If you are a Pro-Bodybuilder should you get/have a tattoo? Should they have points taken off/disqualified if they have them? It just seems like these bodybuilders that "showcase" their muscles and get these outrageous tatttoo's really aren't taking their "occupation" quite seriously. Examples off the top of my head: Lee Priest and Derrick "DA" Anthony and of course almost pro Billy Gunns.
What say you?

please use your alex23 acct, and stop this Bull Shit.

If you're really serious about being a pro I wouldn't have big retarded looking tattoos like the dwarf liar priest. Small ones that don't cover up the muscles seem to be okay.
-
I have never seen a tattoo that improved the way anyone looked.

Agreed. I think Lee has some other "problems" he's trying to cover up or compensate for...mind you I thought Lee's physique was pretty damn good.

Bodybuilding is a hobby--not an "occupation."
-
why not use them to enhance your definition, like this

they dont help

I would always choose a female sans tatoos if all else equaled. Sometimes I just think "thats too bad". To me it's like a fly on the lens so to speak.

I beg to differ. These pro's like your top seven Mr. Olympia are working at Costco and California Pizza, etc. etc.? Nope! Everything they do revolves around bodybuilding and showing off their muscles to make money in order to support themselves. Even when it bleeds into selling drugs and their bodies it still is connected to bodybuilding. It is an activity that demands payment so therefore is their job.

exactly, everyone has them nowadays so the rebel thing to do is not to have them. And 95% of tattoos suck bad so the odds are heavily agaisnt you if you try to get one.
-
btw great thread Fallsview, I was thinking of starting a similar one, good to see you are starting to post more often again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
-

a small lower back tatoo is fine and fits the personality.
-
come show time they should definantley be covered up
-
a sun around the belly button is the only appropriate one. pierced of course depending on the occasion.
-
Was Yates the only Mr O with tatts? "S.K.I.N.S." and "My England"... :-X
-
It appears that tats are more acceptable today than they were 20+ years earlier. Back in the 70's/80's tats were considered taboo for competitive bodybuilding, but today they are simply overlooked and many times downright acceptable.
-
Many years ago, getting a tattoo was a way for a person to stand out from the crowd. Nowadays, people use them as a way to fit in.
-
If you are competitive you should not have them. If I were a judge, I'd count it against them. NPC or PRO.
-
You can pro-tan them away for a show. Roelly got his son's name on his belly, but you don't see it at all on stage...
-
WIGGS, Interesting statement but ... I've never seen nor heard of any official NPC/IFBB statement concerning tats ... pro or con or otherwise.
And as you most likely know, if your were the only judge to base your decision on a competitors tats, your 'score' would most likely be eliminated during the official tabulations.
Many years ago I asked a long time judge how he felt about judging competitors with tats and he simply said, "If two competitors are identical in every respect except for the fact that one had tats, I'd give my decision to the one without the tats."
RUDEE, It appears that you most recent statement is true today.

Gotta add this .....
A lot of the general public's 'tat acceptance' depends on who's wearing them and how well they have been 'drawn'.
Joey Gloor (see above) is a fitness model and bodybuilding competitor who has a hell of a lot of tats but each of them are well 'drawn' and since he is a good looking guy ... the general public seems to accept him more so than if a fat motorcycle rider had the same.
I often find myself playing Craps or Blackjack with the younger generation at The Palms and I have to admit that I have been impressed by some of that tribal artwork that may be falling in demand lately.
Never had any desire to get one though.
