Title: Perry cries like a sissy over being trounced in the debates
Post by: LurkerNoMore on October 26, 2011, 12:16:09 PM
Many political observers agree that Rick Perry's dismal debate performances have helped spark his dramatic collapse in recent polls. Now, not surprisingly, the Republican presidential hopeful insists his biggest mistake in the campaign so far was agreeing to participate in the forums at all.

"These debates are set up for nothing more than to tear down the candidates. It's pretty hard to be able to sit and lay out your ideas and your concepts with a one-minute response," the Texas governor told Fox News's Bill O'Reilly. "So, you know, if there was a mistake made, it was probably ever doing one of the [debates], when all they're interested in is stirring up between the candidates instead of really talking about the issues that are important to the American people."

But Perry also conceded he had made mistakes during the debates, including when he said critics of a push he led in Texas to allow the children of illegal immigrants to attend state colleges and universities at in-state tuition rates did not "have a heart."

"I used the wrong word there," Perry admitted.

The governor largely used the appearance to trash his opponent Mitt Romney, essentially admitting there is no love lost between the two. Asked about tension between the two, Perry at first insisted he didn't know if "there's a strain."

But it didn't take long for Perry to twist the knife, admitting that he and Romney don't quite see eye to eye.

There's certainly a difference of opinion about philosophically where you stand,'' Perry said. "I mean, you can't change from one election to another."

Asked if he "likes" Romney, Perry didn't quite answer and used the question to again hit his rival as a flip-flopper.

"You can't be for banning guns and then all of a sudden you're, you know, for the Second Amendment. You can't be for the issue of abortion, then you're pro-life," Perry said. "How do you change at the age of 50 or 60 positions on life, positions on guns, positions on traditional marriage. I mean those aren't minor issues . . . . So to change those at the age of 50 or 60 tells you all you need to know about that."

What a crybaby.  He got exposed as an empty suit.  Move on along now.

He really needs to STFU.  He peaked the day he announced.

His plan is good - but he has no business in this race.

Show me one post cheerleading him.

if he gets the nomination by some fluke, of course I will support him over obama, but not for the primary.

lurker, in all fairness, while 33 has been a kneepadder for incompetent dumbasses like trump and palin - he has been pretty quiet on perry.

IMO, the candidates with the most flaws to hide - the palins, the perrys....
they do fine on controlled speeches for friendly crowds, but when you lead the country, you don't get that ;)

If he is rattled and offended by the negativity of polite while disagreeable banter with people he agrees with on 90% of the issues (fellow repubs) -
He's going to melt into a puddle of piss when telling the G20 that we'll go to nukes before we'll go to 1 world currency.

Truth.   Better chance at improving the economy than we will ever get with Obama.

I wouldn't mind seeing debate structures changed, but he signed up for them anyway.  Can't take the heat - get out of the kitchen.

The debates are nothing more than a way for the liberal news organizations running them to attack the candidates with stupid "Gotcha" questions that no one cares about.

Herp derp, PEPSI OR COKE, GUYS? IPHONE OR ANDROID? HAHAHAHA, what a great debate!

Shockingly, the only well run event was that Fox News / Google one in Florida.

without the debates - we would never know if a candidate was cool under pressure.  the entire political process would be narrowed down to which candidate looked the best, and could read a teleprompter speech with the most fervor (see: Perry).

When they are challenged - as presidents are, but both congress and the other world leaders - they have to be seriously cool cats to do a good job.  Ron Paul has been cool in the debates.  Romney has been cool.

If you allowed candidates to 1) avoid interviews (cain's downfall) and 2) avoid debates (perry's downfall) - You'd end up not knowing what you're getting with a president until they win the office and start bombing people because they stubbed their toe in the morning.

Or, better put - would you ever hire an employee without asking him a few Qs?  You let them hand-pick softball OReilly interviews, and you never see them asked tough Qs and see how they react to serious pressure.

You seem to think I'm advocating for no debates. No. They should all be asked the same question and have 3-5 minutes to respond. Hand-picking the questions and giving them 30 seconds to respond is fucking moronic. Ron Paul got passed over on the housing question last week and he was the only one up there that predicted the bubble would pop. Don't you think it would have been worth it to hear his opinion?

Not to mention the constant questions that people voting in the GOP primary don't care about.

Exactly.

He has a new flavor of the week every time you turn around it seems.  Won't be long before he is on the Perry wagon.

You have made yourself clear as the biggest tool on this board.

That is exactly what it is right now.   They never go beyond sound bites and quick hit nonsense.  No depth to any of the debates as it would be wasted on the vast majority of dumbasses in our country anyway.
