I look very decent in a suit I think.

However put someone who is 260lbs @ 5'8 in anything and they will never look good.

I know what you are saying, I also like dimple on most of my ties but that one is more of the slim type, the tissue is very good but no dimples because the tie overal is too thin.

The suit does not make the man.  And neither do drugs.  I prefer the greatest generation, if you will.  If others think differently that is fine, but I will disagree where I think I should.  For example, I think more of Oliva than I do Coleman and both took drugs, albeit at different levels and whatnot.  I prefer that a bodybuilder look like a bodybuilder and not a caricature of one.

Most of the younger guys are too big and probably too cheap to pull it off now.

I agree.  Unfortunately for him, Ronnie's face reminds one of a pair of heavily Botoxed vaginal lips.  Kevin Levrone could probably pull off the look in a suit if he kept his body weight around 200 or so.  Serge Nubret too.   Reeves and Zane have it all.

You are probably right.  It's not zoot suit ridiculous, but a bit too much.  His real shoulders were wide enough but I suspect that they take them out to that width in an effort to give the wearer a bit of room to move.  Plus, it was something of the style at that time.

I'm sorry, but that's just a horrible suit and a horrible look. The pants are... I don't even know. WTF?

I am hesitant to blame the people who measured and cut this monstrosity, since they obviously had to measure and cut a suit to fit that body, but they aren't off the hook completely. Anybody with a shred of professional integrity would have said: "Mr. Coleman, I don't think we can accommodate your unique needs. I do apologize." and showed him to the door.

Agreed.  That so called "suit" is a monstrosity.  Just a terribly cut and tailored suit that is way too big for him.

The problem is a lot of these guys are lazy and/or cheap.  Any solid tailor can fit a suit properly.  Even hem it so it's loose through the quads and slimmer by the calves so it fits properly.  You can't just go to the Big and Tall section of mens warehouse, pick something out that fits, and hope for the best that you look like a gentlemen.

Right. A good tailor can (usually but not always) fit a suit properly, no matter the body type. And a suit that fits perfectly is a wonderful thing.

Arnold's suits as Governor were always perfect. He didn't carry Ronnie's mass, so perhaps it's an unfair comparison, but his stuff was always perfectly tailored and he didn't wear ridiculous and garish color combinations that made him look like an art-deco lampshade.

yup. and to the haters, the pants are baggy around the lower legs cuz his upper legs are so damn massive they pants have to be that wide for them to fit regularly. looks great in that suit. clearly a bodybuilder, not just an athletic guy.

When clothes are tailored it doesn't matter how big your quad are

Even if what you say is true (which really isn't - the pant legs could have been tailored much much better so that they don't look like something bought from a garage sale by M.C. Hammer), that still leaves the absolutely horrible and garish colors he chose. Cornflower blue jacket and pants, a vile sade of salmon for a a shirt and a metallic silver-blue tie... Reminds me of the brightly-colored villains from the 60's Batman show.

Sure they do - that's what bespoke suits are all about. And, let's be realistic, when you have a body like that you simply cannot go to your local "Men's Warehouse" or the local tux rental place and pick up something from their "Prom Fashion" bin. You need bespoke. Or it will look like crap.

Actually Arnold's suits can still do with a bit of tweaking: the shoulders are a tad wide and the sleeves an inch too long. But that's nitpicking.

As for Ronnie's suits, ofc they're tailored, but the tailor should be shot. It's a criminal offense to make a more than 3 button suit. Let alone the choice of color, lapels and other style-elements. I do fear Coleman had some strong non-sartorial views on how his suits should look. Many self-respecting tailors would tell him to find another tailor though.

I agree, it should not be tight, but too loose makes you look like a clown.  Yes, you can get the upper and lower leg tailored to fit properly, but you have to pay for it.  A good tailor can do anything.  The Phil Heath suit in the photos above are a good example of how it should properly fit.

Arnolds suits weren't all perfect, but yes, he always looks professional, powerful, and like a gentleman.  No offense to Bob Chick or any of these other guys as bodybuilders, but the glossy look, bright colors, and long coat tails lack class.  I mean, when you go to these bodybuilding shows, it's practically a circus event.  You have meat heads in tank tops, guys who look like they never worked out a day in their life, people in jeans and tee shirts, girls wearing a variety of outfits, and so it only makes sense that the suits some of these guys wear would be ummmmmm odd ball  ???... However, I think if the pros started acting more professionally, it would trickle down.  It's like dress codes in the NBA, NFL, or even the college level.  Presentation, how you look, and first impressions mean a lot.  Sure, how these guys show up looking isn't winning them the contest, but it at least gives a different portrayal of the sport.

Wow. Ronnie looks like he's wearing a sail from a 80+ ft sailboat! And what the fuck with having it practically choke him?

Horrible style. Looks like a fucking joke.

on the color issue- dont be afraid of bright and loud colors. they are positive and happy and make you appear good hearted and fun.

And then Phil hacks it by buttoning the bottom button

scientifically prooven women are attracted to men wearing red.. more than any other color. Red sends a signal that one will be more likely to reach high social status..just don't wear  red for a job interview, it can come off as a threat to the person hiring you even if they don't realize it

Suits are best for tall narrow twinks like myself. The whole idea of a suit is to make someone look powerful. If you already got wide shoulders and are under 6 foot your gonna look like a gorilla. Getting a muscular person looking good in a suit is like getting a fat fuck to look good in a thong, it defeats the objective.
