Title: Why No Behind The Back Shrugs?
Post by: The_Hammer on November 17, 2011, 11:21:26 AM
This picture forum member Royalty posted made me wonder why you never see people in the gym or in the bodybuilding world doing behind the back shrugs.

Weren't they responsible for Haney's incredible middle and lower trapezius thickness?

Great on the smith..

I just started using the smith for shrugs myself, but I'm running into a problem.  Sometimes the bar wants to move forward or backwards and the hooks on the bar hit the metal pins.  This happens especially when I use straps.  Is there a way to avoid this?

Sure. Just off-set your grip enough so that when the weight is free of the support your hands are in the desired position.

you have to face\turn the other way then so the hooks can't roll foward.

They just seem awkward to me because my ass is in the way.  How do you guys do them?

x2, although, once past the awkwardness, they give a diff feel than regular shrugs.
