I have been attacked by two pitbulls two years ago, I am 6'2 and was 240 at the time & training, the pitbulls sevred my achilles tendon and mauled my left wrist, I couldnt walk for six months, got blood clot and skin infection and big dog phobia. Pitbulls are not like normal dogs. I have been attacked, I am qualified to tell, I might take a pic later of my leg and upload it

No I am white, and live in melbourne australia, i was doing a quote on a large property when I was set on by two dogs, attacked immediately and one went in front and the smaller one went behind me, and quicky bit my achilles temporarily severing it.

A friend of Mine runs the local ju-kitsu and mma studio, he laughed when I told him waht had happened. He has actually wrestled dogs in demonstrations. He told me that to be effective against a dog you have to get to its level and choke it out. I asked him about my situation, and he said basically. Two or more dogs, especiall Pits, ya fucked, and I lost that day. No doubt.

Well, eventually after what seemed a long time, but I am not sure of the actual time - but enough to be bitten four times, three times on the lower left leg and once on the left wrist, the owners came and struggled to control the dogs but eventually did.

Not all pitbulls are like that. Some are the sweetest dogs you can imagine. Its all about the owner, and how the dogs have been treated as they grow up.

Well if it's a small dog like 60-70 pounds or under I would just try to kick it, pound it with fists, jump on it, use my bodyweight in general, if I have to gouge its eye out...this kind of dog in my opinion is easy to kill/drive away if you have some size and strength AND you keep your cool and mean business.
With a BIG dog all you can do is pray the spaghetti monster and try to wrestle it and then choke it + of course the eye thing always works.
Neck should be always protected, only go to ground if you know you can dominate the dog. Weapons are always handy, everyone has keys in their pockets, they can be used as stabbing weapons. Some people think you should offer the dog your weaker arm and then when the dog is there chewing your arm to do as much damage to the dog as possible.

It's not nice. Even a "gentle" bite to forearm, or ankle as was evident in this thread, can fuck you forever. You should always try to avoid the dog, there is no prize for beating the dog. It's important foremost to learn how not to escalate the situation, never look the dog in eyes, never run (this might be an option sometimes), turn sideways to the dog. Sometimes yelling curse words and being dominating in general can work. Always depends on the dog. The dog is either 1) scared of you 2) it wants to protects something 3) is barking mad. Pet dogs don't have hunting or killing instincts or they are deeply supressed, that's what I have read.

I am all for self protection, but here in Australia it is a major offence to carry a knife or anything perceived to be a weapon, I now walk with one of those mountain hiking aluminium adjustable sticks. About the only thing I can carry without getting a hard time. Australia is such a nanny state, the gun laws here are ridiculous, no one has guns -.men dont even fight anymore, everyone just rings the police if you look sideways at them. Anyway the owners of these dogs had four pitbulls and two were already declared dangerous as they killed some neighbours livestock. The dogs were obviously trained to protect property, but this was denied in court. Sad thing was, all i had on was shorts a tanktop and sandals. In the middle of a ten acre field. I didnt even have my car keys on me, just left them in my ute. As for learning a lesson, I dont know what you can take from it. I stopped training, my left leg is fucked and I dont go out much anymore. The experience has radically changed my opinion on society and my anger levels have gone through the roof, just today a man stared me down at the local market as somebody made a complaint about me as I had an agrument with my partner, well this man eyeballed me, I kept his gaze while I was walking, I ducked behind a market stall and popped up right in front of him and said "Whats with the eyeballin, do you have a problem" and I preceded to get in his face nose to nose and tell him I will drop him where he stands like he was my child. There is more to the story, needless to say the man was shaking and I walked away laughing - I still feel the energy from the pitbulls, the savagery of the attack has been burned into my psyche, and when I get angry I think of pitbulls and want to attack like one. Everyone thinks I am crazy, but I dont giva a flying F@ck after the dog attack. It oponed up an untapped part of my brain. The crazy part

A friend of mine was attacked out of the blue by the family Bull mastiff, Him and his brother were visiting their Mom, who was staying on her own. The dog was very protective of her. He was chatting to her and he lifted his arm up suddenly to point at the ocean (he surfs) and the Bull Mastiff just snapped & attacked him...bit onto his upper arm and was just shaking it's head from side to side like crazy, he managed to pull himself free and get into the kitchen and lock the door. The thing just went totally mental. He said the worst was seeing his blood all over the tiled floor, lifting his arm up and looking at the refection in the oven door. He said his triceps was just hanging off the bone. Sadly they had to put the dog down :(
To this day his older brother still randomly phones him up and bark like crazy to freak him out :D

Man I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. It really sucks what socialist governments do to their people. You can't even protect yourself how pathetic. I thought Australia was a rugged country. I wouldn't even want to live there with those rules.

As a kid in elementary school I was attacked by a Chocolate lab...it latched on to my wrist and shook it...
He didn't break the skin, just clamped down real hard and violently shook it...I don't really have a dog phobia per se, but I'm wary...especially since in Annapolis, people bring their dogs into stores and car dealerships. And everybody has a Lab or Chesapeake Bay Retriever.

Australia is rugged, but that reputation comes from the more remote country areas where men have to be hard to live isolated lifestyles in hard country. But in the city and suburbs we have just as many homo's and nancy boys and prohibitive laws. Our customs suck, I have a friend who competes and he orders supplements that are legal in the states and only gets half of them through. I am suprised they still allow Creatine, the problem is the government is full of religious hypocrites, we still have some old fashioned state minister holding up the process of classifying Computer games with a "R" 18 + Rating, at the moment if it doesnt pass under the "m" rating it doesnt get in. When Left for Dead 2 was released it was only allowed in heavily censored, which ruined the whole impact of the game. It is easier in this country to get a shit load of illegal drugs than it is legal ones. The doctors over here think they are God and make you beg for drugs. Personally, I could tell you a lot about the shittines of our system. But I am radical right wing, and people just write me of as extreme.

They are just like any other dog...their jaws do not lock, they do not have stronger jaw strength than another relatively same-sized dog, and do not have a predisposition to just "snap" and attack people. In fact, there are 23 different breeds of dogs that can be characterized by the media as being "pit bull dogs." A lot of folks think pit bulls reach around to be 120 pound mutants....these are designer mixes, mixed with bigger breeds....they're called "hippos" by some. The pitbull is a sporting breed and is very athletic....both my dogs can climb trees...6 foot fences are easily cleared by them.
Sadly, the bad dog owner is going to choose the pitbull breed almost every single time. The majority of the time where there is a story of a pitbull attacking people, the owners are not exactly pillars of our society. A lot of people shouldn't own them....they were originally bred and built to fight other dogs. They will do things like that.

If everyone just Calmed down and stopped running that dog would calm down right away also. Just grabbing it by the neck "skin" would probably be enough in that situation since it wasn't attacking just playing unless pitbulls reacts bad to that?

That's what it looks like , but in reality by the time he's on cam he had bitten 3 or four people already ! he bit one guy on shoe yet the guy ended up having 14 stitches on foot.
In some citties Pitbulls are banned cause their bites can leave permanent damages, yes someone said that usually owners are not pilars of society witch I agree 100 %.
