Ok so my vacation is over. I did my cut and achieved pretty much what I wanted from my summer. Now it's time to try to gain a bit more size, preferably mostly lean muscle and minimal fat gain.
What is the consensus on getbig; should you eat to a decent caloric surplus with supposedly 'healthy', 'varied', 'clean' and nutrient dense food OR can I eat ice cream and pizza etc everyday as long as I get adequate protein base and adequate nutritional needs?
(Caloric surplus is the same in numbers in both cases.)
Give me a clear cut answer ;)

Depends on other "variables". What type of needles do you plan to buy (or not)?

thread title should have given away no needles.
i'm considering food as the base and supplements as the side, mainly protein powder and perhaps creatine. (have some zma and the pre-workout blend hemorage although I don't really feel the effects of these...)

I don't know if my opinion is of value here but I've always been natural and by my experience, I'd say: don't overdo the protein intake (max. 2grams per kilo of bodyweight a day should be more than enough- try to split in in 4 or 5 takes). Don't underestimate lipids. Then I guess it will depend on your metabolism: some need a pretty high dose of carbs to put on mass and some others will actually get better results with low carbs. I never could really figure that out. But to me, low carbs worked better and eating 4-5 times a day smaller portions also worked better. Train heavy if you can. I never saw a natural doing good with lots of volume. Then it's just what I witnessed.

For a natural, you can't separate one from the other. But mesomorph posting that is pretty funny.

Slowly increase your food intake. Eat mostly good foods with some cheat foods every now and then. Start off slowly and see what your body lets you get away with. Some people can eat junk daily and stay lean - others can't. Just increase the amounts of food you are eating currently. Don't overdo the protein intake.

its of value! more so than juicersī.
i think i gain best with a moderate intake of carbs. also feel stronger and harder when avoiding salt, sugar, fast carbs and excess fat too. im an ecto but if i really stuff my face, even with hard traning, i gain more on midsection than limbs, so never want to do that again.

I've tried both ways and it's common sense - eating good, clean, healthy food wins out every time.
You'll look and feel better, your sleep will be good, and you'll recover better from workouts without feeling lethargic during them or bloated between them. Nothing wrong with having a few cheat meals thrown in for good measure to give your mind a mental release and somethign to look forward to, but make it the exception and not the rule.
My permabulking days eating McDonalds, KFC, and fatty and refined sugar-laden foods are a thing of the past.

I dont see how sugar and salt could make you weaker if anything it should make you stronger mabey not look better but the more you eat the stronger you will be all other factors being equal fuck some of the strongest men in the world have been built off of milk and pastries lol and icecream and junk food in general how do you think elite powerlifters keep there weight up ? two words little debbies

idk if i eat sugar and sugary, sweet stuff i get all clouded mentally and feel overloaded. same with too much fat and salty calorie dense food.
conversely I feel most awake and clear when i eat less and feel a little hungry all the time.
guess its more mental.
