A recent survey indicates 72 percent of Spanish speakers surveyed don't know there's a drinking and driving law in Texas.
"I don't know that you can say for sure that within that community it's a bigger problem than the rest of our community. I think the hard part might be communication," said Ofc. Egdorf.
TxDOT has unveiled 6 telenovelas showing the choices people make when it comes to drinking and driving. The agency paid $80,000 in production costs and says 4 television stations in Houston are running them.
"I agree with the educational intent," Rick Dovalina, past president of LULAC, said.
"It's a social thing, and I don't think it goes down ethnic lines. I think it's a problem. I think they need to do a general educational push" he added.
"It's not saying this part of the community is really bad, and we have to deal with it. It's not that at all. It's just we have to do a better job of getting the message out," said Ofc. Egdorf.
The telenovelas will be airing for 2 weeks during the "no refusal" crackdown. They're also available on TxDOT's YouTube channel and will be used as teaching tools by organizations across the state.
this isnt the main point of the story just something i found interesting...Tx will also be the first state to declare a state wide no refusal weekend.

I find it hard to believe that a person from anywhere in any country would think there isn't laws with in any country against drinking and driving. I bet there's something not quite right about the survey.

Most illegals are illiterate in two languages.

I hate the time difference. No wonder the left coasters are so out of touch so often.

Shit loads of traffic out here too.
Just seems very superficial out here.
Amazing weather and palm trees etc, but not for me.

Its not about being illiterate or not, its more about common sense.

I live in Mexico, and they put checkpoints all the time for DUI. They also impound your car, overall cost is about 1000 US dollars, and they make you go to AA meetings. If you can't pay, you go to jail. I don't know where they get their studies, but this is total bullshit, as usual. You get caught three times you go to jail for 6 mnths to a year. Oh yeah, they even have breathalizers and will take your blood. They actually have real doctors here.

I'm in cali and some people think I m lying. Here on a visit of a sick relative and get a few moments to get out and observe. Very pretty place, but could never ever live here.
I had a whole table of people of give me a bad look the other night when I asked why one of the boys was dressed in pink.
Bunch of panzies.

In many Latin American countries it's kinda like a macho thing to drink and drive, and if they get caught, they pay off the police...so, they come here and continue on the same practices..same for domestic violence.
-
that's kinda odd since Mexico also has drinking/driving laws.
-
This is why i suspect its a bogus survey.

Which are barely enforced. And they have a very unreliable driver's license database and criminal data base, very unreliable

Watching that soccer game in pasadena made me sick.
Those mexis really are making no pretenses whatsoever anymore where their loyalties are.
As for the dwi stuff - there are daily stories about illegals killing americans. They just don't give a fuck.

Both. Lol
The place I was at has really went downhill, the resort was at about 25% occupancy with no large groups other than mine. Usually in June it's near full.
Got food poisoning....no fun. ( first ever in Mexico)

No lol. Just doing my best not to lose my head. ;D

Everyone is oblivious to my post. I'm telling the truth. Four years ago, you could pay the cops off. I was in a BMW 745, I got pulled over 5 times on the way home. Each time 20 bucks, it's different now, you don't drive drunk here. You pay a driver 20 dollars for the night. They especially like putting gringos in jail.

Venezuela has drinking/driving laws too.
