CEDAR PARK, Texas -- It's a park tucked into a quiet Cedar Park neighborhood, a suburban playtime escape, but on the night of Sept. 3, somewhere between the slides and swings, lay a crime scene.

"It's more than just party brawl or your average high school fight," said Captain Jeff Hayes with Cedar Park Police Department. "This is a serious case where five individuals assaulted a disabled person."

Tyler Bracamontez, 17, Markus Mathis, 21, Brandon Pelfrey, 18, and two juveniles could face prison time for allegedly beating a disabled 19-year-old.

"This is a very very vicious crime, a very, very serious crime, and that's why it carries this level of charge," added Hayes.

Police say the trouble started at a house party on Cedar Park Drive. When a fight broke out, the victim left and tried to walk home but didn't make it far. Five others continued the beating at Prize Oakes Park where the victim suffered from more than just punches and kicks.

An arrest affidavit goes further, saying the victim was choked until unconscious, written on and burned. All this, before several in the group urinated on his passed out body. A 911 call alerted police to the injured teen who was found stripped of most clothes several blocks away, dumped in front of a house.

"It's scary," said Stephanie Orr, who lives across the street from the park. "It's scary thinking that we could have walked out into that. I could have taken the dog out and here's these kids out here doing this to somebody."

Orr never saw the crime. Still, with every look at the park, she can't avoid its impact and hopes consequences come soon.

"I hope that...if they do have all of the information that they need that they are sentenced very harshly," said Orr. "I think for the juveniles involved, and the adults, it's a lesson that needs to be sent.

It will be a lesson to be learned in a courtroom far from the playground where it all began.

As for the condition of the injured teen, he was treated and released from a hospital the same day.

Police say more charges could come against those involved. Injury to a disabled individual is a third degree felony. A conviction brings two to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

if he was treated and released from the hospital on the same day, then the beating was not very severe, but yes tragic
