Anyone own any or "shop" them?
Curious as I am interested on purchasing own at some point.
ANyone with experience with them on here?
-
owned a couple,,,you wont find parts for them its hard I sold mine off only 400 bucks I had 3 of them,,,
-
Kinda what i was wondering. I do see parts on the internet all over the place though.
-
Haunted House and Superman were two of my favorite pinball machines. :D
-
Bay: Nice Haunted House. Did you own one at one time? Hard to maintain? Did it breakdown a lot?
-
Never owned it, but when I was a kid I worked at an ice cream parlor and we had a couple dozen video games and pinball machines. HH was a favorite and I played it often. You may recall that it had three levels and though it didn’t happen to the one we had, I could see it needing repair and service often.

bay already liked to play with balls on a early age

it's called nostalgia; a need to re-live good times of your childhood cause you have no recent memory of such a good time lately as an adult. It often leads to bad, stupid, immature ideas like..acquiring a pinball...until you figure that's just retarded and wonder why there's a pinball in your living room.
Grow up and deal with it. Maybe you should focus on something more important in life, instead of wanting to go back into childhood. I guess there are things that scare you and you dont want to face at the moment, hence the need to reassure yourself. But we all have to mature.

coltane, I have owned several. None in the past few years. There used to be an arcade auction 3x a year in my town and I would go early, play them, then find ones that just needs a solenoid or two. Stay around for several hours and pick up machines for @ $100 once the mom and pops businesses got tired and left. Easy to fix. Mostly just replacing or repairing solenoids, bulbs, and bumper rubbers. I always made sure the playing field was not worn though. And I put 4-5 coats of wax on it. I would buy all my parts at the local arcade service shop. IM me if you buy one and you need some help on getting some things working on one.

Awesome. That's gymrat. I'm dying to buy one, but just am nervous about the repairs. I'm fairly handy, etc, but after watching some youtube vids on shopping games, they look rather difficult to take apart. Parts seems to be all over the internet and readily available.
I'd love to have 4 or 5 nice pins someday in a game room. Just cool items I think.

Google "arcade auction (your city)" and see if any are coming. You have to invest in several hours at the auction but you can get some for practically nothing. I would bring an extension cord, get there @ 1 1/2 hrs early and check them out. Take notes on what is wrong with which one. If it starts, scores and displays you can fix just about anything else. Just take your time. Normally there are duplicates of the machine you want. The one that would go off early in the auction would go (for example) @ $400 +, but if a duplicate goes off in the last couple hours of the auction you would get it for 50-75% less. Happened everytime. The mom and pop businessess and the general public would fight it out and be broke 1/2 through. Keep me posted and yell if I can help.

thanks. I was comtemplating buying one from a vender, but the shipping charges were like $300 bucks. Machine was fully shopped etc, but I don't know the company, ya know? Just risky. It was an earthshaker by Williams. $1750 plus 300 shipping.

Wow that's a chunk of change. IM me your location if you are in the states and I can let you know if you have any auctions coming up. The auctions here in Indy dried up for this year. >:(

I currently own a Dr. Who Anniversary Edition, released in 1994.
Awesome game.
It needs one repair now, as something is slightly wrong with it, but I have a guy that services many of the pinball machines for the Jersey Shore boardwalk arcades. He has become invaluable.

This is what i'm nervous about.. trying to find someone to repair it if it breaks down. I would try it myself, but knowing my luck i'd get the thing apart and not be able to piece it back together.
Check out youtube and the "pinball machine shop" vids where owners take them apart to clean and repair. Fascinating how they do it. Really, watch some of these. Really cool stuff.

i thought it was pretty funny ;D

I love Pinball and have access to some great machines at a friends and a local "arcade museum".
Restoring them is of course part of the game and fun.
I have at least 20 machines that I would love to own... For the time being I started building a virtual/visual pinball machine wiht a 46" TV as playfield. It is obviously not the same, but the current level of emulation comes pretty close. Search on youtube.

I've seen those vids. Is that virtual table yours on you tube?
There is a cool video game for Wii and ps3 that has some of the old williams tables on it.

I haven't posted vids of mine, but mine is a replica of 46'' cabs you find there along with all those toys (flashers, Leds, shakers..) that make the experience more real.
Talking about youtube pinball porn, I highly recommend the reviews of Chris Bucci/ spida1a for those who are tired of jerking off to men in thongs.

Hysterical. I watched him last night talking about his different pins. Has a great collection and actually is from the same area I am (well, give or take 150 miles).

First, no one posting on a bodybuilding board has the credibility to tell someone else to “focus on something more important in life.” Looking at men in thongs is not exactly a respectable or productive hobby.
Second, having a pinball machine in your basement, rec room, or garage can be a great way to bring back some childhood fun and create new memories with your own kids, many of who (and their friends) may be unfamiliar with pinball machines.
A few years ago, I thought about buying a Ms PacMan/Galaga Tabletop combo machine, but it was only two games in one machine. If I could buy such a machine that was a combination of ALL the machines I used to play as a kid, I would definitely buy it. Since such a machine was not available, I settled for MAME on my computer which gives me ALL the games I used to play including all the original screens, sounds, levels, etc. And all MAME cost me was a 10 second download. 8)

The MAME's are great, but you should get the real thing. Galaga man!! GALAGA!!!!
-
With MAME you can get all the different versions of Galaga (and tons of other games) for the price of a ROM download!
-
I know. Cool also.
I've been shopping around on craiglist. Gonna buy a pin for around $800 and refurbish it (shop it)

That sounds pretty generic. Are you shopping for a specific theme/machine (which one?) or will you buy just any old pinball? ???
-
I have a few I'd like to snag. Mostly early 90's williams models. It depends on what craiglist has at the time. I'm not just grabbing the first one, no.
Most of these tables one can buy cheap and fix up. Changing the bulbs is cake and so is the breaking down of the machine to clean. They're super cool all cleaned up and in a game room i think.

Hey guys! Purchasing a Williams GORGAR machine this weekend. Machine is in great shape from what i'm told and i'm getting it for $600!!!!!!! CHEAP!
Pretty excited! Hopefully it'll fit in my suv with the backbox folded down! Picking it up sunday
-
No one can accuse you of not being a hardcore fan. Congratulations! Let’s see some photos when you have it up and running. I take it GORGAR is a machine you used to play a lot as a kid? ???

I've played it before. It's old school, circa late 70's and the first speaking machine. I got a great deal on it and it has a good resale value down the road. PLUS there are videos on shopping it on youtube. Sounded like a good first machine to tinker with.
-
You have yet to receive it but you are already thinking about resale value? Why? Obviously, this is an indulgence not a necessity. Why are you thinking about resale value on such an item?

I have an old game plan coney island machine. Needs a new MPU-2 board.

I thinking that when I get sick of playing it and wanna upgrade to something better, it'll be worth something.

PIP: nice looking machine! Super nice cab.

Huh? If you feel that way, why not just lease it? There are companies (at least there used to be) that would rent out pinball machines or video arcade games for months or years at a time. I know this because when I was a soda jerk we had a couple dozen machines in the store and they were all pretty much rentals.

Dude, relax. I want to buy an older game that I can tinker with etc. and learn the repair side. One of the things I contemplated was resale. Relax.
