You have to hand it to Pete, he made the biggest of the day seem small by comparison.
Pics by himself really don't do the man justice.

The first bodybuilding contest I ever saw featured Pete G and Danny Padilla as guest posers, in Rochester, NY. This was just after Pumping Iron came out, and I was so intrigued with the sport that I went to the Mr. Rochester contest at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.
Watching Danny Padilla and later, Pete G, walk past me on their way to the stage was an experience. Up until then, I never saw human beings that big and muscular! Danny was a show stopper, but Pete had the crowd on the edge of their seats with his posing. One of the songs he posed to was "Everybody's a Winner" by Hot Chocolate, a funk song that was popular at the time.
Pete also did commercials for a local bookstore in the area (I can't recall the name) and would pose with a single biceps shot at the end of the commercial.
What really struck me at the time was that two of the top bodybuilders in the world came from Rochester, where I attended college. Small world.
BTW, Lou Gramm, of the rock group Foreigner, was from the same area in Rochester as Danny Padilla. I worked with Lou's cousin at Xerox Research Labs.
What was so special about Rochester in the late 70's to produce these (and many other) high achievers???

I'd say it is the Garbage Plates, but I don't think they were around then. ::)
In my gym (Rockell's aka Samsons) there is a painting that has both Pete and Danny on it. Obviously done by a local, but kind of cool nonetheless.
-
I jsut emailed this link to Pete. Talked to him for a moment but I was in a movie so couldn't talk. He has a ton of pics himself of things I'm sure no one has seen. Someday I'll get them and scan them. He'll be at the Olympia so look for him and say hi.
-
onlyme,
How is Pete these days, given his health problems not too long ago?

Boy, That brings back memories.
Nick Tahou's was serving garbage plates back then. After spending the night at the Penny Arcade, Nick's was next on the agenda. Pretty rough crowd though!
-
He is doing allot better now. He is expecting a baby soon. He travels allot and spends quite a bit of time in South America and Mexico. He eats very healthy and very regimented. I think he'll be fine. He is a very close friend and I always enjoy talking to him. I am trying to get him to come on here but he isn't to computer wise.
-
Social functioning Pete.
Details at 10.

WOw is that Pete with too much pro tan on.
-
damn, i never realized Pete was so huge, big man.
-
You know you realize but Pete competed at around 265 or so which was huge for back then. Arnold competed at 235. Arnold is slightly taller than Pete. I would love to see a pic of Pete in contest shape next to Arnold at the same time period in contest shape to see the size difference. Next time I talk to him I will see if he has any pics like that
-
Pete was a big man, that's for sure, looks like a big bencher with the pec thickness, i'd match him up against any of today's guys with that chest, seems like the guys back then had a more hard, rugged look about their physiques but real at the same time, todays guys all look the same with different heads.
-
Just some cool pics.
-
:)

:)
-
Kenny those are awesome. Great job. I gave Pete this link so hopefully he'll come on
-
I went drag racing with Pete several times 95 & 96. I'll dig up the photos of Pete and his Alcohol Funny Car. Big fun and Pete was always a blast to hang with.
-
I am looking at a pic with his funny car with him and my daughters in it roght now. I will scan it and put it up. Went to Palmdale Raceway a few times. Tommy we must know each other. I'll say hi to Pete when he calls. I have been trying to get him on here but he can't type.

Rochester born. My Dad hung out with Grymko who was sweet on my Mom. His "Chest/Back" pamphlet was my first bodybuilding course.
By the way, I think the garbage plate WAS around in the 1970s
-
Here is that pic of my daughters and Pete in his Funny Car. I loved it that he would smoke a joint all the way up to when they would lower the body onto the car just before getting set to race. He said it calmed his nerves.
-
When I get home, I'll put up some Grymko quotes from that "Chest/Back" course I have from his back in the 1970s. Some of his observations on building mass are very insightful.
-
Pete G was big and thick.
Looks like well rounded, likeable individual.
What prompted him to hang up posing trunks?
-
more grymko, pre finding the magic bullets.

Which one is Pete. No way either of those guys are him. If so I got to send this to him. Unreal
-
dude was loaded, without to big legs
-
First BB to be involved with specific mag articles on roid use, in Muscle around '77-'78. Hadn't really been touched in any detail prior to that. First mention of GH.
Grymko was Ferrigno's backup as the Hulk; would like to have seen him in a show. Reminds of Dillet re: structure & height.
I would love to see a pic of Pete in contest shape next to Arnold at the same time period in contest shape to see the size difference.
Schwarzenegger had retired, plus Pete never entered the Olympia. Maybe there're some gym pics.

1992. Ken Waller, Corney, Draper, Callard, Grymkowski:

In the competition picture above with the 3 guys which one is Pete. I don't think any of them are him.
-
only me the guy on the left is pete pic is from an old muscle magazine probably md. i not sure but contest might have been mr. rochester or something like that. not 100% on contest.
-
for those to say in sport's or bbing in general that roid's are something that just popped up,this was the seventie's and look at pete's size.it was around to stay long ago......
