Title: Just finished reading The Old Man and The Sea
Post by: Rhomboids on October 06, 2011, 03:51:26 PM
I like Hemingway so i was looking forward to this short story.  I enjoyed it a lot but i'm not sure i see why this is considered to be his best work.  Being completely objective, i can say that maybe it's simply not to my liking.  I enjoyed A Clean, Well Lighted Place much more than this.

I really like the relationship between the old mand and the boy, but can anyone read this and not come away with the same feeling?  I was expecting to come away from this story with some great personal insight, but it wasn't case - at least not yet.

Any of you Getbiggers read this?  What's your opinion?

I thought Hemingway had great calves but he wasn't ripped. Why did you start a thread on the Old Man and the Sea on a bodybuilding site?

Seriously I really enjoyed this book and I think the way he wrote was like someone painting a beautiful picture. Not everyone will like it but I did.

I liked the Hollywood adaptation where the girl won't marry Will Ferrell until he gets the fish out of the house and hilarity ensues.

Congrats!  Next year when you start high school you might like reading Chaucer

"Canterbury Tales"...followed by Giovanni Boccaccio's "the Decameron"...I like the "Jar" the best.
