Rall's Gym - Andy Bolton trains here with several UK champions.
-
I've talked about the Gym in dublin called Hercules - its a weightlifter wrestler powerlifter club - you have to become a member which isn't too hard anymore - a while back you needed to know somebody in order to get in.
The gym exists since - HOLD YOUR BREATH 1936!!!!!
It has equipment in there like a pull up frame from the 1930 I believe!!!
Gaudi trained there before
Best gym ever true hardcore.

It's hardcore.
Iron Sport Gym-
.
There are lot's of small or small private or semi- private gyms like EliteFts's gym, Tampa Barbell, NGBB, Coffee's, Westside, Cal Strength, etc..... that are hardcore.
Generally, when looking at a gym, I call up and ask what their highest dumbbells are(if they go up to atleast 130's or so) and if they allow chalk. If both those are met, it'll be a decent place. Also try to find out where the Strongmen competitors train. That sport is loud and a bit messy by nature, so if they don't have a problem with it, you're good to go.

Stong and Shapely is awesome they have 250 lb dumbbells on a rack with the word "Ron" under one and "Coleman" under the other.
Speaking of which, I gotta assume metroflex in TX lives up to the hype.

Been to a few of them which are cool
1) Metroflex Gyms are cool - been to the ones in Texas (Plano, Arlington) and the one in Long Beach (brand new). Owners are cool, and you can grunt.
2) Armbrust Gym near Denver was very cool. Dylan took care of us when we went there, and they have a room just to train legs which was huge (perhaps 30-40 pieces of equipment.
3) Gold's Gym North Hollywood - old school gym, one of the older Gold's Gym out here, and lots of competitors train there.
4) Gold's Gym Venice - the mecca. Big, no air conditioner, by the ocean.

San Marcos Athletic Club (SMAC) in San Marcos, TX. Been around since the 70s. Smells like iron and sweat. PLs, BBs, WLs, wrestlers, football players, etc...met Mark Henry there. Spent a good number of years training there. Concrete floor, wood platforms for deads/squats, chains for bench, small, dingy dungeon....best place I ever trained. They used to keep a chalkboard on the wall with the best squat, dead and bench numbers of members.

Steve, the guy that runs it was a high level strongman and Highland Games guy (he's modest on the video, but he was invited to the '94 WSM and was well known in Highland). He gets tons of (many high level) Powerlifters, Strongmen, OL'ers, plus the odd NFLer or Wrestlers in there from what I've been told and seen.

The most hardcore gym I have ever seen was a playground in a poor run down urban black neighborhood. Guys were doing dips, chins, pushups, burpees, single leg squats and other body weight exercises. At the end they all go for a run.
The guys were ripped and in shape. The next town over in the rich white neighborhood has a gym with every possible contraption is filled with soft white guys. Only the drug users in the gym look like bodybuilders.
I will bet my last dollar that the push up and chin crowd would wipe the floor with the super gym crowd if push came to shove.
