Buried my estrange grandfather on my birthday, my grandmother who helped raise me will be dead very soon, and my step grandfather is having some serious heart problems. Grandparents dying is real sad, but if there over 75 it shouldnt be a big surprise, they've had their chance, and lived full lives.

thank johnny, hard part was my dad was not aware my uncles wanted him as a pallbearers and he couldnt be found at the start of mass, so they asked me to fill in, man caring your loved one to their final resting place can be emotional, wasnt a getbigger that day

I have had two close family members die within two months of each other and i don't mind getting kicked in my teeth, but you are never ever ready or expect someone to die. Never. Grand parents are like gods because they tell you the stories that they went through, help mold you, shape you, teach you to be outstanding in whatever it is that you do. I have never been ready to accept death or just accept death because someone is a certain age to die. :-\

its okay man i broke down like a 5 year old kid crying when my friend died, dying is just too much to handle nothing comes close

yes enjoy all people you love and care about. My last living grandparent died 3 years ago. Seeing him slowly slipping was brutal but he had one last stroke, and we knew that was it. I was durable healthcare power of attorney. He only wanted to be on life support for 7 days. In the am, my father and I said okay it's time (quality vs. quantity, especially at 89). While he had many tubes in him I wouldn't allow my nugget near the hospital. So the life support was turned off. Funny, he opened his eyes, looked at me, I said go be with grandma, I love you and will do my best to make you proud. Grabbed my hand like the retired naval officer he was. I said I'm going to get ____(nuggets name). I went and got her and we pulled in the hospital and he was gone. :'( :'( :'(

True. If you've been fortunate enough to live past say 80, then you've had your chance and death is an integral part of life and there's no escaping it. We and perhaps a couple or generations to come are bound to die eventually. Some sooner than others. It sucks but in a way makes life worthwhile at the same time.

In shock I have read the kind responses. I expected the typical getbig posts. I hope you find peace Doug and I know your prayers are heard because I have faith. May he rest in peace and when you go I hope your grandson cares as much as you do now.

i can never accept dying nor could i even comprehend being ready for it . whenever ive let my mind wander into the realms of comprehending death it feels very negative and unnerving i never want to chose or let myself to feel like that.
i see my grandmothers once every few months i can tell they really miss me , and they always want to see me more and one of my grandmas is always telling me not to be with such and such girl and be single lol . But id hate to see them go if they did but they both seem kinda ready and maybe bored with life im not sure. i try not to get too deep talking with them i dont want to alter their outlook wich might be a bad thing

sorry to hear that dude.

Try and see them more, Falcon. 8) I still have the toys my grand parents bought for me as a kid. Do not judge. My child hood was one of the best times i can remember and the simple thing's (beside's memories) i got from them is something that means so much to me. ;) I was busy watching a Football game as was he and now i am wondering...... :-\ :-\

Damn,sorry bud.

RIP. The loss of a grandparent generates a permanent void but fortunately, due to their long life and connection to us, we often remember them very fondly as their are so many good memories (if you had a close relationship). When I was ten years old, my grandmother passed away from a rare cancer, my mother nursed her in our house, it was very painful, and very slow and even though it is 28 years ago, I still feel a tug of emotion just typing this. I only have wonderful memories of my grandmother, she treated me like I contained all the treasures of the universe. She did not deserve the amount she suffered in the end, but I am not going to pretend to know rhyme and reason to such complex issues as life and death. :(

I grew up with a dieing grandmother, so I grew up seeing dealth as normal a part of life as fucking, life's should never be taken for granted, it's far too short for that, the apparent proximity to death in my life, has been a guiding hand in almost everything I do.
-
How old was he? Sorry for your loss.
71. And thank you. He was from Ohio and he had 7 children, so, he lived a good life and taught his children and grand children well. My family were/are mostly Coal Miners (West Virginia) are all hard workers who chose to do Blue Collar type of jobs. I was just arguing with him and Bam..... :-\ He was proud of the family no matter what we did. :)
One fun fact about him is that he never forgave my mom and dad for giving birth to me in Michigan and being born on the campus of Michigan made the family even hate even stronger. ;) Every time he saw me, "I still blame you for being for born at "TSUN." "That School Up North." ;)

all sorts of emotions come and go, guilt, gratitude, for me it was important to understand that the deceased knew I had love for her, regardless of the teasing or whatever else, people know your true intentions, in the end you brought peace to them when the time came because you brought peace to them in their time of living, it's not the argument you had last with them, it's your presence in their lives that matters
-
My condolences...RIP.

Getbig has done nothing but mock all of my dead family members, father, mother, everyone else.
Perhaps its because they didn`t write Beethoven`s Ninth? ???

No Adonis. It was just a family thing, ya know. It was a love hate thing that had to do with "Sports"
I know you hate "Sports" and you feel that it is irrelevant and i respect that, but i just happen to disagree with that.
My Grand Father who was a Diehard O$U fan and hated the fact i was born in AA, Michigan and went to Michigan. I have family who went to Ohio State and Michigan and...well....we do not like each other. And that would be a nice way of putting it, believe me. So, that was just me and my grandfather's way of getting me to try and argue with him. Do you understand?
-
My condolences buddy
Thank ya, sir. Hope you aced your exams Big Ach. Ahh hell, we all know you did. :)

Why would you let something as trivial as other men playing sports or what college you went to separate you from your family? Facts are facts no matter where they are learned and it should be totally irrelevant what complete strangers do on a sports team. It has no bearing on anything and giving it any credence perhaps is just the excuse you guys use to justify hatred and estrangement.
I am sure there is more to it than just a college sports rivalry.
Death is something you and everyone here will just have to get used to. I advise everyone to prepare for it sooner rather than later and expect it to happen every day.

Adonis, i know where you are going with this and it's all good bro. It was just a family thing, ya know. I appreciated it and now i lost that connection and Ohio State is coming to AA in less than two weeks. You have a dislike for "Team Sports" and that is fine. I loved playing football and miss it very much. The thing is that it brought me and my grandfather closer than most people would have thought. It was just a family thing, k. I know you live in N.C. and could care less about Duke VS. UNC, correct? I have friends who went to both school's and they went through the same experiences with family members as i did. I respect your opinion and it made me and my grandfather closer than ever. :)
Every time i watch Ohio State play Michigan, it will remind me of my grandfather and my other family member's who cannot stand where i was born and went to school at. It is what is. :)

I think sports work well as bonding mechanisms. Bonding Mechanisms are integral to our species no matter what they are or how one arrives at participation.
Nobody can accuse the human species of being boring that is for sure.

I think that is the best i have you heard you when it comes to "Team Sports" and i will take that, ok. :) I could go alot of ways with sports, but it was in family since i have been born and if i ever have kids, i will help push them into Football, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball,..etc. Have a good one and i will leave it at that.
Bottom line when it comes to sports....Some people love it too much (My Family) and some people love sports, but not like my family and many others. Others enjoy watching their teams every now and then and some people could not give a rats ass for the Super Bowl, World Series, Basketball season, NHL, Soccer,..etc.
And no, the Human Species is no way in and shape, boring. Have a good one, bro.

My best wishes and condolences to you and you family Doug .. stay strong bro :)
