did he lift? did he post? did he own anyone?
dont care
I remember him from when I was a kid in the 80s. He used to come on at the end of 60 Minutes and make pithy remarks about individuals or humanity in general, grouchy puzzled observations about the cute but awkward shit that we do, etc. A sort of Garrison Keillor without tits and sighs. Maybe it's because I was young and he brought the funny, but it's the only part of that show that sticks out in my memory. Pretty sure most of the viewers suffered through Babawa Wawa's crap just to get to his ending segment. Seemed like sooner or later he owned everyone.
As I remember him:

I was not surprised by his death..just mildly amused since I predicted that he would die the moment he announced his retirement....these really old guys keep kicking as long as they are working....as soon as they retire, they often die within the year

they might be retiring because of health reasons. usually when a very old entertainer, coach or politician retires out of the blue, you can bet they'll be pushing up daisies in another 6 months, sadly.

Johnny Carson was the man. When he quit his show, he hid from the public for good. Rooney's ego wouldn't allow him to do that. The ego is a fuked up entity.

Covered World War 2 as young journalist; another link to our past is gone.
I always like him on television but he was an even better writer.
By the way, I'm Putting in he call that Jake lamotta is the next big name to pass away... You heard it here first.
