Brutal yes, but as far as I know I am only one of two getbiggers with chronic, year long insomnia and I am telling you there is no cure, no solution, other than acceptance. If if goes on for months then you are also in that boat. If if is just one night, what the fuck are you complaining about?

At nighttime, your body's cycle is trying to let you fall asleep. WHen you still have light coming at you from computers and tv's etc, it's makes it a bit more difficult to start your sleep cycle.
Try to limit light at night. No, you don't have to sit in the dark etc, but turn off the tv and computer. Dim lights etc.

Also, if you don't already, do some cardio. Always zonks me out.
The one thing that will keep me up at night is stress re work. I will have things spinning thru my mind and that really stops me from sleep. I don't know as there is much one can do about that.

Don't drink caffiene, don't eat anything within 3 hours before bed, and avoid doing anything that makes you think before you goto sleep. I usually just find something really boring on youtube and let nature take it's course.
Jerking only works if your head's clear and you just don't feel tired, otherwise it will just get your pulse/heart rate going.

I dont really understand insomnia, you are either tired and sleep or you dont. Insomnia to me is strange, it appears it is just someone thinking about sleeping when they should be active. Strange phenomenon

you don't need much sleep if you do
if you still can't sleep perhaps it means you don't need to at the moment.
I was up for 3 days with only a few hours sleep recently, my thought process was still fine and so was my strength.
