Title: Quads training, meltdowns to follow
Post by: Stavios on September 13, 2011, 12:04:20 PM
If I do 10 sets of legs extension, or if I do 10 sets of Squats, my quads look and grow better doing the 10 sets of legs extension

If you really hate squats, try to do the set as fast as possible. Just bang them out and rack the weight.

Never stand their with the weight on your back, sucking air. Those experiences can really turn you off the exercise

Stav, you know how it is bro... break down the muscle whichever way works best for you, take the hormones you need, eat the food, sleep, and watch them grow.  Squats are great, sure, but if you're getting more out of leg extensions than that's great, keep doing them!

I love it.

talking about shit, here's another thing:

When I train calves and my calves are real pumped, it makes me want to take a shit.
I think my calves are related to my ass from a nerve or something

it's like they belong together

My leg routine includes incline sit ups after leg extensions because leg extensions ignore the quads that flex the hip, they are in inactive insufficiency, and sit ups take care of the, then I hit the hack squat. Also leg extensions are really hard on the tendon for me

the good thing about leg extension is that you wont slip during a rainy getting into your car and miss the Mr Olympia

My glutes used to get more sore after squats than my quads would.

I switched things up by doing leg extensions before squats to pre-exhaust the quads, and I dropped the weight a lot on squats (I used to try to go as heavy as possible and wasn't going very deep and legs would wobble a bit), and after taking off about 150 lbs from the bar (and doing extensions first), squatting deeper without bending forward too much, my glutes dont' really get sore much from them anymore.

I don't like hack squats, I feel the angle isn't natural...feels weird on my spine.

Translation = I can't fullsquat 3 plates to save my life. Speaking of small quads and giant asses, 1 you have and the other you are.   ;D

Ive found that going "vertical" on squats...not leaning forward works your quads better but you have to drop some weight.

Yes pre-exaust is very good too.

some get big quads some dont, not about the training...like some get great chest and weak shoulders, and some get great shoulders and weak chest...

U can fix it with hormons in your body, but without it its hard. U have to accept they way u look...i guess There isent a magic exercise that will make an already trained muscle just start to grow after some years of training. Im talking natural training.

With hormons its another story...

I have the same problem, good quad but a gigantic ass, I switched to pre exhausting quad with extensions then heavy leg presses. Occasionally heavy front squats on smith machine.

then do something else. squats can be great for quads...but for many people they suck as a quad builder (not good structure for squats/injuries/crap technique etc etc).

so do leg presses  + leg ext....and maybe finish off with a couple 12-15 rep sets on squats

don't fucking ruin your knees tho. don't go too heavy on leg ext

trevor smith and his beyond failure crap is just an injury waiting to happen. same thing as dogshit training.

You don't have to squat esp. if you feel it's just making your butt bigger, but for a lot of people they do work.

You ever try front squats, Stavios? They hit your quads a lot more.

I wrap them up tight, and I don't go as heavy anymore

I do it the trevor way but I do it in a way that I can't use that heavy. I do it more in a controlled manner

As long as the exercises you do get the results you want, it doesn't matter in the least what exercises or sets/reps you're doing.

when I was a tiny tits I was doing them holding the part like you do in a clean and jerk, I liked it

not I can't, I  have to cross my arms and I hate it doing it this way

I prefer hack squats than front squats

no no..none of that wrapping up shit...it's gonna hurt you in the long run. wrapping up is powerlifting.

use weights you can handle without wrapping up your knees

you will grow better too if you stop that crap

6-8 quick sets of leg ext...reps 12-25...short rest between sets so you don't have to use maximal weights and work up a good pump then onto leg press and/or squats

i don't give a shit...it's abuse in any case. but that's up to him. but in regards to training...wrapping up is shit. you will pay for it in the long run. just use weights you can control without crap like that.

8 sets of leg press, 20-25 reps + 10-12 sets leg extension around 12 very slow reps+ 10-12 leg curls 12 very slow reps too.. thats how i do legs, getting good results

Stavios are you wrapping in the leg extensions? ...hmm i think its useless and counterproductive..perso naly cant feel the muscle working well when I wrap.

Its like giving you a "push" and I consider wrapping a "cheat" I can always move more weight on squats when I wrap....no wonder all those fatass "powerlifters" wrap themselves up like mummies.  :D ;D

it also fucks up the knees and can actually make them weaker...joints and all the rest of the shit that stabilizes the muscle

leave it to powerlifters who are looking to move weights from a to b.
