Perhaps you should remind your "friend" that the Olympia is in Vegas, not LA.....
God , youre a retard

Perhaps you should remind your "friend" that the Olympia is in Vegas, not LA.....
God , youre a retard

Gene you need to post more often. Have you been busy at work or something?

-
no youre a retard-he went to cali days before the olympia then ...get ready...can u handle it...he also went to vegas!!!
BOOOOM chickky just got owned
-
The front row seats were empty. Kind of weird, considering its supposed to be the superbowl of bodybuilding.
-

Yeah...that makes a lot of sense, retard....so your friend spent money for tickets, then left when the men started (which was the beginning of the show)??
Left after the National Anthem..?
-
work and family have been keeping me busy
how about u?
I'm fine gene, busy at work too but I'm still making time to look at men in thongs here on getbig.
-
Yeah...that makes a lot of sense, retard....so your friend spent money for tickets, then left when the men started (which was the beginning of the show)??
Left after the National Anthem..?
makes a lot of sense to me you bumbling geezer...he did what he wanted---money is no issue for him
-
The front row seats were empty. Kind of weird, considering its supposed to be the superbowl of bodybuilding.
The front row is reserved seating for guests of the Olympia...you cant purchase a ticket to sit there.
-

so where were the guests? Do you mean guests of the people competing?
-

Apparently, he's a remedial retard like yourself...makes sense to me.
-
so where were the guests? Do you mean guests of the people competing?
No...officials, supp company CEO's, etc...they come in and out, sometimes dont show, etc..
-
God , youre a retard
What's with the name calling? You've been doing a lot of that lately. Are you under lot of stress?
-
Bob are you using Tom Prince for your contest prep again? And will you be doing a weekly video like you did for war for the worlds?
-
Chick, you should take some kind of public speaking class, you mumbled alot while looking at your feet.
-
look. it's cool to have chick posting here. cut the mouthing off to him just to impress other keyboard warriors with your "mouthing someone important" abilities. ::)
-
Chick, you should take some kind of public speaking class, you mumbled alot while looking at your feet.
If Kegdrainer was there he would walk right up to Chicks face and tell him those exact words in person and then watch as Chick nervously fidgeted and self consciously looked straight down at his feet.
-
bob, did you by any chance talk to Joe Weider at the olympia? How is he?

"Perhaps you should remind your "friend" that the Olympia is in Vegas, not LA....." The firehouse was closed lol hahahaha
-
"The olympia was so boring. we left as the men started. there was no one in the audience and bob sucked so bad. the expo was cool. the firehouse was closed. the staff at golds were assholes.
Your friend is a liar and a jerk. Or this is made up. The Olympia was NOT boring at all. The show began with the men after the National Athem was played, and more and more people came in as the contest finals were on. As for the Firehouse, closed? So he 'left' the Orleans Arena, and drove 280 miles to the Firehouse, to find out it was closed at 11:30 at night. Yeah... idiot.
As for no one in the audience, get real. I estimate there were approx 7,000 people in the arena.
The front row seats were empty. Kind of weird, considering its supposed to be the superbowl of bodybuilding. so where were the guests? Do you mean guests of the people competing?
They were NOT empty at all. The first row is designated for top sponsors, and special VIP people. Rob Wilkins graciously let me sit in one of his seats in that first row for part of the evening (watching the top 10, and getting pictures from a different angle), and not ONE seat was empty then. All of the rows were full. Branch Warren, Kim Oddo, Nicole Wilkins, Rich Gaspari all sat in the second row. In the first row in the middle sat Bob Lorimer, Rafael Santonja, and many others. Yes, they would go backstage at various times to say hello, and to the Green Room backstage (Yes, there is a Green Room) where Joe and Betty Weider were to greet them.
bob, did you by any chance talk to Joe Weider at the olympia? How is he?
Joe took quite a few pictures backstage with a number of the athletes. It was an honour to be able to say hello to him again, and take some of the pics!
-
it must've been like heaven for schmoes though..........
-
Maybe they tried to go to an actual firehouse, to meet the heroic studs.
-
Ron I disagree with the thread title change. I support your disagreement that the pageant was boring, but Genes friend has a right to his opinion and gene has a right to post it here.
-
He was probably talking about the Friday night.
What time did the fucking prejudging start that was a joke!
-
First row is schmoe heaven ;D
-
Yeah...that makes a lot of sense, retard....so your friend spent money for tickets, then left when the men started (which was the beginning of the show)??
Left after the National Anthem..?
Oh dear god!
-
The national anthem of america ???
-
Chick, you should take some kind of public speaking class, you mumbled alot while looking at your feet.
uh, yeah.......ok.
-
The national anthem of america ???
i was just asking because it is an event of multiple competing countries and their guests, not a local competiton...
seems weird that the american anthem would be played.
does that make sense?
-

the show is here, in America...much like the superbowl, or world series....thus the reasoning

Superbowl, totally international. ::) ::)
Not really the point here, is it?
The show is HOSTED here....perhaps you think we should play the Anthems of the 20+ countries that the athletes represented?....we would still be there getting the show going.

No, nothing against the anthem, I couldn't give a flying fuck about that, but YOU were the one mentioning the Super Bowl after the internationality of the Mr O was brought up.
Surely the question why the anthem was played is dumb enough, you Americans play your anthem all the time, i wonder how many of you salute and sing it after shitting in the morning.
-

What we do with our anthem is none of your business. I`d personally like to hear it everyday. The House I own was built for the Granddaughter of Francis Scott Key, the author of the National Anthem. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and composed.

q.e.d.
And yes, it is a beautiful anthem.
-
At the world series or any baseball game (or any NHL game) where there are Canadian and American teams playing, they play both anthems.
-
the show is here, in America...much like the superbowl, or world series....thus the reasoning
totally understandable at an event where it is "america only".
its not a diss on the "american anthem" just that it seems out of place. leave it out, i think.
multiple country "sporting event" with its guests from around the world....then comes the american anthem solely cause the location is in america?
dunno...each to their own..
-

Complete travesty.
-
I don't get why sports should be so closely linked with "patriotism".
Dumb flock of sheep.
-
It used to be the Olympia was the pinnacle of the sport. The absolute zenith of bodybuilding. Now, after watching the reigning Mr. Olympia showing up looking like a train wreck and partying in nightclubs afterwarfs, and the title being given to a guy that's been lifting weights for 5 years and is absolutely bloated on drugs and oil, has the contest lost some of it's lustre? Is The Arnold now the Main Event? Does a Phil Heath Mr O reign signal the death of how we view The Olympia?
-
You've lost your prestige.
-
actually, there is something seriously wrong at the NPC level. look at the guys getting pro cards. there are no more stars and gems. outside of kai, phil was an easy call to become mr o. and most of us knew they would never let kai win it. he can win all arnolds he wants but no o. that being said, this slim fuck could be mr o for along time.
the only two guys on the horizon are kulco and evan, and i don't see either one taking their physique to the next level to beat phil.
sad state at this moment in the ifbb, that phil heath is that much better than the rest. we're talking a glorified dexter here, not a new wave coleman, haney or yates.
was jay a great mr o? this fuck got knocked twice. so, how great is phil given he knocked a guy little bitty dex handley beat?
-
Same reason you so closely link "love" and "monkey". :)

I think the playing of the national anthem at sporting events is out of place, but the Olympia playing the American anthem is standard. Look at an international event like the Indy 500, drivers from around the world, but they only play the American anthem.
-
Same reason you so closely link "love" and "monkey". :)
long time, no see. i guess you been in jail again. where is newmoms, anyway?

I actually think I lost a wristwatch up inside your mother's kunt.

Good post! Young kids don't care about bodybuilding. There's not a lot of talent pursuing it anymore.
-
G string!! My main vein...how's it hanging? Still whackin it to dudes with tits?
-
Good post! Young kids don't care about bodybuilding. There's not a lot of talent pursuing it anymore.
Well what do they expect, when pursuing a bodybuilding career means building a nasty looking bloated body, built on insulin and site injected with oil everywhere possible :-\
Ohh gee, where do i sign up ::)
-
sport? prestige? ??? This is bodybuilding!!!
-
first thing... pay up a bit more upfront and get that competition out of the darn orleans venue! back to mandalay bay... pay a bit more upfront and put the show on billboards and the marquee..
i mean does renting out the mandalay bay cost THAT MUCH MORE than the orleans hole?
how much does it cost or a few billboards up and down the strip?
the show and the bb world is almost like a exact representation of what's going on in this country! as long as the powers that be and the few ones at that, make their money, the heck with everyone else (i.e. the fans, the middle level and low level pros, etcetera)
-
Bodybuilding lost it years ago. Started as find the most perfectly developed man and has turned into a freak show.
-
the money's changed everything.
these guys aer all millionaires and they'ev all forgotten about the little man.
-
There are thousands of questionable things posted on Getbig every day.
Changing the title of this thread is childish, pathetic and downright sad.
Obviously men in thongs is "serious" business to some.
::)
-
The Arnold is the best and most prestigous show in bbing!
-
after 2011 yes...this was an extremely shitty Olympia, no other Olympia has been this bad, hopefully there will be some decent physiques ready 2012 on because this lineup sucked

Ron, why Rafael Santonja didn't get a chance to talk and greet people on the stage this year? because of his poor english?
???

This is my high school's fight song. Confederate flag used to be our school flag before an uproar from students forced a change.
-
Ron I disagree with the thread title change. I support your disagreement that the pageant was boring, but Genes friend has a right to his opinion and gene has a right to post it here.
Ok... changed it again, but merging some related threads together - at the moment, there are way too many threads per day on the main board, over 150 yesterday, and the main board cover 50 topics at a time.
And you let this clown mod the training board?
His friends opinion, not his. Who lied.
No, nothing against the anthem, I couldn't give a flying fuck about that, but YOU were the one mentioning the Super Bowl after the internationality of the Mr O was brought up.
Many events in the USA have the national anthem sung. It doesnt matter who is competing, it matters what country they are in. Same in baseball, basketball, hockey, and so on.
Ron, why Rafael Santonja didn't get a chance to talk and greet people on the stage this year?
Not many people did go on stage, but he was backstage greeting many people.
It used to be the Olympia was the pinnacle of the sport. The absolute zenith of bodybuilding. It is still the greatest and most prestigious event for bodybuilding and the other divisions. Everybody wants to be on that Olympia stage. This year though, way too many competitors that shouldnt have been up there qualified, due to some weak contests. And they are changing that. Only the best will be on stage next year again.
-
he never got the text ron, it's all made up

MMA has usurped bodybuilding as the tough-guy-thing-to-do by young men the world over. BB has lost major ground in the past 10 years.
All the "dialing in" this and "holding a film of water" that horseshit certainly doesn't help. It's like a friggin' fag parade instead of a contest of muscle and men. Dudes wearing glittery thongs and slinking around the stage.
Young guys today want to see something TANGIBLE in these guys and their muscles. It's why strongman has gone beyond BB, as well. Hell, strongman is on TV ... and it's a relatively new sport!
-
after 2011 yes...this was an extremely shitty Olympia, no other Olympia has been this bad, hopefully there will be some decent physiques ready 2012 on because this lineup sucked
i hope so i have always kept up with it a little and been involved in weigthlifting/bodybuilding in some from but watching that was horrible almost like sitting through a church sermon they have to do something or that will never attract fans. I would say mabey go back old school where they have a phyique contest combined with athletic strengh events because you can just keep using more and more drugs well you can but no one really aspires to that at least no one that know the truth

About chick, he's the best bodybuilder for the job, but that's not saying much, why can't they hire someone who is just a presenter and not necessarily a bodybuilder... also the commentators for the women were GOD AWFUL WHAT THE FUCK DO NOT TRY TO SIGN THE SONGS, it's like watching TV with the bitches from the View sitting beside me on the couch
-

I agree that the Mandalay Bay brought prestige to the show that is missing now. Their convention area is attached to the hotel, making it an ideal spot. The thing about the Arnold and Olympia is that they stay exactly the same year in and year out. Sure, it's good for the promoters to just replicate last year's model, but the fans get tired of it being EXACTLY the same as the year before.

Because all the WWE commentators are on contract with McMahon. Really who is better qualified to host/commentate a fake show more the Chick himself?
The other factor is money! Chick does it for free just to promote his company and his face....no legit host would do such a thing or work for simply a couple thousand K.
Get really folks this is the best there is
-
chick does it for free... chick is one of the angels keeping the stupid show running lol, papa weider can't come up with 10k from his bazzilian dollars to help chick pay for his car
-
NW is a troll why would you take anything he says seriously. 95% of what he says is bs.
-
Weider is a horrible human being. Anyone who knows the inside scoop on this guy knows this.
IFBB pro bodybuilding hasn't advanced in any way in the last 30 years. Only the physiques have gotten bigger and worse.
Remember Ben Weider's constant prattling about it being his ultimate goal to get bodybuilding into the Olympics? Fat chance that that was ever going to happen.
I began my weight-training career as a bodybuilder, and I will always love the activity of muscle building. However, the "sport" end of the equation (competition) has really let me down. I saw the writing on the wall and made the switch to competitive powerlifting (which is also now in a bit of a bad place because of the excessive equipment and, again, escalating drug use) in the late '90s largely because of this.
-
The Weiders are God's only perfect creations, even more so than our mothers. To say otherwise is to tempt Ron's banfinger.

1. The playing of the American national anthem at what is supposedly an international sporting event is, I think, in bad taste. Of course, it is unrealistic to play the national anthems of all the countries represented by the competitors so the most logical thing to do is to not play any anthem. At the very least, it would give the impression that the non-American bodybuilders are not facing an uphill battle for recognition or that the IFBB is not just a little boys club. After, it is the International Federation of Bodybuilders, right?
2. If the amateur talent pool seems limited, then bodybuilding needs to appear more inspirational if participation is to increase. Promoting a freak show is all good and well and the number of fans (re, gawkers) may very well increase (thankyou internet) but unless people are actually participating in the sport, then ultimately bodybuilding will collapse upon its own illusions of success. IFBB management need to be careful not to be deluded by the success of the Olympia and the Arnold.
3. Whether or not Heath is a legitimate Mr. Olympia is a nice discussion for fans but unless the judging is accountable and transparent, such discussion will ultimately lead nowhere. Clear and unambiguous guidelines for what the judges are looking for - and having those guidelines expressed in the scoresheet - will go a long way to making bodybuilding at least appear as a sport. At the moment, all one gets is a result but no details.
4. A sense of tradition and respect for the sport's history goes a long way in establishing a sense of legitimacy for bodybuilding as a whole. The incremental chipping away at the value of things like posing, lines and presentation for competition only add to the freak show mentality. Bigger is not always better when you start to make yourself look stupid. Understanding this helps to understand why someone like Frank Zane was not just a 'swimmer' and why Chris Dickerson, despite only winning one Olympia, was probably the best physique competitors in bodybuilding history. Many fans, however, cannot see past 'awesome' and their approach to the sport suffers accordingly.
5. Ultimately, bodybuilding needs to present itself more as a sport than as a business (which it obviously has to be) or as a 'jobs for the boys' club.
Hope this helps.

no sorry
went to cali
went to olympia expo-got supps
watched womens show
left after national anthem because his friend wanted to go to the clubs
dicksock is an outdated term
Well - there are two options here.
1) Either your story is fake, or
2) Your friend is a complete idiot. How can he say a show sucks when he haven't even watched the thing?
"Oh yeah, I went to the Chargers game - I left as the players entered the field; the game sucked balls". Does that kind of reasoning really make sense to you?
I enjoyed the show. I actually asked staff about the number of people there and they estimated there to be around 6000 people - the arena can house 9500.

Perhaps you should remind your "friend" that the Olympia is in Vegas, not LA.....
God , youre a retard
hahahahhaha.....that's a good one.
-
hey moron
yeah he left as the men began...and went to clubs...hmmm whats cooler...hang out and watch men in thongs-or go to clubs and be with hot women
money means nothing to him-he wiped his ass with the tickets
hahahaha great post, chicky can't take it, no one cares about the olympia, naturals friend did other things more interesting, the show sucked he said in the text.
-
At the world series or any baseball game (or any NHL game) where there are Canadian and American teams playing, they play both anthems.
Complete travesty.
Indeed, stick to O'Canada and start the game already.
-
Bullshit story...."rich" men don't text.

Yeah...that makes a lot of sense, retard....so your friend spent money for tickets, then left when the men started (which was the beginning of the show)??
Left after the National Anthem..?

his friend can have a lot of money, floyd mayweather was buring 100$ bills, natural has many friends, so how can you say his friend didn't send him this text, it isn't like the olympia tickets cost as much as superbowl tickets LOL. there is plenty of other stuff to do in vegas too that is much more fun than watch men on stage pose down.

This getbig story is about as believable as the one about the 46 year-old lifetime "natural".

hahahaha great post, chicky can't take it,
But we all know you can, and do, up your ass, as long as it's well over 8".

USA is pretty much the only country to implant their anthem and flag in every place possible. Please, stick 'em up your ass, the rest of the world has done it already.

Judging should be more open in evere way.

Bodybuilding is kind of cool just because of one person, Arnold. Past should be respected, yes.
5. Ultimately, bodybuilding needs to present itself more as a sport than as a business (which it obviously has to be) or as a 'jobs for the boys' club.

Present situation is a direct result from poor prize moneys.

Rednecks like bodybuilding stupid retards like the anthem played,.That's not gonna change. Anyhow IFBB is a joke for all intents and purposes.

They shouldn't have played the American national anthem at all - there really is no need for it. I've been to a Mr Olympia contest (2008) and felt at the time that it was irrelevant.
2. If the amateur talent pool seems limited, then bodybuilding needs to appear more inspirational if participation is to increase. Who says people aren't participating in the "sport"? Gym membership is at an all time high but you're always going to be limited when it comes to the hardcore competitive element because drugs are involved - that type of extreme behaviour doesn't appeal to the average gym member and rightfully so. Competitive bodybuilding will always be an underground subculture and will only ever appeal to a select few - trying to promote it will just draw more attention to illicit drug use.
3. Whether or not Heath is a legitimate Mr. Olympia is a nice discussion for fans but unless the judging is accountable and transparent, such discussion will ultimately lead nowhere. Heath won the contest fair and square - I know bodybuilding is subjective, but there was no doubt that when taking into account the paramaters needed to "win" the show, then he was the guy who fit the criteria the best. But I do agree, judging needs to be more transparent - the result of the 202 was very suspect in my opinion.
4. A sense of tradition and respect for the sport's history goes a long way in establishing a sense of legitimacy for bodybuilding as a whole. The incremental chipping away at the value of things like posing, lines and presentation for competition only add to the freak show mentality. That's just a matter of opinion - I don't think I've ever heard anyone say Chris Dickerson was one of the best physique competitors in history. They were good for their time but naturally bodybuilding has progressed since then.
5. Ultimately, bodybuilding needs to present itself more as a sport than as a business (which it obviously has to be) or as a 'jobs for the boys' club.
Bodybuilding will never be a legitimate "sport". Why can't people just accept that? We are the freaks, an underground subculture - why should we be trying to aspire to someone else's ideals? Let the masses come to us - why should we be trying to please them?
Hope this helps.

Dude bodybuilding could grow quite easily actually. IF steroids were the issue MLB would be sunk ::), the problem is they've let it turn into a freak show, if they want to save the sport they need to set bmi limits, and up the volume on seniors bodybuilding, and womens bodybuilding. Also they'd have to start being highly selective on who they want as the there spokes people. Jay dosen't have the charisma to run a starbucks(I wish I were joking) but we all know it's true.

The idea of the sport progressing has nothing to do with what guys like Dickerson achieved in their time.
In terms of physique competition, Dickerson has to be ranked as probably the best ever. Not only was he active throughout the 60s, 70s AND 80s, he also competed in the AAU, NABBA, WBBG and the IFBB, winning top titles or placing high in all of these organisations. From 1979 to 1982, he dominated the IFBB pro circuit. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can boast that kind of record.
It's a blight on the sport that many fans do not seem to be able to appreciate not only how good some of the older guys actually were but also why they were that good.
Bodybuilding will never be a legitimate "sport". Why can't people just accept that? We are the freaks, an underground subculture - why should we be trying to aspire to someone else's ideals? Let the masses come to us - why should we be trying to please them?
It's hard to make the masses come to us if there is nothing appealing or inspirational about it...
In anycase, the problem is not that we should be trying to aspire to someone else's ideals but rather that the sport itself has moved away from its own ideals.

I agree with erics.. it's going to shits unfortunately

This years Olympia was the swan song, or at to say the least, a glimpse into the ultimate destiny of many of the top contenders-Heres why-
Dennis Wolf: Will never bring up the calves nor round out the rest of his physique. For this reason, no matter how conditioned he comes in, will never win an Olympia. He can perhaps, eventually win a contest like the New York pro at most..
Kai Greene: For who knows what emotional reasons, cannot get it together when it counts, and for whatever political reasons, will never again beat Phil Heath nor win an Olympia.
Jay Cutler: Should be smart and retire. Too long in the sport and his body is starting to show signs of wear and tear. No one likes the look of his physique anymore. He can never again in life, beat a Phil Heath.
Victor Martinez: Could have probably been the best Mr. Olympia ever. Just cannot or will not (too laid back) get shredded. That fact combined with getting up there in age and personal setbacks, will never win an Olympia.
Branch Warren: Though not present, if he decides to continue competing in the O in the future-like Jay, he will be given the sympathy vote possibly topping out the top 3 or so. His physique is maxed out and not looking any better for wear. Young upstarts are on his heels in the way of the Brandon Currys and Evan Centopanis etc. etc. He will find himself usurped by these individuals very soon if he doesn’t step aside while he can.
Dexter Jackson: Poor guy, as long as he has the desire to continue competing, he is kind of obligated to keep going into the Olympia; Kind of a catch 22 because he will struggle every time just to stay in the top six. He should do/win masters and retire.
This, coming from someone who would have loved to see anyone of these guys beat Phil Heath..

There's a lot of talk now about Phil never losing again, maybe winning 7,8, or 9 Olympias. You can never tell what's going to happen that far down the road, but we're probably in for the most boring stretch of Olympias we've ever seen.

if he wins 8 or 9, i'm done with bbing. some still think kai will pull away from the table and come in shape. who knows? there is still the chance kulco (arlington) or evan will just size up, in which both of those guys hang around 6 feet, and evan is the one who can get grainy. phil is still a small bber along the lines of dexter, not a mass monster.
-
very boring mr o we have now. ronnie was a true mr o.
-
Wolf will get implants, Kai will never win for political reasons, Victor's done, Jay was always done, Heath will stay mr O for a decade, I'm afraid.
And Warren should be thrown into the meat grinder..

The success of the Olympia and the Arnold makes people think that bodybuilding is going well.
Most pro-contests still offer the same amount of prize money they did 20 years ago. (And if the promoters are making more money, why isn't any more of it being channeled into prize money? Then again, after decades of having no union, I doubt bodybuilders are going to get together to form one now...)
In anycase, the recent decision to limit qualifying for the Olympia to just the winners of pro shows is a step in the right direction.

In Wolf's case, calf implants would be fully justified
