As of the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, the official world record for the Men's Clean and Jerk is 263.0 kilograms (580 lb). This record was set by Hossein Rezazadeh of Iran.[2]

The former world record in the Clean and Jerk was 266.0 kilograms (586 lb) by Leonid Taranenko of the Soviet Union. However this weight is not considered a world record by the International Weightlifting Federation, since all the old records were annulled after a restructuring of weight classes.

His stance isnt in the finishing position of a proper clean and jerk - not that easy to press 500 ponds plus over your head

Samir wasn't one of the biggest guys on the circuit, only about 210 I believe.

Yea, no wonder. Desperate need to get Soviets off the top lists - if no other way, let's change weight limits or whatever voodoo   ::)
Soviets still the strongest, fastest, most accurate... After so many decades.... What a joke sports became when Cold War ended.

BTW, in pic probably most plates are 10 kg's

Can some of you get real. Samir, while a strong guy, was NOWHERE near the strength of his elite weightlifting counterparts, size relative.

I think it is a real pic. I think the bar has (2) 25 KG plates and the other plates are 10 KG bumper plates.

Total weight 130 KGs = 286 pounds.

It is obviously Samir, I would guess the late 80's, but I do not know that gym.

*Looking at Samir's left wrist, perhaps all the plates are fake. I don't know.

Weightlifting bar doesn't weight 45 pounds, it's 20 kg EXACT.

ok so 20kg is 44.1 lbs.  45lbs is therefore 98% accurate ::)

Only 100 % accuracy is acceptable.

I doubt it's fake per se. We just don't have a fucking clue what's on the bar, like tommywishbone said. And it doesn't look like snatch to me.

Bumper plates can go as low as 5 kg. 5 kg plates could make it 100 kilos. You don't think a muscular bodybuilder can lift 100 kg over his head?

Yes they can, but they won't under a photo shoot. Not because they can't, but because they won't. It's a photoshoot. That's all.

If it is then it's a damn weird photoshoot for a bodybuilder.

It is also a 25kg plate which is 55lbs.

Could be bumper plates. I do not know how strong he is but people like Glenn Ross would have to try to put 400lbs overhead so Samir would not be able to.

I call bullshit on this....I agree no bodybuilder could clean and jerk that much weight.....you would have to have much more mass to do that
Title: Re: is this fake?
Post by: Ursus on October 21, 2011, 05:09:51 PM
There was some Korean bodybuilder about in the mags maybe 6 years ago who was meant to be very strong.

Jerking it overhead is not impossible by any means but cleaning it would be virtually imporrible for anyone who is not an oly lifter.
Title: Re: is this fake?
Post by: BB on October 21, 2011, 05:33:02 PM
Tommy's right, those are old school black training bumpers, it can be hard to figure the load. You've got the bar, a pair of 25kgs, next pair could be a pair of 20kg'ers or 15kgs. The hard part is figuring the two sets of outside plates, but it's probably in the high 200's. child's play for a jerk type lift.

edit- yeah, on blowing the picture up, I agree with Tom's numbers. They weight room doesn't look American. The squat stands, layout of the room, etc.... look European.

Other way around usually.

I could easily jerk 3 plates but could not clean 3 plates as I have zero oly lifting experience.

Ha! Jerk is easy enough even a push press. However I would say that 95% on thsi forum could not clean 250lbs

Thing is, Samir is of an age were the C/J would've still been a played with lift in the World of bodybuilding, not practiced every week, but he would've known how to do them. He's been a known lifter since the early 70's.

Also we don't know how he cleaned it, it could've been mighty ugly:).
Title: Re: is this fake?

350lbs is not beyond teh realms of possibility as bbuilders back then were strong and some were athletic.

Anyway he could have lifted it out push pressed it and then had a photo taken
