They had a song about another great bodybuilder: "Mighty" Mike Quinn...., who was also known by his other nickname "Mighty Fat" Quinn.... :D

mike quinn also meant a lot to me in my early days as a bodybuilder. i remember training in the basement with my muscle magazines looking at pictures of mike quinn. his interviews were cool too because he always wanted to punch somebody. i could do a seperate thread about the "bad boy from brokton".

His performance at the WBF was one of the most stupid events in bodybuilding. But a fun memory 20 years later... ;D

Then he gor beat up and tore a pec in a barfight...So he now has to take the "Mighty" out his name.

Way back in 1994 Hoeberl came to Gold's Venice. After he said hello at the front and walked into the gym, we all looked at each other and started laughing. We didn't know what we were seeing but we knew it was absurd.
Dude was actually a good strong man competitor.

Manfred was involved in a few auto accidents in the mid 90's that stopped him from competing in Strongman contests anymore, then he was a promoter for a bit of those types of things, and now he's gone into "green" power and moved his sights to that.
Seems like a smart man. below is an excerpt from an Ironmind article-
"And for anyone who still dismissed him as being just might and muscle, consider that Manfred Hoerberl was educated as an engineer, and it’s that background he has been tapping as he works in the field of renewable energy, helping to quench the world’s thirst for solar power, in particular.
Trading the strongman circuit for solar energy projects? Talk about a change.
Strongman, Hoeberl told IronMind®, was something he did for fun, in his youth, and he thinks that if one treats it as more than a hobby, disappointment is likely.
While he says, “I think nothing is impossible,” that’s as far as Hoeberl goes in terms of believing a strongman or a power athlete can catapult himself to fame and fortune based on his athletic performances.
“It’s too late for the super machos,” Hoerberl said as he weighed movie options. “They are into the softies now. Mega-muscle guys were already on their way out [years ago] . . . there was not the demand for it.”
“I did it because I enjoyed it,” Hoeberl said, but still, he advises caution. “I had a great time, but I did a lot of damage to my body . . from injuries . . . being on the circuit.” .
