I would certainly argue that Pink Floyd is the best band to ever grace planet Earth.
-
Superior in every way!
-
Who's seen them live?
-
-
One of the most talented groups!!!
-
I love Pink Floyd!!! Talk about sensational music......I have a few of their CDs....My top 2 albums would be Another Brick In The Wall and Learning To Fly.
Gilmore and Waters are out of this world....although I wasn't crazy about Sid Barrett....a little too gloomy for me.
I got to see Roger Waters live back in 05......Talk about a performance.....and the back up ladies were over the top.....very much worth the price of admission.

yes absolute great, good music to trip on too.
-
great band, all around great band

nirvana are better
Solid song writing, but the technical abilities do not compare, not in the least. Nirvana were admitted hacks at their instruments.
Pink Floyd is almost objectively one of the most timeless bands of the last 50 years.
There production was on par with todays, they had a movie, they made the first electronica, they pioneered the concept album, they were the music of more than one generation on both sides of the pond, they were the top selling progressive rock band of all time, the along with rush were one of the few bands to have hits in 7/4 time signature(money), they had one of the most tasteful guitarists in the world, and lyrical themes(thewall anyone?) that most people wouldn't even imagine touching. Most importantly they have very very few flaws relative to other big acts(i.e. led zep stole alot of blues music)

mentioning nirvana in de same sentence as pink floyd is like cursing in the church.
-
bb related ;)

Pink Floyd is one of, if not the most, influential band to ever grace a rock 'n roll stage.
Peter Gabriel is also very influential, if you happen to know great music.
-
I had the pleasure of sitting in the den of Roger Waters home and he picked up an acoustic and started playing Floyd songs
-
One of the best songs ever imo, truly timeless (no pun intended).
-
Yeah saw the last tour. Air was one big weed cloud. Comfortably numb forever...

said to be the closest thing to taking drugs without actually taking them, by a rock critic in the 70's.
-
Why ahead of their time. Or anytime for that matter. Seriously talented.
-
Very good, most talented ever?? No.
-
Solid group. Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon always in the rotation, somewhere. Last time I saw them, the laser show was awesome. So awesome, that the local airport made them change their light show for the 2nd and 3rd shows. :D
-
gilmour can really play blues guitar, checkout standing around cryin,on the muddywaters tribute c.d.
-
Great band, but no where near the most talented if we are talking about pure playing ability.

We are not talking Satch/via virtuoso turf, we are talking...........
Well, read the thread. Extremely well made music that is timeless. Gilmore is in my top 5 favorite guitarists. With Hendrix, having the NO.1 spot ;)

Like I said great band but lots of other bands with more playing talent and song writing talet. Early Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Yes from 72-78 was chalk full of some of the best players on the planet, Mahavishnu was great, Zappa, Weather Report, Led Zep, and a few more.

as always Lord .. you know your music :D
-
Best band ever = The Doors.
-
Most talented? :-\ They def. contributed some great songs and their live shows were incredible for their time. If your going to see a show and pay that kinda money the performers should at least blow you away and pink floyd did that visually. Musically, there are way more "talented" groups.

If you've got or can get BBC Radio 6,
tonight they're doing all night Pink Floyd...
...from 12 midnight tonight British Time (7pm Atlantic American Time, 4pm on your West Coast), they're playing all of it.
Till then (it's now 9:30pm here) they're doing BBC archive recordings, covers and docu's and so forth. It's rather wonderfully done.
I've got it on.
Yep, I saw them in Toronto in the 70s or early 80s, I was very very young, like 13 or 14, grade 8 or 9? can't remember whether I was on acid or mushrooms or what year it was. I remember dancing in the aisle, ending up at the front and then hugging everyone.

I had the pleasure of sitting in the den of Roger Waters home and he picked up an acoustic and started playing Floyd songs
Wow! That must have been awesome.
