the financial or otherwise rewards are so fucking small compare to the amount of preparation and dedication and of course money needed to win?
-
powerlifting and strongmen.
pl strongmen and bb are probably the 3 worst endeavours you could possible choose.

yeah okay - I don't know the amount of preparation in regards to drugs and money involved in power lifting but I
would nearly bet it isn't to the same equivalent as a professional or amateur bodybuilder.
Am I wrong?

Competitive eating.

They are on a shitlaod of stuff also (I would guess not the Quantaty of bb's though). and more Harsh stuff since strenght is all they want. Combine that with being 100-200 pounds overweight and Pushing your heart to the limit at every competition/hard training session and you know why they get heartattacks at 30.

Tennis and golf are obviously very lucrative if you get to the top but the initial outlay to begin playing, like purchasing equipment, membership fees, travelling, etc, are ridiculously high to begin with and it is quite difficult to get started, whereas with bodybuilding it can be as cheap as you want to to be - all you need is a gym membership and you're set. The level of commitment, dedication and preparation required to get to the top in my opinion is pretty much the same for all sports. A pro bodybuilder is just as dedicated to their profession as a professional tennis player is and vice versa so that factor shouldn't really come into it.
In the UK, bodybuilding, powerlifting, and strongman are all working class pursuits so people who aren't that well off do tend to gravitate towards them (as well as football of course). Only rich people play tennis and golf.

So....bodybuilding is a sport now?
-
Pageant, not sport.
I like this definition of pageant
A thing that looks impressive or grand, but is actually shallow and empty

It's a hobby and should stay there. Only those who have lost perspective complain about the "cost" of bodybuilding.

Many, many sports.
For example Finnish WC javelin thrower Tero Pitkämäki earned 237 032 euros in the year he were world champion in his sport.
That means he was the best in the world in his sport. Like Jay Cutler is. Jay earns that kind of money almost by just Olympia prize money.
You guys need to realize that there are lots and lots of sports other than big-money-sports football, soccer, golf, baseball, F1, tennis.
Most Olympic athletes earn quite little money.

Y-Rhoads definition is spot on. As much as anyone wants to believe, BB'ibg is not a sport. It might be considered an art form to some or a attempt to correct physical or emotional insecurity's. Take your pick.
