Title: Internet censorship bills in congress?
Post by: Xerxes on November 17, 2011, 05:08:42 AM
So I check out 4chan today and see this on every board

STOP INTERNET CENSORSHIP—TWO BILLS IN CONGRESS UNDERMINE THE PRINCIPLES OF THE WEB

American Censorship Day: November 16, 2011
On November 16th, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" will be heard in Congress. This legislation, in addition to the Senate's "Protect IP Act," completely undermine and fundamentally change the core principles of the Web. They have the potential to radically alter or shut down sites like YouTube, Flickr, 4chan, others, and all new companies that follow.
See americancensorship.org for more and help us stop these bills from becoming law.

What is happening here? Have you guys heard anything on the news? This should be a big deal, no?

Ive been saying, the gov is starting its big push to reign in control.
Its BS, but they fly under the radar and people seem content to hand their rights over with a smile.  :-\

Quote
Website Blocking
The government can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.
Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users
It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.
Chaos for the Internet
Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn't be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

All happening as I have said.

What could these things indicate?

- Major demonstrations across the country.
- Police tries brutally to stop these demonstrations.
- People kept in prisons without trials.
- Massive following of own citizens still building up
- Restrictions of human rights
- Growing use of force against citizens from police etc.
- Efforts to take guns away from citizens
- Restriction of freedom of speech
- Desperate actions to make people stand in one front (by creating common "threats" out of nowhere but miserably failing)

etc, etc.

It's clear that country is rapidly falling in pieces behind the scenes! Could it be more clear? Don't think so.

We, current generations, are the last people to know USA as it is today. This ain't ending strong. Country will dissolve and end up as at least 3 independent smaller countries.
Question is, whether it will happen peacefully or will blood flow on streets.

People just dont seem to give a shit anymore, seems like as long as a lot o them have their cable TV, X box, etc, they just dont care.

Soon as it happens though, everyone is gonna be freaking out, bitching and wondering WTF happened.
Sad state of affairs the citizens are in today.

Sometimes I think Uberman is spot on about everything he says.

Guess the US has reached its peak, like the Romans and the Greeks, we reached that point of being too civilized for our own good, and now begins the fall....

First thing for Americans would be to admit you are not immune to censorship. Won't happen though. The public will keep doing the easy thing, criticizing North Korea on the other side of the globe.

In the grand scheme of things, we had a pretty shitty empire compared to the greats...Not even close to the best.
It is now obvious to me I can no longer operate under moral fabric of old America.

i think we have selective censorship in america.

for example, we're not blocked from websites out there telling the truth.

however, there are so many high-gloss mainstream news shows and sites, selling us an 80% version of the truth, tainting things any way they want, that we don't notice/believe the true stories.  Plus the dis-info... where you'll have people putting out false stories on purpose to make all non-mainstream news outlets seem not credible.

what's HILARIOUS is that far-left viewers are well aware FOX lies all day.
what's HILARIOUS is that far-right viewes know that MSNBC lies all day.

But neither will accept THEIR OWN STATION is selling them bullshit all day :)

You're right. Roman Empire for example lasted ages but it did finally dissolve and then vanished from the face of mother earth.

I'm basing my three independent countries theory on the following:

- Viable states might want to form their own country. They get pissed off fostering states with most debt and least industry etc.
- The states with most economic, socioeconomic problems will most probably stick together
- Growing population of Mexicans and other minorities in USA might want their own country too

they dont have to.

they just prescribe enough prozac that people are too lazy/altered to have sex.

american population has declined in the last 10 years, right?

our leaders are doing it the right way, oddly.  In china, it's "drown the girls".  In Africa or mid east, it's "have 10 kids and hope 5 survive".

In america, we get stoned and educated and only hav 1-2 kids.  morally, its shady, but the results are better, right?

True but the mexicans and some black breed like rabbits.

i think the american culture will slow that down.  social programs hand out condoms to high schoolers.  education is cheaper and easier now, which means education might come before breeding.  and ppl of all colors can enjoy anti-anxiety and depression drugs that kill sex drive.

I prefer the way the USA does it.  Beats floating babies down the river cause they're born the wrong gender.

Fact is, the dollar is doomed... I wonder though if since so much of the world is tied to our economy, maybe, just maybe, that will help keep us running for a few more years while we try and figure out how to fix shit..

Unfortunatley, it seems like none of the politicians actually give a shit about trying to fix things, theyre just trying to make sure they squeeze every last dollar before the end....

Latino male from Idaho ??? ??? ???
shoots the white house with an AK-47 .... Say goodbye to assault rifles because this guy was trying to kill the president while he was in california with his family  ::) ::) ::)

WASHINGTON – The man arrested this week on suspicion of firing shots from an assault weapon at the White House is scheduled to make his first court appearance in federal court in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, of Idaho, was arrested in Pennsylvania on Wednesday after a four-day search. A hotel desk clerk had notified authorities after recognizing his picture.

The Secret Service said two bullets struck the White House. President Obama and his family were not home at the time of the shooting.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said Pennsylvania police, acting on information provided by the service, arrested Ortega at a hotel near Indiana, Pa.

The arrest took place shortly after the Secret Service reported that a bullet had hit a White House window.

"A round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass," the agency said in a statement.

The Secret Service also said it had found "one additional round" on the "exterior of the White House," but did not specify where.

Authorities are investigating Ortega's mental health and said there are indications he believed attacking the White House was part of a personal mission from God, according to a law enforcement official who spoke with the Associated Press. There are also indications the suspect had become obsessed with Obama and the White House, according to two officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

Gunfire was reported at around 9 p.m. Friday near the White House, the Secret Service said. The sound of the shots came from south of the White House, around the intersection of 16th Street and Constitution Avenue, about 700 to 800 yards from the White House.

"This damage has not been conclusively connected to Friday's incident, and an assessment of the exterior of the White House is ongoing," the Secret Service said in a statement.

Later that night, authorities reported a nearby abandoned car and an AK-47 rifle.

Obama was in California at the time of the shooting before he traveled to Hawaii and Australia.

On Wednesday, law enforcement officials could be seen taking a photo of a window on the upper floor on the south side of the White House.

Ortega did not resist arrest, said Pennsylvania State Trooper Lt. Brad Shields.

Ortega is from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was reported missing Oct. 31 by his family.

On Friday morning, he was stopped by police in a Washington suburb after officers were called for a report of a suspicious person.

Police took photos of him but had no reason to arrest him, police Lt. Joe Kantor said.

Ortega has an arrest record in three states but has not been linked to any radical organizations, U.S. Park Police said.

The last White House shooting occurred in 1994, when Francisco Martin Duran began firing a semiautomatic rifle from Pennsylvania Avenue.

Bystanders subdued Duran after he fired at least two dozen rounds. Duran is now serving a 40-year prison sentence for that incident.

BUMP, got this email from them

"Have you woken up from your food coma yet?  We don't have any time to waste.

Sources tell us that Senate leadership could call for a vote on the Internet censorship bill as early as this week, which is why we're trying to line up as many people as possible to call the Senate on Tuesday.

Ten thousand people have signed up so far, which is awesome.  But our goal is to absolutely flood Senators' phone lines, and that'll take about 50k calls.

Will you click here to join in, by committing to call your Senator and helping us reach our goal?

Those hundreds of thousands of emails we sent helped scare away a lot of support for the Stop Online Piracy Act -- the House's version of the censorship bill.  But the Senate version has been around much longer, and has a stronger core of people advocating for it.

When Hollywood, drug companies, and the Chamber of Commerce come calling, most Senators see dollar signs:  More than 30 of them have already said they back the legislation.

That's why we need to redouble our efforts, steer as many calls as possible into the Senate on Tuesday, and scare off some of the Senators who say they're likely to support this thing.

Please click here to sign up, and then help us get others signed up to make calls too, so we can reach our goal of 50k phone calls.

While you're killing time on the internet this weekend, remember that some of your favorite sites might not be there anymore in a few weeks if we don't win our fight against this terrible legislation.

Holmes Wilson
Fight for the Future / AmericanCensorship.org

P.S. Senator Wyden will fillibuster the censorship bill in the Senate, if it comes to that.  Sign this petition from our friends at Demand Progress and Sen. Wyden will read from this list during his fillibuster: StopCensorship.org"

Read some time ago about it.
Pretty sad - it also helps to criminalize people who use third party material in some way on the internet ... pics, movies, music.
Practically anything the internet's about will get turned off.
No more reviews, fun clips, fun pics, etc. containing property of people with legal muscle.
It's a handy law - is there a website you don't like? Hack it - upload copyrighted material, rat him/her out, and it's owner will face jail time up to 5 years.

Of course, Government doesnt want us to have access to information they dont want us to see, and big corp's would LOVE to have anything we use without paying be attached to fines/jail time.
Gov doesnt like when people are able to actually find out whats REALLY going on. lol.

The United States is dead/dying as we knew it, were now living in a totally different place than it used to be, and the funny part is people arent even aware of it.

Seems like everything going through House/Senate right now is about taking rights/power away from the citizens.
Probably trying to prep for the big collapse, want to limit the amount of information people have, keep us blind, try and minize violence and uprising.
Soon theyll be after firearms. lol.

Didn't the US speak out against the censoring in China? Money talks or what?

Interesting since Google won't tolerate this. The line between search engines and social networks and user content/web content is blurring so I cannot see how the government would be able to successfully use this act without making really huge steps backwards and closing large part of web infrastructure...

Like going back to TV and letting the people in charge choosing what to feed us again.

I don't see how the implementation should be done, are they going to inforce a censored search engine where the government monitors the activity by millions of users? Where only the lobbyists content are shown? Lol. How would that work.

Don't give a fuck if just the US wanted to have a controlled internet, but they affect other countries so it's pretty upsetting. These laws are around here too, originating at least greatly from pressure from USA.

Don't see it happening though. If all else fails, there's a new thing in town called ".bit".

Yup, long as they can still storm best buy and walmart after thanksgiving, a large majority of people arent going to give a damn, or theyre going to be happy, Ill bet you anything a shit ton of people will be applauding this saying how it should be done, people in the US seem to want to be controlled/spoon fed info, they dont want to think on their own, and the GOV LOVES it.

yeah.. that's how it is. Finally the government will pull out laws where they can leagally destroy populations and make people agree with it, lol. They will pass some anti-humanity laws for sure.

None of this makes sense that why... noone wants to think about the idea that there is a small group of evil men who just wants to see how this world will burn down so they can build a new and better world for themselves, it's a crazy idea but I'm numb to this shit allready.

I sense sarcasm in your post lol.
Im sure 90% of people wont even realize whats going on, and if they do, they probably wont put 2 and 2 together, or are just plain to lazy/medicated to give a damn.

Thats why IMHO, shits going downhill so fast... government knows people dont give a damn as long as they have their TV, Xbox, etc.

Agree - but you need a home and electricity.... both things cost money, exactly the one thing that is currently being vaporized.

You can't really hide the crisis, that's the problem for the governments. Think for example of the bank runs. 6% of the fantasy money "held" by a bank is real... the rest is empty hands.
America/Europe and others are desperate for money... american government gets all aroused if you could have money offshore. In europe the confiscation of money held by citizens is about to start, first test bed is greece. People's money, stored at the bank will be frozen/demolished and gold reserves sucked into the union.

Thank god I have no XBox.

Exactly, people can't yet phantom the idea that there is no electricity because there's no money, people still think that there's a way out... there is no way out, america can't possibly pay china anymore... over 15 trillion in debt, china will drop america and leave it where it's at , the world as we know it is about to take a giant leap to shitness.

Banks are the biggest crooks in existance.
Im starting to build my collection of firearms for the coming meltdown.
Going to start investing in bars of gold and silver.

(Other possibility is theyre intentionally melting the world economy down to move to a single currency, bring everyone to a level playing field then begin a "credit" system, money has no backing right now anyway. God knows the banks want to take away any form of currency that doesnt have to move through them, best thing that could ever happen to the banks is a credit currency, then no one could get away with not using the banking system, they just love the thought that everyone has to use them, that way they could charge whatever they wanted, and everyone would have to pay... Making money for not doing shit....)

Something major is getting ready to go down, and theyre not informing us, which means we probably arent going to like whats going to happen.

Could be useful, though the most important thing is a number of trusted people + land which you can grow something on + firepower to defend it.
The credit currency is the most likely solution.
Hope that there's only much hunger and little bloodshed.

"Phantom the idea"? You guys play too many computer games. I don't have to watch the news because I get the latest right here at Getbig.

I barely play two games... but you're right, you get everything in getbig. Getbig shares the sources for everything.

It's just that we all are going to witness a great event soon :P, and for those who have been following this big global scheme get thrilled.

China can't "drop" America without destroying their own economy. It would be the other way around, U.S. would default on its debts and China will do anything to ensure this does not happen. China only owns 1.2 trillion of the 15 trillion anyway.

Although the U.S. defaulting on Chinese debt would most probably collapse the entire global economy and provide the spark to ignite WWIII, which could be the end of the world. The American economy is the glue that keeps the house of cards together.

The world war 3 is coming for sure, no doubt. But china has no choise but to stop purchasing americas treasuries.
china has allowed america to work through their imbalances for years now but with global inflation and american consumers rapidly shrinking as a percentage of global gdp china won't trust that america will all of a sudden recover through some entitlement programs.

edit; epic deleting your post, who's gimmick are you anyway  ;D
