Title: Not political, but want to ask here - Banks, Foreclosure

With these millions of abandoned homes that are completely deteriorating into nothing, and bringing down everyone's property value.  Why don't banks just leave these families in the homes until they sell, at least someone would be there to maintain the property and keep people from coming in and taking all the copper.

These loans all sit on their balance sheets and they just can't write them all off or down without collapsing their capital reserves which are required by law.  When they write off x dollars from one loan, it comes off their capital reserves. 

Its a little more complicated than you think.

No, I understand all that.  I just don't understand why they need to evict them.  Seems like the Sheriff and Banks could turn a blind eye, and let the people squat until the property sold?

The banks, surrounding property owners and families would be better off.
