama talked about Robert Baroz on Thursday Said Baroz got 'three pink slips' - but he 'never lost job' Said he 'had chance to meet him' - but they 'never met' By DAILY MAIL REPORTER 8th October 2011
Barack Obama is today facing accusations that his tale about a teacher told he was losing his job three times was not entirely accurate. The President claimed on Thursday to have ‘had a chance to meet a young man named Robert Baroz’ - but they have reportedly never met.
He also talked about the teacher ‘receiving three pink slips because of budget cuts’ - but neglected to mention he reportedly never lost his job.
Speech: President Barack Obama is facing accusation that his tale about a teacher told he was losing his job three times was not entirely accurate
‘He’s got two decades of teaching experience,’ President Obama said in a press conference on Thursday. ‘He’s got a master’s degree. 'In the last few years, he’s received three pink slips because of budget cuts. Why wouldn’t we want to pass a bill that puts somebody like Robert back in the classroom teaching our kids?'
‘He’s got an outstanding track record of helping his students make huge gains in reading and writing. In the last few years, he’s received three pink slips because of budget cuts.
‘Why wouldn’t we want to pass a bill that puts somebody like Robert back in the classroom teaching our kids?’
The nearest they reportedly ever got to meeting was when Mr Baroz was on the front row of a jobs bill press conference at the White House last month.

Obama Campaign Pressures Potential Donors by Comparing Them With Neighbors
Published October 08, 2011 | FoxNews.com
The Obama campaign is testing a new approach to fundraising, blasting out emails that ever-so-gently shame supporters into donating.
Before the end of the third-quarter fundraising deadline last month, the campaign sent around specially tailored messages to those on their email list who hadn't yet contributed to President Obama's 2012 reelection fund. Campaign Manager Jim Messina urged them to chip in, by pointing out how many of their neighbors had already done so.
An email sent to a New York recipient read as follows: "Here's something you don't have in common with 15,049 other supporters of this movement who tell us they live in New York, NY."
Messina went on to say that all those donors "had their own personal reason for giving," and reiterated that "our records show that you aren't one of the 15,049 people where you're from who have stepped up for 2012.
"Now's your chance to change that," Messina wrote. The email then asked for a minimum donation of $3 to help the campaign reach its goal of attracting 1 million donors.
The emails took on a personal and local tone, giving stats in each community for how many Obama supporters had already donated. One email sent to Grayslake, Ill., noted that 160 people had "stepped up" for the president.

Obama: Republicans Don't Want A Place Where People "No Matter What They Look Like" Can Succeed
Related Videos | expand Playing obama republicans dont want a place where people no matter what they look like can succeed
At a forum on American Latino Heritage, President Obama goes through a litany of ideas that he is for, including his new stimulus, and ends with "none of this matters to Republicans in the Senate." One of those ideas is believing America is "a place where every child, no matter what they look like, where they come from, should have a chance to succeed." Transcript of Obama's prepared remarks are below:
I ran for President for the same reason many people came to this country in the first place: Because I believe America should be a place where you can always make it if you try; a place where every child, no matter what they look like, where they come from, should have a chance to succeed.
I still believe in that America. I believe we can be that America again. The truth is, the problems we face today were a long time coming and solving them will take time. In a global economy, it will require us to have the best-educated workforce, the strongest commitment to research and innovation, the most reliable communications and transportation networks.
But with so many people hurting today, there are things we can do right now to make a difference. There are things we should do right now to put more people back to work and to restore a sense of security and fairness that's been missing for too long.
So that's why I put forward the American Jobs Act. That's why I sent Congress a jobs bill made up of the kinds of proposals that, traditionally, Democrats and Republicans have supported. Independent economists who do this for a living have said the American Jobs Act would lead to more growth and nearly 2 million jobs next year. No other jobs plan has that kind of support from actual economists -- no plan from Congress, no plan from anybody.
But apparently, none of this matters to Republicans in the Senate.

Hours after dismissing party politics, Obama attacks GOP again
The Daily Caller ^ | October 16, 2011 | Neil Munro
Posted on October 16, 2011 4:36:25 PM EDT by matthewreporter
Two hours after President Barack Obama cited Rev. Martin Luther King’s advice that Americans not question each others’ love of country, his spokesman demanded that GOP legislators “put country before party” by ending their opposition to the president’s spending plans.
Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest made the demand during an afternoon press conference called to tout the president’s three-day bus tour through counties in swing-states Virginia and North Carolina.
The bus tour starts Monday and is intended to magnify the media’s coverage of poll-tested provisions in Obama’s proposed $446 billion, one-year stimulus bill, the American Jobs Act. For example, the measure seeks the expenditure of $35 billion to employ up to 400,000 teachers for the year prior to Obama’s reelection vote.

Obama Mocks Republicans As Too Stupid To Understand His Entire Jobs Bill At Once…
Weasel Zippers ^ | 10/17/2011 | Zip
Jackass.
(The Hill) — President Obama started off his three-day bus tour kicking Senate Republicans for blocking his jobs bill, saying he is breaking up his plan because “maybe they just couldn’t understand the whole thing at once.”
Speaking in Asheville, N.C., a favorite locale of Obama’s, the president began his tour by criticizing Senate Republicans for blocking his $447 billion bill last week, and challenging Congress to pass the bill in “bite-sized pieces.”
The president said that in blocking his bill, Senate Republicans — he did not mention the two Democratic ‘no’ votes — “said ‘no’ to you.”
“Sixty-three percent support the jobs bill I put forward,” Obama said. “One hundred percent of Republican senators voted against it. That doesn’t make any sense, does it?”

Thieves steal truck with President's equipment
Posted: Oct 17, 2011 10:45 PM EDT
Updated: Oct 17, 2011 11:09 PM EDT
By Laura Geller - bio | email
NBC12 has uncovered one of those stories that makes you think: "How in the world does that happen?!" A truck filled with President Obama's podiums and audio equipment was stolen in Henrico just days before his visit to Chesterfield.
We confirmed an investigation with the U.S. Defense Department. There are still a lot of questions. The biggest one being did the thieves intentionally target the President's truck or did they take advantage of a crime of opportunity and give a big "uh-oh" when they saw what was inside.
When you see President Obama speak, there is a pretty typical setup including the presidential seal on a podium, the see-thru Teleprompter and a portable sound system.
Thieves saw the truck carrying that equipment and couldn't resist the target.
We're told the truck was parked at the Virginia Center Commons Courtyard Marriott in advance on Wednesday's presidential visit to Chesterfield.
Sources said inside that vehicle was about $200,000 worth of sound equipment, several podiums and presidential seals, behind which only the President himself can stand.
They told NBC12 around 12:30 Monday afternoon that truck was recovered in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express near the airport and hotel staff confirm police activity. One guest we spoke with said he saw various law enforcement agencies examining a white box truck parked there.
According to him, the entire back parking lot was blocked off as Henrico Police along with "lots of guys in suits" investigated. He said the truck had no markings and no indication anything special was inside. That leads to another big question of whether or not any of that was actually stolen.
Late Monday evening we found a truck with US government tags still parked in the Marriott's lot. We are waiting to find out if that is the original truck returned to the staff or a second vehicle.
We were able to get this statement from a Defense Information Systems Agency spokesperson: "No classified or sensitive information was in the vehicle. We take incidents such as this very seriously and a formal investigation is continuing."
We are waiting to find out if surveillance cameras on the building captured the crooks on tape.

Obama: I married Michelle to improve my gene pool
By Peter Maer Topics First Family
First Lady Michelle Obama has played a major and at times humorous role on the final day of her husband's three-day bus tour through North Carolina and Virginia.
Joining the president at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia, Mrs. Obama announced a new private sector commitment to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013. Improving the lives of the military is one of her causes.
Following the First Lady's introduction, the president went off-script as he commented on his wife. Looking out at a sea of military personnel in battle fatigues, Mr. Obama admitted, "I hate following Michelle. She's so good."
To the laughter of the service people he added, "See for you men out there who are not yet married, let me explain. The whole goal is to marry up--to try to improve your gene pool."

WCCO-TV correspondent: "When I finally did have a chance to talk to President Obama one-on-one, I asked him at what point does the economy become his fault and not his predecessor's?"
President Barack Obama: "It's always my responsibility. I'm less interested in allocating blame then just making sure that we're taking every step we need to, to move the economy forward. And, you know, traditionally after big financial crises like this the economy takes a longer time to heal and we've seen some progress. In the private sector, we've seen over two million jobs created and this year alone, over a million jobs created. But, it's just not enough yet to have an impact on everybody who needs help out there."
Obama was also asked the quintessential question that every president gets when he is running for reelection: "Are we better off now than we were four years ago?"
"Well, you know, I think we are better off now than we would have been if I hadn't taken all the steps that we took," a hesitant Obama said. "I don't think the country is stronger yet then it was when the economy was still booming and we didn't have Wall Street crisis, and we didn't have the housing bubble burst. But, we've made steady progress, we just need to make more."

Obama pokes fun at Sarkozy at G-20 sidelines
Zee News ^ | November 3, 2011
Cannes: In a bid to break the tension ahead of the G20 summit, US President Barack Obama in a lighter vein told a notoriously looks-sensitive Nicolas Sarkozy that France's "First Baby" was lucky to inherit her former supermodel mother Carla Bruni's looks.
Obama, who has two daughters, congratulated Sarkozy on the birth of Giulia Bruni-Sarkozy at a joint press conference they held prior to the G-20 summit where world leaders will brainstorm how to solve the worsening Eurozone crisis.
"I want to mention that this is our first meeting since the arrival of the newest Sarkozy, and I want to congratulate Nicolas and Carla," Obama said.
"And I informed Nicolas on the way in I was confident Giulia inherited her mother's looks, rather than her father's, which I think is an excellent thing," the US president said as he tried to build rapport with his French host.
While the mediapersons and other officials present gave out a muted laughter, Obama's diminutive French counterpart Sarkozy had a rueful smile.
The two leaders have a history of tense relations. Sarkozy, 56, is notoriously sensitive about his looks, dieting constantly, and going out on power runs and cycle rides to keep in shape like his 43-year-old wife.
"Now, we share one of the greatest challenges and blessings in life, being fathers to our daughters," Obama added.
Giulia Bruni-Sarkozy was born last month in a Paris clinic.
Sarkozy has three sons from his two previous marriages, while Bruni-Sarkozy has an 11-year-old son, Aurelien, from a previous relationship.

Why Sarkozy's 'liar' remark may hurt Obama in 2012 election
Reuters ^ | 11-8-11 | Yann Le Guernigou
French President Nicolas Sarkozy branded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "a liar" in a private conversation with President Barack Obama that was accidentally broadcast to journalists during last week's G20 summit in Cannes.
"I cannot bear Netanyahu, he's a liar," Sarkozy told Obama, unaware that the microphones in their meeting room had been switched on, enabling reporters in a separate location to listen in to a simultaneous translation.
"You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him even more often than you," Obama replied, according to the French interpreter.
The technical gaffe is likely to cause great embarrassment to all three leaders as they look to work together to intensify international pressure on Iran over its nuclear ambitions.
The conversation was not initially reported by the small group of journalists who overheard it because it was considered private and off-the-record. But the comments have since emerged on French websites and can be confirmed by Reuters.
Obama's apparent failure to defend Netanyahu is likely to be leapt on by his Republican foes, who are looking to unseat him in next year's presidential election and have portrayed him as hostile to Israel, Washington's closest ally in the region.
Pushing Netanyahu risks alienating Israel's strong base of support among the US public and in Congress.
Netanyahu's office declined immediate comment.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama acknowledged on Wednesday that black Americans have faced "enormous challenges" with unemployment under his watch, and appealed for their support in pursuing solutions that he can implement without help from Congress.
Appearing at a daylong White House summit of black business, community and political leaders, Obama said the current 15.1 percent unemployment rate among blacks is "way too high," and that various other problems that plagued black communities before he took office, such as housing and education, have worsened.
"We know tough times," the president said. "And what we also know, though, is that if we are persistent, if we are unified, and we remain hopeful, then we'll get through these tough times and better days lie ahead."
Noting that his proposed American Jobs Act is still pending in Congress, Obama made a plea for ideas "where we don't have to wait for Congress," and initiatives "that we can take right now administratively that would make a difference in the communities that all of you represent."
Obama has endured some tough criticism within the black community because joblessness among African Americans runs chronically higher than the overall unemployment rate, which is 9 percent. Some of his toughest critics have been within the Congressional Black Caucus. Some caucus members have said he was not targeting the problems faced by blacks.
The Obama administration disputes that argument. However, Wednesday's session was a noticeable departure from its past mode of studiously de-emphasizing race when it comes to its policies.
"Since day one, the president has fought for the policies that matter to the African-American community," White House adviser Valerie Jarrett told reporters on Tuesday.
The president's appearance was not on the official agenda of the African-American Policy In Action Leadership Conference organized by the White House and held at the Executive Office Building next door.
Audience members jumped to their feet and cheered when the president walked onto the stage, interrupting a question-and-answer session for a panel that included Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and EPA administrator Lisa Jackson.
At the forum, the president touted elements of his jobs bill that would address those issues and said his plan is the only one out there that will put people back to work.
A White House report released in conjunction with the forum enumerates policy initiatives and decisions that administration officials said helped African Americans. The officials encouraged attendees to spread the word of the accomplishments in their communities.
Obama said the three years of decisions and actions summed up in the report have lessened the severity of the economic crisis for millions, kept millions out of poverty and made sure millions had unemployment benefits, health care and other assistance.
The report "also talks about the foundations that we are laying, so that as the economy recovers, the African-American community and communities all across the country of every stripe" can rebuild with solid middle-class jobs with good benefits, Obama said.
For example, he said, his administration has sped up payments to government vendors so they are paid in 15 rather than 30-day increments.
"This is something that can benefit folks right away, and we can start seeing a difference in our communities," Obama said.

No Surprise: Obama Can’t Pronounce Khe Sanh
by KEITH KOFFLER on NOVEMBER 12, 2011, 2:08 PM
It spooks you a little when the commander in chief doesn’t seem to know much about military history, or the military itself.
Who can forget this treasure from February 2010. He’d already been president a year.
And now yesterday, we got this:
How do you, especially if you are running our armed forces, not recognize Khe Sanh and know how to pronounce it? Goodness, you need only have listened to Bruce Springsteen’s anti-America diatribe, “Born in the USA,” to have known how, since he mentions the Battle of Khe Sanh in the song.
Look at the veterans at the end of the video. They almost look like they’re scratching their heads. “Key-san? Like, ‘I left my keys on the counter?’”
Well, some may think I’m picking on Obama, but I think not.
I believe we have elected the first truly peacenik president. I don’t think he understands war, I don’t think he’s studied it, and I don’t think he believes it is particularly important or perceives its ramifications, beyond that it causes death and destruction.
I think his dovish sensibility is what caused him to conduct a half hearted “surge” in Afghanistan that featured an explicit alert to the Taliban about how long they would have to hang on before we left. I think it is what caused him to remove all our troops from Iraq before it was safe to bring them home. And I believe it’s what prompted him to “lead from behind” in Libya, resulting in a far longer war that caused more death and destruction than needed occur.
His policies may well lead to a reassertion of Taliban control over Afghanistan and the squandering of the victory won by George W. Bush.
Because the only thing he gets about war is that he wants to get out of it. Beyond caring for our soldiers, the military means nothing to him
And that’s why he can’t pronounce corpsman or Khe San.

Obama calls for China, India action on climate
AFP ^ | Nov.16, 2011
US president Barack Obama Wednesday said he would be pushing for greater efforts by emerging economies on global warming at coming climate talks in South Africa, which he warned would be a "tough slog".
Obama described Australia's carbon tax, passed into law last week, as a "bold strategy" to tackle pollution and said he would be advocating that countries like China and India take greater responsibility at Durban.
"The advanced economies can't do this alone, so part of our insistence when we are in multilateral fora, and I will continue to insist on this when we go to Durban, is that if we are taking a series of steps then it's important that emerging economies like China and India are also part of the bargain," he said.
"It doesn't mean that they have to do exactly what we do, we understand that in terms of per capita carbon emissions they've got a long way to go before they catch up to us, but it does mean that they've got to take seriously their responsibilities as well," he told reporters on a trip to Australia.

OBAMA: Well, you know, I hope it's not just a negative campaign. I hope this is a serious debate about our future. It's understandable that folks in Ohio aren't feeling great.

"We're going around the country, talking about, ‘How do we put people back to work? How do we improve our schools? How do we make sure that we're producing American energy? How do we lower our debt in a responsible way?' And I don't think you or anybody who's been watching the campaign would say that in any way we have tried to divide the country. We've always tried to bring the country together," President Obama said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Obama admits he’d like a ‘weird superpower’ (ability to speak any language.. flying OK too)
Yahoo ^ | 8/17/12 | Olivier Knox - The Ticket
Posted on Friday, August 17, 2012 12:09:20 PM
President Barack Obama admitted Friday in a radio interview broadcast that he yearns for a "weird superpower"—the ability to speak any language. But flying might be cool, too.
Obama, speaking to the "Morning Mayhem" crew on 93.3 KOB FM in Albuquerque, also came out in favor of red chili over green, said the best advice he ever got was "be persistent" and revealed that he has never heard the original version of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" but has watched a gone-viral video of himself performing it. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s an incumbent president in a tough fight for re-election! (Larry Downing/Re …
So what superpower would the most powerful man in the world like to have, one of his questioners asked, noting that parts of "The Avengers" were filmed in New Mexico.
"It's kind of a weird superpower, but if I had something that I could immediately wish for, I would love to be able to speak any language," the president said.
"Now, that's a weird superpower—it might not come in handy to rescue folks from a burning building," he added. "But I've always wished that whatever country I went to, wherever I met somebody who spoke a different language, that I could right away speak their language."
"I'm a big believer in making connections with people. But if it's like an 'Avengers' superpower, then I think the whole flying thing is pretty good," he said. "You can't beat just kinda swooping around. That looks like it'd be fun."

Obama: 'Very Rare I Come to an Event Where I’m Like the Fifth or Sixth Most Interesting Person'
9:14 PM, Aug 22, 2012 • By DANIEL HALPER
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-very-rare-i-come-event-where-i-m-fifth-or-sixth-most-interesting-person_650558.html
This evening at the president's "NBA heroes" fundraiser in New York City, featuring Michael Jordan and Carmelo Anthony, Barack Obama was star struck.
"It is very rare I come to an event where I’m like the fifth or sixth most interesting person," President Obama said, according to the pool report. "Usually the folks want to take a picture with me, sit next to me, talk to me. That has not been the case at this event and I completely understand."
Here's more from the pool report:
President Obama addressed about 120 people at a dinner held on a stage in the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, many of them connected to pro basketball. Michael Jordan and David Stern were standing at the microphone as the pool entered the room. ...
Obama acknowledged Jordan, Stern and Duncan (“an outstanding basketball player in his own right”) at the top of his remarks. He also said there were some legendary Knicks in the house.
“This is my dream team.” ...
He wound up by saying: “I can’t resist a basketball analogy. We are in the fourth quarter. We’re up by a few points but the other side is coming strong and they, they, they play a little dirty. (Laughter) We’ve got a few folks on our team in foul trouble. We’ve got a couple of injuries and I believe that they’ve got one last run in them.”

Obama Pulls a Biden: ‘Three Proud Words: Made in the USA’
The Blaze ^ | 9/9/12 | Erica Ritz

Like every president, Barack Obama has his generally-accepted strengths and weaknesses.
His speech-giving ability is, without a doubt, one of his greatest assets, but in Florida over the weekend the man made an error almost identical to one made earlier by Vice President Joe Biden.
Needless to say, public speaking is not one of Joe Biden’s greatest strengths.
Speaking to a roaring crowd, the president said that American manufacturers are making products that we can sell around the world, stamped with “three proud words.”
What are they? The president continued, separating each word for emphasis: “Made in the USA.”

Obama - Biden "We Have Ended The Taliban Regime" Not Really, But Still Saluting Seal Team 6
JoeClarke.Net ^ | 09/09/2012 | JoeClarke.Net
Posted on September 9, 2012 9:13:54 PM EDT by joeclarke
[As the anniversary of that horrifying holocaust on 9/11 approaches, I just witnessed the most riveting first hand account of Seal Tea 6's heroic raid on Bin Laden's compound on 60 Minutes. He revealed no top secret info, yet, at this time, he is under threat by enemies at home and abroad, including the Pentagon for telling the story every American should hear. An Obama spokesperson has already threatened the Seal author, so lets support him by buying his book "No Easy Day."]
Joe Biden: " I'll give you two good reasons why we should reelect President Obama - General Motors and Bin Laden."
General Motors was saved by giving the ailing company a rigged bankruptcy which blessed the unions while shafting investors, and a tax holiday permitting GM to avoid paying billions of dollars in taxes. As of this date, GM has not repaid all of the billions of dollars given to it. Its stock would have to double for GM to come even close to total repayment.
Its fine that President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have bragged on "Getting Bin Laden" as one of the best accomplishments of President Obama, but just assassinating the head of the snake has not slowed Al Qaeda down. In fact, they are regrouping and wreaking terror like never before - while aiming at U.S. troops among their chief targets. This past week, Obama again made the claim that he has "Ended the Taliban regime." Not So Fast, Al Qaeda Breath.
According to one report, the United States is even helping to train Al Qaeda in Pakistan to fight with the rebels against the Syrian regime. This, all the while Al Qaeda has been initiating a disturbing influence in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon - post mortem Osama Bin Laden. And,Al-Qaeda asks Hezbollah to renounce support of Syrian regime.
Since last week, Al Qaeda is the prime suspect for the killing and wounding of over 20 Americans and Pakistanis in Peshawar in retribution for the multitude of drone attacks in various areas of Pakistan. The Obama administration is afraid of offending Pakistani officials, although it is well known that several government departments in Pakistan have close ties to Al Qaeda. Twenty Pakistanis were pulled off a bus recently and butchered by an Al Qaeda supported Taliban.
Maybe Romney was right that, "It was not worth moving heaven and earth to get Bin Laden," but I'm glad we did get him, however, I would caution President Obama and Joe Biden not to excessively celibrate Osama's assassination, as the Taliban and Al Qaeda networks have been able to do fine without him. Just as quick as drones have been knocking off Al Qaeda leaders, other leaders have immediately emerged, convincing Afghans, trained by U.S. forces, to shoot their trainers - U.S. forces.
Here is more proof of the resurging Al Qaeda/Taliban, despite the fake bravado and braggadocio of those twin terrors - Obama and Biden:
Avoiding The Looks That Kill the Taliban have been increasing their intimidation attacks on civilians
September 7, 2012: Over the last month combat activity has been increasing east of Kabul, in an area 100-150 kilometers from the Pakistan border. This is particularly true in Kunar province, which is northeast of Kabul. There's always been a lot of action southeast of Kabul is Paktia, Paktika, and Khost provinces just across the border from terrorist sanctuary North Waziristan. The presence of more soldiers and police has weakened Taliban control over the civilians in these provinces. In response, the Taliban have been increasing their intimidation attacks on civilians, including beheading children (often siblings of policemen, as a warning to not be too hard on local Taliban)
U.S Fuels Taliban Anger By Inclusion of Haqqani network in Black List
"The Taliban said the US move would have no impact on their operations. Zabihullah Mujahid, their spokesman, warned the action would fuel anti-American sentiments in the region.
Suicide bomber kills 30 Afghans in attack at funeralBy BILL ROGGIOSeptember 4, 2012
Although the Taliban have not yet claimed credit for the attack, they have claimed other suicide attacks in Nangarhar in the past, including the Feb. 27, 2012 suicide assault on the main ISAF airbase in Jalalabad that killed nine people; the May 18, 2011 suicide bombing that killed 13 police recruits in Jalalabad; and the Feb. 11, 2011 suicide assaulton a bank in Jalalabad.
The Taliban really do worry Islamabad
The prospect of the Taliban taking over the war-torn country after the pullout of foreign forces is the biggest nightmare for the Pakistani security establishment.
Obama Ends The War But Doesn't Do The Job

Bombers Kill 6 In Kabul - 6 Hours Ago September 9,2012A suicide bomber struck outside NATO headquarters in Kabul on Saturday, killing six street children a day after the United States moved to blacklist the Haqqani faction as a terrorist organisation. The Taliban, leading a decade-long insurgency against NATO troops and the Afghan government, swiftly claimed responsibility, saying the CIA had been the target to avenge US moves to designate as terrorists their most feared faction.

President Obama addressed the debt and deficit, saying it is not a problem in the "short term," during an appearance on CBS's "Late Show" with host David Letterman. Obama also said he did not know what the national debt was when he took office.
When a concerned Letterman asked him about the debt, Obama laid the responsibility for the U.S. national debt and deficit on his predecessor former President George W. Bush.
"Well, here's what happened. We had a surplus when Bill Clinton was president," Obama said. "It was projected to continue to be a surplus. We decided to launch two wars on a credit card. We cut taxes twice without finding offsetting costs for it or ways to pay for it, a prescription drug plan and then we had a massive recession."
"When I walked into office we had a trillion dollar deficit, debt had mounted and then we had to take a bunch of emergency measures, that cost money, saving the auto industry, making sure that the financial system got back on track," Obama said.
"So now what we've got to do is we've got to pare down that deficit, get that debt under control and I think the only way we've ever been able to do that effectively is when you do it in a balanced way," Obama explained.
When asked if he remember what the national debt was when he entered office, President Obama said "I don't know what the number was precisely." Obama told Letterman "we don't have to worry about it short term."
"A lot of it we owe to ourselves. Because if you invest in a treasury bill or something like that then essentially you're loaning the government money. In fact, the majority of it is held by folks who live here, but we don't have to worry about it short term," Obama said.
"Right now interest rates are low because people still consider the United States the safest and greatest country on earth, rightfully so, but it is a problem long term and even medium-term. And so we're going to have to take care of this debt and deficit, but we've got to do it in a balanced way," he added.
