Whats your opinion on it?
I'm thinking of switching to them from Brighthouse Networks digital cable. I'm not un-happy with my cable provider - I get great reception and fast internet, it just seems like U-Verse offers so much more, like online features, mobile watching, etc. just some perks that Brighthouse does not have.

It pisses me off because sometimes it hangs. For some reason my computer stopped recognizing the router and i had to bypass it with a wireless one.

Have you felt any impact regarding their 250 GB data cap? Do you game online or do netflix?

Yes i do some online gaming... That is interesting that you mention that data cap. I wonder if that is why im slowing down. I would switch back to cox but they are more expensive and they have alot of outages. What infuriates me is that youtube ads will play smoothly but when the videos i want to see start to play they buffer. Same thing with RXmuscle. Webpages usually load fine although i have trouble with facebook at times. Online gaming isn't a problem though. I don't play sc2 as much as i used to though.

The data cap shouldn't effect your speed.. I think they have the standard around 250 GB... and $10 for each addition 50 GB
So you'd be getting charged more!
So it doesn't seem like you're happy with the service? :)
I just dunno if risking the good service (Both tv content and internet content) that I'm getting is worth the extra perks U-Verse gives you.

Well i haven't been charged more yet. Maybe i haven't hit that yet but no, im not too thrilled with it. Cox was much better but i got fed up with Cox.

I used to be a Uverse technician:
How well it works depends on several factors;
The F2 infrastructure, If the telephone wires in your neighborhood are faulty, there will be lots of "Line Errors" and your TVs will freeze up/pixelate frequently...if you live in a Fiber To the Premises neighborhood that is the best, only physical destruction of the Fiberoptic link will affect the link.
In the residence itself, are you going to link the Gateway to the TV set boxes with Ethernet?..Using Ethernet is the best way to link the system together in the house,...if you use coaxial cables the tech will have to change the fittings on the coaxial cable system lashing it all together, and he will have to change out the splitters, and the wall plates. If the Uverse tech doesn't do this, eventually the digital signals will reflect off the old fittings, and splitters and make you TVs freeze/pixelate.
If you want Uverse voice for your home phone, that is CVOIP. If the electricity goes out to your system, you home phone will stop working. They will install a UPS that will keep your phone working for 4 hours during a power outage,...after which the phone is dead until the lights go on again.
If you want your phone to work the old fashioned way, with the phone company standards of reliability, you have to order POTS when you put in your Uverse order...Don't say "landline"...Say POTS which stands for Plain Old Telephone Service.
If your DVR goes bad, and they change out the box, you will lose all your recordings.
Remember, the Uverse goes into the residence on the Telephone wire,...not the cable TV drop...it helps sometimes if the cable TV drop and the telephone drop are close to each other...The tech is going to have to be able to get to the wall fittings and the cable TV splitters and such in the attic, have the way cleared for them...Have the furniture pulled away from the wall fittings at least three feet.

Oh, Uverse data checking is more involving than the cable providers,...it is superior for files, but it may make the gaming "pause"

WOW - thanks for all the good info! Thats very helpful!
Here is my current setup:
For Voice: I have Vonage - and I'm very happy with them, and don't plan on changing! I even take my vonage with me when I travel out of the country and it works well. Though I get the same problem that you mentioned, if the power goes out, I can't use the phone, but its ok. So I'm not interested in AT&T home voice.
TV and Internet: I have BrightHouse Digital Cable.
The Main Coax line goes directly into my bedroom and from there it splits out to the living room (where my main TV is). I have the internet modem set up in the bedroom connected to a wireless router.
Interestingly I do not have ANY telephone outlets anywhere near the TV or Coax locations in any rooms! And I don't have any ethernet (CAT-5) in wall hook ups - everything I have is wireless!
So it doesn't look good for me right? lol

sync Pulse
I found this article which says that U-Verse can come in from Coax?

(3) Cable Line – May be used for either:
Outbound TV: If U-verse is coming in through the Phone Line or Broadband port, then this will probably be how TV is delivered to the U-verse set-top boxes (STBs), because coax cable will probably be what already runs to TV locations.
Inbound U-verse: If U-verse is coming in to the home using coax cable, then this will be the DSL modem port. I think a splitter will be used if coax will also be used with the set-top boxes.
-
If there is only coaxial outlets near the TV's then they would probably use the existing coaxial distribution system...The splitter, the fittings, and the barrels in the wall plates while have to be replaced...there are coaxial fittings behind every wall plate. If you use wifi for your computers, this can remain the same, the gateway is a wireless router. They will probably put the gateway next to a tv, connect with that closest tv with an ethernet cord, connect with the computers with Wifi,...connect with the other TVs through a combination of a "Diplexer" and a special splitter in the coaxial system.
Be sure to have the furniture pulled away from the wall plates that contain the coaxial outlets (3 feet)...and if the splitter for your coaxial cables are in the attic, the way is clear for the tech to get to the splitter...Ideally the telephone drop and the cable drop will be close together on the outside of your house...the Uverse signal is going to enter your premises on the telephone drop and be interconnected probably with the cable tv drop through the little grey box outside your house....again...all the male fittings, barrels and splitters have to be replaced or it will never work right.
-
The red (broadband) outlet is what is connected to the outside gray box if you have Fiber Optics to the house itself...That is the only time the broadband outlet is used.
The yellow outlets are the ethernet outlets, hardwire connections to you computers and your vonnage box is to those outlets...
if the uverse signal is going to the gateway on the telephone outlet in the house instead of the coaxial, it would connect with the gateway through the green outlet.
If you get the Uverse voice the telephone would be connected to the outlet marked phone.
-
But as I said... I don't have an phone outlets near any of the coax jacks... so can they enter the house using Coax??
Also, if we don't have fiber optics to premise... is it a bad idea to get U-Verse? I have no idea what the condition is of the telephone lines in our neighborhood?
-
yes if the coaxial is in good shape and the fittings on the ends are changed....sorry if I harp on the fittings...but for this to work well the Male fittings, barrels in the wall plates, and the splitter MUST be changed to AT&T provided fittings.
Also, there can be no unused coaxial outlets in a Uverse system, digital waves will reflect off of empty outlets and interfer with oncoming waves.

Believe me all the outlets are used LOL

Fiber optics is the best, but it's only in the newest neighborhoods....
How old is your neighborhood...When was it originally constructed? if it is only ten years or so old it will probably work well...Is it am older High End home? Some lines may be need to be replaced and if it's an older high end home they may have to be stapled along the base board, or ran on the outside of the house and brought into the room through hole drilled into the wall with 18 inch long drill bits.
-
How many tvs?...the largest system distributed through coaxial cable can only have 8 tv's...depending on your circumstances (how far your house is from the cross connect box)...your system can only get one, two, or three different channels.

The neighborhood is about 15-20 years old, but its been through a number of renovations and renewals. If I had to put money it - I'd say they don't have Fiber Optics. I think I may head over to an AT&T store some time next week, and talk to them, but its nice to get an outside opinion.
We only have two coax connections, and two tv's connected! So we're good right now!
Thank you so much for your help with this! Really appreciate it!

The chances that it will work well are good...

I live in Holland! Can we change the subject ?

Have heard U-Verse is GTG.
