U.S. employment growth ground to a halt in June, with employers hiring the fewest number of workers in nine months, dousing hopes the economy would regain momentum in the second half of the year.

Nonfarm payrolls rose only 18,000, the weakest reading since September, the Labor Department said on Friday, well below economists' expectations for a 90,000 rise.

The unemployment rate climbed to a six-month high of 9.2 percent, even as jobseekers left the labor force in droves, from 9.1 percent in May.

"The message on the economy is ongoing stagnation," said Pierre Ellis, senior economist at Decision economics in New York. "Income growth is marginal so there's no indication of momentum.

The government revised April and May payrolls to show 44,000 fewer jobs created than previously reported. (Slideshow: Disappearing Jobs)

The report shattered expectations the economy was starting to accelerate after a soft patch in the first half of the year. It could prompt calls for the Federal Reserve to consider further action to help the economy, but Fed officials have set a high bar.

The U.S. central bank wrapped up a $600 billion bond-buying program last week designed to spur lending and stimulate growth.

"This confirms our view that the Fed will continue to keep rates on hold into 2012 and if weak employment continues it will be pushed out even further," said Tom Porcelli, chief economist, RBC Capital Markets in New York.

Economic activity in the first six months of the year was dampened by rising commodity prices and supply chain disruptions following Japan's devastating earthquake in March.

White House Headaches

Signs the labor market is struggling is a major blow for the Obama administration, which has struggled to get the economy to create enough jobs to absorb the 14.1 million unemployed Americans.

The economy is the top concern among voters and will feature prominently in President Barack Obama's bid for re-election next year. So far, the economy has regained only a fraction of the more than 8 million jobs lost during the recession.

"Today's report is more evidence that the misguided 'stimulus' spending binge, excessive regulations, and an overwhelming national debt continue to hold back private-sector job creation in our country," House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said in a statement.

The economy needs to create between 125,000 and 150,000 new jobs a month just to absorb new labor force entrants. (Click here to see jobs in demand for 2011).

The private sector added 57,000 last month, accounting for all the jobs created, with government employment shrinking 39,000 because of fiscal problems at local and state governments.

Details of the report showed widespread weakness, though factory payrolls rebounded 6,000 after contracting in May for the first time in seven months, with the recovery reflecting a step-up in motor vehicle production.

Construction employment fell 9,000 last month after declining 4,000 in May. Government employment declined for an eighth straight month as municipalities and state governments continued to wield the ax to balance their budgets.

The report also showed the average workweek fell to 34.3 hours from 34.4 hours. Employers have been reluctant to extend hours because of the uncertainty surrounding the recovery.

Average hourly earnings slipped a penny, more evidence that wage-driven inflation is not a risk.

BREAKING: Bachmann pledges to ban pornography |  Tonight, Michele Bachmann became the first presidential candidate to sign a pledge created by THE FAMiLY LEADER, an influential social-conservative group in Iowa. By signing the pledge Bachmann “vows” to “uphold the institution of marriage as only between one man and one woman” by committing herself to 14 specifics steps. The ninth step calls for the banning of “all forms” of pornography. The pledge also states that homosexuality is both a choice and a health risk. You can read all the details of the pledge here.

ky  on Jul 7, 2011 at 2:54 pm

This morning, Iowa’s FAMiLY Leader unveiled “The Marriage Vow: A Declaration of Dependence upon MARRIAGE and FAMILY,” a 14 bullet pledge presidential candidates will have to sign to secure any “future endorsement” from the organization and its influential leader, Bob Vander Plaats. Throughout the early primary process, Vander Plaats — a three-time unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate who helped propel Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) to victory in the state in 2008 and ran a successful campaign to recall three justices who overturned Iowa’s anti same-sex marriage law — has sought to position himself as a gatekeeper to the conservative voters who participate in the Iowa caucuses. Leader has hosted a presidential forum with almost all of the GOP’s 2012 contenders and Plaats has traveled to Washington, DC to present himself as a national Tea Party leader.

Today’s pledge seeks to solidify the organization’s reputation as the state’s conservative moral authority, and it reiterates many of the group’s extreme social views and anti-gay rhetoric. If any candidate signs on to Leader’s vows, they will be agreeing to the following radical constructs:

    – HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE: The preface to the pledge reads, “Social protections…have been evaporating as we have collectively ‘debased the currency’ of marriage…in complete absence of empirical proof, that non-heterosexual inclination are genetically determined, irresistible and akin to innate traits like race, gender and eye color; as well as anti-scientific bias which holds, against all empirical evidence, that homosexual behavior in particular, and sexual promiscuity in general, optimizes individual or public health.” Footnote 8 reiterates this notion.

    – HOMOSEXUALITY IS LIKE POLYGAMY, ADULTERY, POLYANDRY: Vow 4 requires the candidate to pledge “Vigorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage…through statutory, bureaucratic, or court-imposed recognition of intimate unions which are bigamous, polygamous, polyandrous, same-sex.”

    – HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK: Footnote 4 claims that homosexuality causes shorter life expectancy and a higher probability of a long list of sexually transmitted diseases. The Leader has previously compared same-sex marriage to second-hand smoking.

    – SEX IS BETTER AFTER MARRIAGE: Vow 5 requires the candidate to support the notion that “married people enjoy better health, better sex.”

    – PORNOGRAPHY SHOULD BE BANNED: Vow 9 stipulates that the candidate must “support human protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy” and protect them from “seduction into promiscuity and all forms of pornography…and other types of coercion or stolen innocence.”

    – REJECT SHARIA ISLAM: Vow 11 requires the candidate to reject Sharia law.

Exactly, like putting "Warning: Explicit Lyrics" on CD covers stopped people from buying...in fact it made people buy more...and she even used Prince as an example...
I guess now we know her hands were not musical to handle his skin flute.

So, this Bachmann chica wants to bann all porn, including those made by husband and wife?
And what happens to the porn that exists? What are her plans to stop people from buying underground?
And will she have people arrested for porn possession?

Furthermore, whether you like it or not, porn is job security for otherwise young women who'd be at the mercy of a pimp. And many women today, due to the job crunch have gone into stripping or porn.

A true conservative (right wing in the true Robespierre sense) would hold our Constitutional rights dear and be for limited government involvement.
As such, I am true "conservative".
Unfortunately, many politicians allow their own religious and moral beliefs to infiltrate their political thinking, even if it flies in the face of their parties' mission statement/core values and does not coincide with the clear and unambiguous language of our Constitution.
Shame on them.

________________________ _______________

Here is a link to the pledge:  http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/The-Family-Leader-Presidential-Pledge.pdf

Here is the actual quote in question:

"Therefore, in any elected or appointed capacity by which I may have the honor of serving our fellow citizens in these United States, I the undersigned do hereby solemny vow to honor and to cherish, to defend and to uphold, the Institution of Marriage as only between one man and one woman.  I vow to do so through my:

. . .

Humane protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy -- our next generation of American children -- from human trafficking, sexual slavery, seduction into promiscuity, and all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innoncence."

This doesn't say anything about banning all porn.    It's a pledge to protect women and children from the porn industry.

Quite true, today's politicians when mentioning the buzzword "conservative" about themselves delve into their religious and personal views, then picture their family. It's basically about pushing one's personal agenda and their own views that is important....

Quite true, today's politicians when mentioning the buzzword "conservative" about themselves delve into their religious and personal views, then picture their family. It's basically about pushing one's personal agenda and their own views that is important....

Fuck this feels like the book 1984

True conservatism can at least be a respectable philosophy, but it is now d-e-a-d.  It has instead morphed into "neoconservatism", which is another name for corporatism/fascism and it is the most fatal thing to ever happen in American politics.  Citizens are being shit upon like never before, and as long as there are lobbyists "working" with our lawmakers, it will only get stronger.  It scares the living hell out of me, it really does.  And to think these motherfuckers are draping themselves in the flag the entire time.

In America, "conservatism" has simply become an empty word.  Just like "left" and "right", which both warp around in a circle to meet at point fascism.  And so-called "neoconservatism" has very little to do with traditional conservatism.  It's like comparing George W. Bush to Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Im of the mindset that WS needs to be moved away from NYC to Washington. Why? Well, when a child misbehaves you either send them to the corner or keep them close by---to slap the shit out 'em if they misbehaved. Also, this Ives the public more, fuck, I forgot the word, it was a buzzword meaning less opaque, but my point is, you can clearly see the ties of WS and Washington...and you know the deal...both can watch each other, whereas the Am public can watch both.

The fact that Obama is ineffective doesn't change that the Bush II presidency was massively damaging to the US and it's people. And his being stupid is merely a smaller indication of the bigger problem the US faces (evinced by the lack of choices for a presidential candidate).

So what has he done to do anything whatsoever to correct the problem?
problems.

plural, not singular.

he has done everything the top economic advisors in washington and on wall street have suggested.. mainly the bail out that prevented us from experiencing an even worse recession.

as for fixing the issue of jobs, he cant really do anything outside of invading every third world country on the planet and enforcing minimum wages, labor laws, enviro restrictions just like we have in the states. or stop all shipments of imported goods into america.  the fact is that producers can make products elsewhere for much much cheaper. and we wont get more jobs untill it makes business sense for companies to come here... or the government intrudes into the private sector and forces it to happen.

on the issue of the deregulation of the lending market, and all markets, obama is always pushing for more oversight and regulations.. but getting that through a conservative house is impossible.

problems with our education. well, he has tried increasing funds for secondary education but the budget is a big issue and  its really a no go right now.

the problems we face are varied and complex. we need to shift our focus in education towards vocational training and away from specialized university prep. we need to start seperating children at an earlier age based on capability. we need to start demanding countries across the world give their people decent wages, enforce eniro restriction, and also ghive them all their human rights.  i could go on for days. but alas im talking to a republican idiot who wont take in any of it

Is that why Obama turns down every budget cut put in front of him. Except military spending that's the only thing he will cut. Democrats refuse to make changes to anything that is important to them. If we want to get the Country back on track we can't spend more money. We have to make major cuts to everything including entitlements. Look what is happening to Greece. There gonna have to default. If we keep up the spending same thing is gonna happen to us. Obama hasn't done a fucken thing to improve the economy. The private sector is the only engine left that has a chance of pulling us out of this recession and he wants to tax that even more and add more regulations. Tbomz you don't know anything about politics. You can't blame Bush anymore it's been two years. He's doing all of the bad things Bush was plus a lot more.

defecit isnt caused by entitlements, those actually help the economy, its caused by a decrease in tax revenues brought on by deregulation ( a conservative talking point), and by excessive military spending (another conservative talking point).

that being said... the defecit means fuck all.  all this hype is political. in reality the worlds resources are not going to change, and neither is our capability to sustain all of our social welfare programs.  the real problem, the real reason why the defecit matters,  lies in the fact that the vast majority of all the money on the planet belongs to a very small percentage of the people and those people are extremely greedy fucks who hoard their wealth when times get rough and only throw scraps to the dogs (the rets of the world) when times are good.

but republicans want to let the rich do as they please, they want to cater to big business, and make our policies based on what they desire. because after all, thats where all the money is. and it makees enough sense...   but once you realize the government has the authority to confiscate excess wealth from those who havent rightfully earned it in order to redistribute it across the masses.. then one sees how futile such a  kowtowing policy is.

American is full of opportunity. Health care, free food, free cell phone minutes, and welfare checks aren't something the founding fathers hand in mind. They're not basic human rights! People need to do things for themselves make something of themselves. My dad came over to this Country when he was 8 couldn't even read he never depended on the government for anything! He owns his own restaurant now makes a lot of money. Why should people like that be punished? You know how many people he employs how many young kids can pay their bills because of him! That's what Americas about my friend. This new health care thing is gonna hurt small business like my fathers. He's gonna have to spend a shitload of money to make sure all of his employees are insured. Obama is not good for the private sector. He hates the private sector.

How does welfare help the economy? By punishing the people that actually work hard and drive the economy. Why should the middle and upper class have to take more of the burden when we already pay 80% of the taxes. It doesn't make sense. The government doesn't create any jobs. Ya maybe a couple thousand the census bums that come around every year and harass you at your home those jobs don't last long they won't sustain our Country.

Why should people who work their asses off to make something of themselves have their money redistibuted to the bums who have been on welfare 3 generations. That's socialism. It never worker it's a failed system. Only way out of this mess it to decrease the size of the Government cut spending. We can't punish people for being above average.

If I had to identify Obama with a political party it would be the Socialist Worker's Party of Spain or the far-left "old Labour" of the UK.
He's a Social Democrat who believes that the state should be in charge because we're just too stupid to take care of ourselves.
He sucked the teet of Marxist leaning Black Liberation theology for over 20 years.

He is a hardcore communist through and through. I read a little known interview with a guy who knew him when he was a student at Occidental college. Back then the guy (who knew him) also had communist beliefs but has since switched sides. He used to discussed politics with him and it was said he was an absolutely hard core marxist. Check it out here

Obama wants to create and expand a social "underclass" that is more dependent on the government to regulate their daily lives. By the development of the "underclass" he widens the social divide and elevates the elite / "ruling class".
Immigration amnesty gives Obama 12+ million new and loyal subjects.
Obama is a hard-core Marxist with a desire to be God.

  No, Bush was the worst:

  - Violated the Geneva convention and was the first American president to low himself to the level of a ruthless banana republic dictator and order the torture of prisoners.

  - Doubled the fiscal deficit with his war spendings, more spending than any Democrat president before or since.

  - Deepened America's involvement in Afghanistan, which was basically an observatory and supportive role, to that of full involvement which resulted in thousands of American soldiers killed and billions of Dollars spent.

  - Invaded Iraq on false pretense, lying to the American people, which resulted in thousands of Amerian soldiers killed and a quarter trillion Dollars spent over the last 8 years. Iraq went from a stable country, although ruled by a ruthless dictator, to a mess that can explode at any time and distabilize the entire Middle East.

  - Opened housing financing lines of credit to people who couldn't ever repay the loans, plunging the U.S into the worst economic crisis since the 1929 crash, which can still evolve into an even worse depression than the one of the 1930s.

  - Is an ignorant and callous man who admitted to have never read a single entire book in his olife and who only got an Ivy League education due to his daddy.

  - Used government money to finance private oil companies that his family had interest in. Classic case of crony capitalism.

Who cares what some ignorant farmers from over 200 years ago had in mind? The World evolved and their ideas were full of prejudices and aristocratic intentions that were anachronistic even for the time. Here is a hint for you: this is not the 18th century.

SUCKMYMUSCLE

Secondly, you dumb bitch, if I were Latino I wouldn't have pulled anything in the 18th century aything since Latinos were never enslaved in the U.S. You racist trailer trash ignorant bitch.

That would be a step up from your former job cleaning the toilets at Port Authority. I used to feel sorry for dudes like you and leave a tip on my way to Jersey.  :(

Now that you're back to being unemployed, living in mom's basement, masturbating three times a day to Bachmann, Palin, and internet porn because you can't get any pussy, you're free to post 100+ times a day (on getbig alone...one staggers to think about how many posts you have on various other websites) in anger and bitterness at a Black man being in the White House. Congratulations, champ!  You're certifiably AWESOME! ::)

Because, as usual, you are making statements out of your anus.

Well than why don't you "point your finger randomly at the screen" RIGHT NOW and show where it provides proof of what I do or don't do for a living? And seriously, I've created SO MANY threads that you can't avoid me? Get real, bird brain.  ::)

Who gives a shit whether I was "banned" on the poli board?  ???  Maybe its because I did not believe in censoring my words, irrespective of the overly sensitive titty baby moderators?
Why don't you ask the moderators there instead of asking me? I could care less.

lol
Bush sure as shit didn't HELP the economy with his policies. But please quote me where I said Bush "caused the collapse of the economy."  ::)

We've been through this before, dodo. Stop begging me for my place of employment.  ::) You don't even have the courage to admit where you are FROM. lol
Where do you live and what is YOUR place of employment where you make your cold calls to old ladies? (not that I really give a damn)

Why do you think I care?  ::) Poor "Tony McNuts."

See, here is how "Tony McNuts" bitterness works. "He's Black...I'm a racist redneck...he can't possibly be educated or have a career in a field that I am struggling to get into! Dammit! I hate this guy!"  ;D

Look Tony, its not my fault you went and got a useless degree in archaeology(oh, brother!  ::) ) and had to move back with mommy and start towards a business degree at age thirty. You chose your route in life and now you have to live with it. I was working on Wall Street by age 24...not making any real money...but in  field I enjoyed and with a B.S. in hand from a good school. Fifteen years and a lot more education later, I'm still in the game, even though it has changed drastically over the last three years. But don't hate me for you life, bro. I know you are racist and all, but sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and get your shit together.  ;)
