Hammer Strength machines are great but this is my least favorite. Not sure if I am just too much of a pussy but I don't feel like I get shit from this.
Your thoughts on this machine?

I think a gym I use to go to had one
but I've never used it
-
JJ, not a fan of that machine either.
-
Yeah, it just doesn't feel like a natural movement to me.
-
Leg curl "machines" suck. You shouldn't isolate lower body. (Unless you're one of those "bodybuilders") :))

Ok, so besides RDL, whats some great ways of building hamstrings?

They have some good machines, but many of the are ergonomically so fucking weird, that you must have body structure of the gibbon to use them efficiently. This is great example of those. This machine is hopeless piece of shit and where it is, no one uses it because it is so bad. You simply cant get good range of motion with it, no stretch at all. Another good example is their seated calf rise:
If you look at the padded support which you put on your thighs while you are pressing weight with your calves, how you can use it in that angle? In that position it looks good, but when you use it, it tilt forward so it turns edge of the pad towards your thighs. Only way to use it is put it against your kneecaps, and then you have that angle as it should be, but how you can lift serious amount of weight with your kneecaps? Similar machine from another brand is made differently, you have wide well padded support resting on your thighs and there is no problem what so ever. I don't say it is easy to make ergonomically correct gym machines, because it isn't, but how about to fix existing flaws in your products? That would be nice, while these machines cost lot of money.

We have this machine in the gym i go to. Great machine if you ask me. Its almost like a "free weight" leg curl..doesnt have any bands or cables.
I do one leg at a time because its hard to stabilize yourself when doing both legs simulateously

That is THE worst piece of equipment i've ever used. In fact all hammer strength equipment for lower body is utter shite. I train for function nowadays but I still like doing leg curls every now and then.
-
I've used this machine with good results. However, I find that I use less weight when using this machine than I do with others, such as Nautilus leg curls. One positive is that by doing one leg at a time, ones stronger leg does do the bulk of the work so the end result is more even development.

You'd be better off doing seated leg curls with strength bands. In fact for you hammer strength equipment freaks try adding bands to the incline press or any of their other shit. The movment should be harder at the top where you're stronger this is where most machines fail.

I like doing reverse hack squats (face in to the pad) on a hack squat machine. This not only develops your hams but also involves you glutes without compromising your back in anyway. Be sure to stick your butt out when squatting. It is an extremely satisfying exercise. I can really pile on the plates on this. I work up to 10 reps with about 500 lbs currently. There is no way I could do regular squats with this much weight and these many reps....my knees or my back would give out.

Oiling up bending over and pulling ass cheeks open for old perverted BB's named Bill - coach call's this "posing practice"

Well, is that for over-all hamstring development.....or for creating more "peak" to the hammies?
-
This machine is gay..the honey badger would never use it.

here is a good question: what is in your opinion, the best exercise to build legs size for a persone with long limbs and short torso
Christian Thibodeau wrote in an article that leg press, hack squat and leg exstension would target the quads more than squats. (I might be wrong but pretty sure he said that)

Isn't this obvious? ;[. If they made a standing leg extension machine, all you would need is that and the sitting kid. WHen you're sitting, at least one of your quads is in inactive insufficiency. Forget the name of this muscle but it is a quadricep and the longest muscle in ur body. Whatever leg muscle goes over your hip as well as your knee will be in some kind of insufficiency when sitting or standing, so if you have both a sitting and standing version of either leg or ext, these are all you need to exercise ur legs. Coach is gonna tell u squats

squats just make my ass huge
-
way too much bounce in that machine.... sucks , same with the leg extention one

Stiff leg deads are much more effective.

The sartorius muscle is not one of the quadriceps. Rectus femorus, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedialis, and vastus medialis are the quadriceps. As far as it being in an insufficiency, its because its primary action is not hip flexion or lower leg extention.

I never did even 1 rep of those, way to hard I can only do negatives
-
Layne Norton does like 7-8 complete reps, that's fucking impressive
-
Do people who "train for function" just carry bags of groceries up the stairs, push a loaded wheel-barrow and hang from the gutter with one arm as they clean with the other.....to get a workout?
Because whipping ropes, doing lunges on a swiss-ball and one arm db presses are really not things I need to do to be "functional."

Yeah but they make people like coach look smart to pea brained clients.

Yes...that's right (oh brother).

I really don't blame Coach or the guys he trains, as most likely some of the stuff they do does translate as they are athletes.... I'm talking more about the avg douche. I think most just use it as an excuse because they can't put on any size, give up and start that shit training.
-
.
While GHR's are one of the best things for strength training, I don't think they are ideal for a bodybuilder trying to build huge hamstrings.

I agree hangclean. But to add resistance we'll add jump bands for strenght and growth.

The routine I am doing now for hams calls for this exercise. Unfortunately, the gym I belong to doesn't have this equipment, so I never tried them. I should ask them to get one. They cannot be that expensive. A lot of their more elaborate machines surely cost a lot more. I am always up for something new. I bore easily.

You can do a variation of them on the lat pulldown. Face the opposite direction, hook your calves under where you knees would normally go, knees on the seat, then lower yourself to a swiss ball. If you don't have the strength to do a positive rep yet, you can push off the ball to get back up.
-
You know if you put the pads where that guys has them in the picture, they are a lot easier than most people here let on... if you put the fulcrum at your knees, the lever arm becomes your entire torso + legs which, true, is very difficult. but put the pad on your thighs, near your hips, and the load becomes a lot more manageable.

Thanks. I'll give this a try sometime when no one is looking. LOL.
