Here's my problem with Levrone...his back double wasnt as good as Ronnie, Flex, Shawn. His physique was not aestetically please as the aforementioned. He was never as good as Ronnie oo Flex as will always be that guy that can win if someone else is off.... Never been a fan.

Many including myself and gh15 think Levrone was better then Flex, both at their peak, I think a 96 Arnold Class Levrone would smash a 93 Olympia Flex :P

Levrone had a WIDE waist. conditioning wise he was "off" a lot more times than he was on.
Rarely came in with peeled glutes.

this is a great shot because it embodies what bb should be...confidence without arrogance...poise...he knows he looks astounding, and it comes through in how he carries himself.

i dont think AC 96 was levrone's very best.. paul dillett saw him off on that day lol.. sure paul was saying this because he was angry but still i think levrone's had some better shows like mr. olympia 95.. levrone himself complained that the lighting was bad on that day (AC 96)!!.. his best ever condition i think was at mr. olympia 92 but was a little small to consider it his best overall version!!..

if anybody was overrated it was Flex and shawn
flex was aesthetic but looked weak, Mr. Levrone had the best combo look of power and aesthetics
flex also had a thin chest and i hate that gap between his quad muscle and knee
shawn was too short and stalky and only competed once a year, making it easier for him to peak, he had no business beating flex, nasser, dillet, cormier when they were in decent shape
as for my favorite MARYLAND MUSCLE MACHINE, i prefer his amateur look when he was about 23
imagine being a college student looking like this :o :o :o :o

Yep, he was holding a fair bit of water in the 96 AC and should've lost to Flex. He was in much better shape in the 92 Olympia and to a lesser extent, in the 94, 95 & 98 Olympia, the 94 AC and all of the 97 GP shows.
K Lo looked damn impressive at his best, but his biceps and BDB were so-so. Flex vs Kevin = apples and oranges.

The mid 80s to early 90s in bodybuilding was the same as the situation now - a few good pros here and there, but the field in general not as impressive as the guys from Arnold's era or from Dorian's time. Which is why I think it will get better again in a few years, since the trend seems to be cyclical like most things.

... Levrone looks pretty sick in fotos but having met him a few times in person ... he is not an imposing figure at all. not nearly as wide as he looks in fotos either. great physique, but not a monster. pretty short. 5'7"-5'8" at best.

Sure, anyone can diet ... but only a select few can look truly impressive and imposing when dieted down. That's what I'm saying. If you're a smaller guy, it's very hard to stand next to bigger guys. Only a select few like Palumbo, Gaspari, Labrada, etc. could be so small and look so good.

It won't be like the 90s again, without the internet and only the mags to feed you what little news there is. That made things interesting and you could look forward to what was going to happen next. But with so much stuff online in terms of content (pics, vids, posts etc) and us endlessly discussing the same shit daily, it is going to get stale. Familiarity breeds contempt.
I think bodybuilding could go in another, parallel direction and be just as good/interesting if the pool of talent improves and the judging criteria changes to penalize things like guts and Synthol.
The guys have levelled out in terms of what mass they can add with all the drugs and training info out there. So unless something new comes along, like gene therapy, I think we might have the bodybuilders trying to be the best they can be with what they can achieve, viz. being 240-260 cut on the 5'9" and below guys, and maybe 10-20 lb heavier for the taller guys.

I understand that based on the number of contests he won and the size and muscularity of his physique etc etc that he is the greatest. On that basis, I can't argue at all.
But to me, the fact his physique got worse each year means that he wasn't the best bodybuilder ever. A bodybuilder who doesn't understand how to craft his physique is to me, nothing more than a beefhead. Ronnie packed on the mass and it may have given him titles but it ruined his physique.
On that basis, guys like Zane and Ray are light years ahead of Ronnie.
