Title: Time is precious - fitness choices on which is quicker?
Post by: calfzilla on July 12, 2011, 03:35:36 PM
When I lift weights I tend to do the max ot style of training, short and intense. Not that it is superior but it gets the workout done in shorter time. I have a lot goin on in life and would rather spend 30 min lifting rather than an hour and a half. Same could be said for cardio.

Anyone else make fitness choices based on which is quicker?

I think working out as little as possible is the best, especially for us naturally and that's when progress comes.

like repping out 50 deadlifts and 50 squats and call it a day, perhaps doing 20 reps of biceps later.

I have been lifting for enough years and tried enough different routines to know that they yield pretty much the same results so why not spend as little time as possible in the gym and live your life.

Not a intuitive kind of training but a rather plan in my head (exercises, reps, weights), not much volume but rather quality reps, jug of water so that I don't have to walk to the fountain over and over again, don't wait when someone has 'my' weight or machine but switch to the next one and come back later, not too much socializing (large earphone does the trick).

I can't even remember the last time I planned a workout. Lol. Everything in the gym, since I was 20 or so, has been intuitive.

Regardin' " time ", I am inclined to agree with you. My BEST results ( and I've stuck by them ) come from bein' in the gym as short as possible. Get in, get out. Did legs tonight, in fact. Started my workout around 5 pm and was done around 5:45. Get in, get out, go home, EAT, EAT, EAT, shit, shower, masturbate violently, sleep, and grrrrooowwwwwwwwww. That's what I try to do, anyways.

Greg Oden is serious business. Back off!

I only need one championship from him then he can crumble to pieces like he is good at.

I had a short time today to train. About 35min for a complete heavy back/bi work out.

Band resistant pull ups paired with face pulls - 4 x 10 - 4x12
Double landmine rows paired with close grip pull downs w/thick bar - 4 x 8 - 4 x 10

Standing BB curls - 4 x 8 to 185 x 3

Standing chain curls paired w/ jump band hammer curls - 4 x 10 - 4 x 8

Key obviously is to pair everything up. Complete workout in almost half the time. Even had time for some ab work.

Whether you decide to go heavy/low reps or intense/high reps, I'd say go based on how pumped and fatigued your muscles get. If you concentrate on the muscle with your mind, your form is good, moderate weight to pump as much blood into the tissue, then there's no reason to think if you should workout short or fast. Unless you're in a hurry to go somewhere.

- My 2 cents

Not really...too expensive. Nope, no bamboo bars.
