Clean and Pressing your best squat-
[ Invalid YouTube link ] .
.
Rare to see training footage of him, still America's best presser after all these years.
-
Impressive...brute power versus technique.
-
Back when weightlifters were strong, oh my god hahahaahaha. You just can't make this shit up. You know why American weightlifters aren't strong anymore? Because all the nerds uuh and aah the perfect 100 kg clean and when they see an imperfect 200 kg clean they disregard it, because weightlifting is a technique sport. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

How much did Patera front squat? Did he break 300 kg? Did he deadlift even 400 kg? All upper body this Patera, seems like. Here is Chemerkin. A man.

These were the lifts he was credited with offically and in the gym. The Bench is low, but he hated the lift, and thought it useless. I've seen power meet results from his youth, and he was around #1900 for a total. I'd give him maybe #2200-2300 in his prime.
I use to think that coaching and lack of athletes was an American problem, but I'm changing my mind on that. I still think we don't get as many good lifters as we should, but that's expected. Most with physical talent would rather into the money sports. Can't fault them for that. Also we can't drug as well as we use to:(, yes I would've laughed and dismissed that thought a few years ago too, but I recently saw drug testing logs from a few US hopefuls, some of those guys were being strictly tested 8 times a year. That's rough going.
Say what you want, but for the era he competed in, Patera (and many other U.S. guys) were top level competition.

I acknowledge that. Patera was very strong. Kudos to him. I was just trying to make a point. Eh.

ken was a bit stiff should have tried powerlifting.
-
Yes, stiffness and injury were always his weak points.
He did do one power meet when he was young, I remember a mid 1800's raw total being posted for him. I think if he stayed with it, he might of ended in the #2200 - 2300 range, but he hated to flat bench.
I heard a interview with him a bit back, hard working guy, wrestling and weightlifting left him with no real money. Bought a gym and was a on the road salesman for many years, he was still doing the salesman thing as of a few years ago. Very good to his kids, he bought them houses as gifts, and was quite fond of dogs as I remember.
Mentioned that as he got older, the steroid use scared him. Said the British Bulldog's and Big John Studd's use was tremendous, he was in awe.

Yep, McDonalds didn't stand a chance.
-
Yes, best not to bother Ken when he's having a Big Mac attack.

the cleanest pleasure is having sex an underaged girl

Impressive. Savickas has the WSM record in the log press at 485#. Ken put that up pretty easy.
-

got this video . was fine . . ken against bob backlund pedro morales and andre the giant . were great matches . also . a couple of others .
-
Ken won the Pan - Am games, lots of American competitions, and took 2nd at the WWC, but bombed out at the 1972 Olympics.
72 had a great class of lifters in it. Injury, partying, and the terrorism (US teams were in the same general area as the Israelis, and were friendly with them) kept Ken from really showing his stuff.
Visions of Eight was a nice documentary on the games -
.
1972 was the first use of bumper plates and the last use of the Press in the Olympics too.
-
good analysis . yes .
