ACH, I've eaten at most of the finer steak houses in the So Cal area but I never saw a $160 steak on the menu.

Could it have been Kobe Beef or are you simply referring to the total bill for a dinner for two?

I recently ordered KOBE BEEF at a LV restaurant but it was an imposter, so I complained and got the bill reduced accordingly.

Happy Birthday!

To you also, GRANT!

Stuntmovie, the steak alone was about $160 (156 to be exact), it was Washu beef, restaurant is Nobu , here is the site:  www.noburestaurants.com/san-diego/experience/introduction/

You had to order a minimum of 4 oz which was $104 and I just got 6 oz,  with everything else, entire bill for me and my wife came out to 242, pricey but it was worth it!

Never eaten at a SoCal steakhouse, but I've had a bunch in NorCal and I have yet to see a $160 steak on the menu. Most expensive I've seen is the Kobe Beef Filet Mignon but that wasn't even that expensive.

My favorite steak I've ever had, though, was Ruth's Chris Kobe Beef NY Steak. $65. I prefer my steaks with less fat though, hence the NY over the Filet, which is completely backwards compared to most.

Youngblood, I have often heard that the so called KOBE BEEF served here in the US  is not at all as great as the Kobe Beef served in Japan.

The last time I had Kobe in Japan the chef would come out from the kitchen and explain in somewhat detailed but broken English the process a 'cow' goes through to be declared "KOBE BEEF" in Japan.

That Kobe cow gets massaged continuously and fed the finest grains and is force fed with lots of beer ... among other interesting info.

But I have been told that here in the states the cow undergoes a very different 'process' and is often referred to as "Semi Kobe" which I think the US restaurants have to tell you if you happen to ask.

I'll try the Ruth Chris Kobe steak if I can find one open here in LV. The one on West Flamingo closed recently but I I believe their second location is still serving great meals.

Right now one of the best places to get a decent steak dinner is in the Ellis Island Casino .... served daily (24/7) with a large glass of ice cold beer, a decent salad, a potato of your choice, and string beans for a price of $7.99...

But you gotta ask because it ain't on the menu. Just say, "I'll have the Steak Special, please!" and then answer all the server's questions so it comes to your table just the way you like it.

A great place to have a great meal for you Olympia critters.

ACH, ahhh..Nobu... that explains the high price. Here in LV Nobu is located in the Hard Rock Hotel Casino and here a small part of their menu ....

IMPORTED KOBE "STYLE" BEEF SPECIAL
CHOICE OF STYLES
$28 per ounce
Tataki   New Style   Toban   Steak

I have no idea what Kobe 'Style' means, but it just might identify it as something different than the Kobe Beef served in Japan.

Yup, it was at the Hard Rock here in San Diego too!  They said that beef came from Australia!

Presentation was pretty awesome too, they cooked it right there at the table, setting it on fire, was pretty cool!

Tonight the wife and I had Italian at Coronado, downed a 14oz Veal Milanese, was excellent!
