Title: Did anyone else NOT workout today? what did you do instead?
Post by: Howard on June 28, 2011, 10:10:10 PM
I was going to work out but ended  up sleeping until 1 pm , messing around with the wife and watched a bunch of TV. Saw a cool movie called "the Siege" and ordered a pizza around 10 pm. Got the large thin crust feast style from Domino for 12 bucks.
Good day overall , seriously. I'm gettin out of the cave by friday...maybe not if it is hot?

We had Pizza as well, but from a local pizzeria.  Before I ordered it, I caramelized my own onions in butter as to have ready when the pizza was to be picked up.  As for the day, I played Saints Row 2 for a while on Xbox 360.  I checked the mail and four books came, three Isaac Asimov novels and one Gore Vidal novel.  I will start on the Vidal novel tonight as I have finished reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle`s complete collection of Sherlock Holmes.

I`ve been on and off of Getbig all day as usual of course.

I started to do a little work outside, picking up limbs, sticks and finishing my archaeological digs on the property, but it was just TOO Humid and TOO Hot.  So I then came in, and read about Formal Gardens for a few hours as we are adding to ours, Boxwood, Privets or Holly to join in another area.  I also read an hour on exterior Primers and ordered a few paint samples from Ralph Lauren.  The same paints used at Thomas Jefferson`s Monticello.

I also walked the Greyhounds with Jezebelle. Not too eventful as it was just entirely too hot outside to do anything remarkable.  Tomorrow is supposed to be 10 degrees less, so I will be outside for certain tomorrow completing my projects.

Technically I still could go work out downstairs and do my chest or something, and I may, but so far I have not.  I will update this if I decided to make the plunge.

Sounds like it was a most satisfying day.  Many times men of wealth waste away in a state of utter worthlessness.  I'm glad to hear that you're time is being spent in most intriguing pursuits!

Fixed.  Great movie!

The only training that I find it easy to make an excuse for missing is legs day.  I still try my best to commit to regular legs training though.  I know that once my squat goes up that my deadlift will go up too.

TA - I'm sure a lot of people would praise the quality of the Sherlock Holmes series but I think I would find it boring to read to be honest.  I find that with works from that period.  I mainly read non-fiction.  Actually, pretty well exclusively.  You have motivated me to take it to the next level and strive for a higher deadlift.  Also, your points about getting rid of unnecessary fat is advice everyone should heed.

I read both as I find just about anything fascinating.  The real problem lies in information overload- Not enough time to read enough books.

Matt C,

Since you enjoy American History a bit, I suggest reading Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis.  It won a Pulitzer and is very well written, yet quite entertaining.

I think you would be rather pleasantly surprised if you read Sherlock Holmes.  Its not dry at all and is high adventure really.  Holmes is truly a getbigger as he ALWAYS makes all around him feel inferior.  Each story is basically a PWNING to Scotland Yard and to Watson.  Try it out, I think you`d like it.

Also, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the FIRST BODYBUILDING JUDGE ever at what was known as THE GREAT COMPETITION, so this is bodybuilding related.

One of his promotions was the first bodybuilding contest, called by Sandow the "Great Competition," held on September 14, 1901. Sandow made it clear that mere bulk would not win the contest; proportion and symmetry of muscular development would be the keys. He was one of the three judges; another was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the physician-author who created Sherlock Holmes.
Staged in the Royal Albert Hall, which had seating for 15,000, the Great Competition not only sold out, it created an immense traffic jam and hundreds of would-be spectators were turned away.

The Orleans Arena holds about 7,000 people.  That is even too big for bodybuilding.  Half the audience is watching from the big screens.

Which Asimov novels?

I still love and re-read Foundation trilogy at least once every 5 years. Long live Seldon!

PS: why don't you just check books out at the library? You can save money, although you do give up on the largesse of lending books to friends or showing them off on a mahogany shelf in your den.

Good question

I went through a historic house the other day, German Colonial built around 1850.

I'd hate to see someone cut through the nice floors to install duct work for Central Air, but Window AC is so shitty.

What's a person to do?

IT SUCKS CAUSE THIS SUMMER I REALLY NEED TO GET INTO FINER CONDITION FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. EVERY 2-3 MONTHS I LOOK BACK AND SEE GREAT IMPROVEMENT...THIS INJURY MAY PREVENT ANOTHER.

The Gods Themselves, The End of Eternity.  Jezebelle has finished the entire Foundation Series and I have yet to complete it.  I buy all of my books in Hardcover only and try to get the first printing.  I don`t do the library as we have a Library and Study in our house.  Books are so cheap these days because nobody reads anymore.

No, we just employ a Chinaman with a fan on each floor. hahaha
Our electric bill is outrageous at times since we have 3 Furnaces and 3 Air Conditioners and 15-18 foot ceilings.  Winter will be the real test and I am sure it will cost a fortune.

Duct work does not have to be obtrusive at all.  Once its done its done forever. Most liveable historic houses that are done correctly will have some perfect ductwork as it helps also to keep humidity and moisture levels optimal for floors and interior wood work so the tradeoff is usually always worth it.

Well all you gotta do is just keep the fire place running. It is always nice to have a fire in the winter even though it just sucks heat out of the house.

I appreciate the advice, I'm still trying to decide what style home I'll be most inclined to purchase.  I'm leaning towards Tudor Revivals of the 1920's.

Going for an 18 mi bike ride

1) How many acres did you leave 'un' mowed?
2) Where did you put all the stuff from the garage?
3) What kind of weed are you growing?
4) What city will 9 miles take you to? (or was it a crotch-killing stationary bike Sybian?)
