Title: When will the car Rebadging Stop?!
Post by: Parker on October 20, 2011, 06:06:29 AM
I was coming back from the gym today, and this guy pulls up to me at a light, black with black BBS style rims. It was a E46 bodystyle, I see the M3 "vent", but the front looked odd...He takes off, come to find out, it was a 4 door, and lacked the quad exhausts...and he had the M3 emblem on the back.
WTF, in this day and age, he should realize people are obviously gonna know that ain't a M3. There was never a E46 M3 sedan. And to spend all that money on rims, front fenders, and a M3 emblem, and not do the rear valance, shows a true poseur on a budget.

I don't get the rebadging...
I've seen SLK 320s rebadged as SLK 430s (there was never a SLK430).

I see that too, a lot.  I'll see Miata's  with a Porsche "Turbo" badge on the back. You'll see fake M class BMW's all over. "DOHC" badges on cars with pushrod engines.

And all sorts of other shit on cars from different manufactures as well. It takes a lot to get me to like side vents....but when you see some that are OBVIOUSLY just glued on and they are about 3 inches protruding from above the wheel well I want to follow that person, rip those fake vents off and lecture them on how silly they are!

Until a dude with a real M3 pulls up, and the chick in the car says to her boyfriend, "How come his looks different?"

mind you this was also in a "working class area"...I've seen dudes pull up with half a ca. (1985 Honda CRX with no bumper, front fenders, hood, and no exhaust) and want to race. Fox body Mustangs that look like they have some sort or skin disease (yet have SVT on the side).

I also see trucks with fake 4X4 stickers..... WTF??? why would you have to lie about that?
Ego, it's called ego boosting...nobody cares if your truck is a 4x4, hell most people assume that all trucks are.

I change the 32 waist on the label to a 31 on all my jeans.

My dad thinks shirts get too small for him, and that he's not getting too big.
32...I'm like a 28, and yet I have to by for my ass, so I am roughly a 31,
but I thought you'd be smaller than that. Or is women sizes diff...I know they go like 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, etc
so are you wearing men's clothing?

Not.  Anyone who knows enough to recognize those badges knows enough to recognize the posers. ::)

I see that douchebaggery on Benzes as well.

AMG badges on non AMG models. ...truth is at least 80% of people don't know the difference.

My gf drives a 2007 C230 (cheap benz) ...but when it comes up in conversation with most people that she has a mercedes, most people think she's rich and her car is at least $50K.

 ;D  No

You're right that womens sizes are usually 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. but many jeans do have sizes labeled like 26, 27, 28, 29 etc.    I imagine the cut is different but I'm not sure how much smaller they are from men's clothing...I normally wear a 6 which usually translates to a 28 or 29.

My dad thinks shirts get too small for him, and that he's not getting too big.

Yes, I remember one time all of my clothes shrunk and then after a week or so they fit again :)

I've never heard of Rebadging cars though..till I read your post.

Until some dude pull up to him and start laughing and point that out, or tries to race him at the light...
A 2008 A4 2.0 is nothing to be ashamed of, and has a better interior than the respective Mercedes/BMW models.

Exactly

Doesn't rebadging cost money?  Few of these people stop with a badge.  They often also adjust the suspension, get rims, spinners, undercarriage lights, custom seats, etc.  Instead of doing all that, why not just buy a better car? ???

There is upgrading and then there is tuning...Rebadging can be just the actual badge, or they can do a clone.
Foe instance, I was at Panera bread, and these Asian dudes had their BMWs out---one was the Z4M, then another was a E46 sedan with M3 rims, and then the last was a E92 coupe in matte black with M3 rims, M3 rear and quad exhaust, and front bumper---but he didn't have the front fenders with the M3 vent, or the
rear fenders, nor the brakes, but had the M3 emblem.
And it didn't sound like the V8 in the M3 either---it sounded like a 335i with a exhaust tune.
All that money wasted on doing that, and he could of had the M3.

Hell, on the Car Show, they showed a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte that originally listed for 129k and now has 29k miles---it goes for 21k now.

No, E46 M3---there was never a sedan model...only the E36, E90 bodystyle had M3 sedans, and thd upcoming F80 M3 will likely be a M3 sedan with the coupe possibly being a M4.

chicks dont notice shit like that.

only other guys do, specifically other BMW owners. and if you have a BM its easy to spot a rebadged one. which makes me wonder why guys even do it in the first place. so you can fool the kid driving the civic, cause to another BM owner you look like a tool.
