Alright real simple, as you all know I'm apartment hopping, so I've just found a place for the month of november.
Anyhow they said over the phone that they don't rent to welfare. Is that legal isn't that discrimination based on occupation? I really don't give a shit, but it's a good enough reason to fuck my landlord over and bail out with no notice in a months time.

If you're on wellfare then you have no occupation. So ofcourse they won't give you a condo. And even if you had occupation you wouldn't necessarily get a condo dipending on your income. So there is no discrimination :D

If you're on wellfare then you have no occupation. So ofcourse they won't give you a condo. And even if you had occupation you wouldn't necessarily get a condo dipending on your income. So there is no discrimination :D

Anyhow there not doing this based on income if that were so I'd have no complaint, nor if it were by reference, by damage deposit, credit rating etc, they said they don't rent to people who get their income from the government. Remember veterans on disability would also be excluded under their policy, hence is that fucking legal? So you got a veteran 18 years old with a missing arm and a leg, and your refusing to rent to them, just because they get a check from the government?
Anyhow as I said I don't really care if it's illegal or not I'm hopping on these bitches. The city got my back 30 days notice is all I need and there obligated by law to give my damage deposit back.

Plus side the landlord is virtually guaranteed the rent money as it comes directly from the government. The down side is that a lot of people on sec 8 are undesirable and will likely be trouble and leave damages when they move out.

There are some places that don't rent to section 8 (read welfare), it's entirely legal...they do background and credit checks---if your shit is effed up, you won't get the apt/condo, that's why people have co-signers.
Times are hard, not just for reg joes, but for apt/condo places...you got people trying to stiff them, or trying to get nice places and they don't work, have bad cred or just criminals.
And signing a month to month lease costs more than a reg lease.
You picked a bad time to do apt hopping.

an owner CANNOT say "you are (insert race here) and you dont make enough money, so im not renting to you"
section 8 is different. it is an agreement with thte federalis who promise to pay for X amount of the rent providing they (renter) meets certain conditions.

You are wrong here. Source of income is a protected class. Also they can verify that you make enough to pay rent. It is common to require tenants to make something like 2.5 the monthly rent in income.
I worked in property management and have gone through fair housing training. This protected class actually was partly formed because landlords didnt want to rent to strippers, lol.
