According to the latest results from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind Poll, some news sources make us less likely to know what’s going on in the world. In the most recent study, the poll asked New Jerseyans about current events at home and abroad, and from what sources – if any – they get their information. The conclusion: Sunday morning news shows do the most to help people learn about current events, while some outlets, especially Fox News, lead people to be even less informed than those who they don’t watch any news at all.
... For example, people who watch Fox News, the most popular of the 24-hour cable news networks, are 18-points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government than those who watch no news at all (after controlling for other news sources, partisanship, education and other demographic factors). Fox News watchers are also 6-points less likely to know that Syrians have not yet overthrown their government than those who watch no news.
"Because of the controls for partisanship, we know these results are not just driven by Republicans or other groups being more likely to watch Fox News," said Dan Cassino, a professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson and an analyst for the PublicMind Poll. "Rather, the results show us that there is something about watching Fox News that leads people to do worse on these questions than those who don’t watch any news at all."
By contrast, some media sources have a positive effect on political knowledge. For example, people who report reading a national newspaper like The New York Times or USA Today are 12-points more likely to know that Egyptians have overthrown their government than those who have not looked at any news source. And those who listen to the non-profit NPR radio network are 11-points more likely to know the outcome of the revolt against Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. However, the best informed respondents are those that watched Sunday morning news programs: leading to a 16- point increase in the likelihood of knowing what happened in Egypt and an 8-point increase in the likelihood of knowing what happened in Syria.

This must explain your incompetence and idiocy on so many issues since you seem to be obssessed with Fox 24 / 7

hahaha what are you up to, 70,000 post, mr.havenolife :D

A left-winged university, citing a poll, praising the New York Times, USA Today, and NPR and criticizing Fox News........ ::).
What's next? Posting studies by doctors that anabolic steroids don't work and don't enhance athletic performance?
Even by TK standards, this is pathetic.
Fox News viewers KNEW that Obama would be the collosal flop that he is, that his policies would crash and burn and make this nation far worse than it was when Bush left office, while you and the TK members were in virtual orgasmic bliss over the Messiah.
Guess what!!! That's PRECISELY what happens.
Fox News viewers knew that the Dems were going to get the lips slapped off their faces last year in the midterms, while silly folk like you swore that the Dems would be in power for decades to come.
Guess what!!! The Dems took the worst beating in over 70 years, of any political party.
But, keep up the corny surveys. It makes for good comedy.

we don't need a study to know this is true
I've met many right wingers who were so utterly misinformed about basic facts on certain issues and when speaking with them further I find out that the ONLY thing they watch is Faux News.
I was at a party recently and was chatting with a woman who told me that the only thing she watches is Fox News. I thought she was joking so made the comment that she would be more informed if she did nothing other than stop watching Fox news. Turned out she was serious about watching Fox and got kind of insulted but that just make me laugh even more

Nice try, Clucky. But Rush went off a half-hour ago.
Not that it has anything to do with Fox News, pegging Obama to be the fraud that he is, while you and your TK brethren slobbered all over him. Of course, I've rippped your silly claims apart with links and articles from CBS, CNN, The Wall Street Journal and a myriad of other sources. So, you'll have to dredge up some other excuses for your futility.
Obama's failure were as predictable as a Monday is long.

You mean basic facts, like the Muslim brotherhood taking over Egypt, with Mubarak gone. Fox News and conversative radio warned that this would happened for MONTHS. Yet, CNN, MSNBC, and the other liberal cabals ignored it and brushed it off, as fear-mongering.
Now, they're completely shocked about the atrocities going down, at the hands of the very entity that they claimed was no threat to take over Egypt. One goof even claimed that the Muslim Brotherhood was a largely secular organization.

I do get a lot of information from those sources. I also get them from CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and others.
The bottom line is that that info, for the most part, has been DEAD ON, namely about Obama, about the aftermath in Egypt and in Libya.
And, in typical cowardly fashion, you dodge the fact that these sources and others got that right (among other things).
Coming from someone who wallows in the red-headed stepchild of cable news (MSNBC), you're in no position to criticize anyone about the accuracy of media sources.

What did she say something like the Stim Bill was a joke and Obamacare did not reduce her premiuims by $2500 as promised?
nope, she was bitching about how's she was afraid we were becoming socialist and when I stopped laughing I asked what she was referring to and she really had nothing to follow up with which is when she mentioned Faux News
then I asked her if agriculture subsidies were socialism, or medicare or social security or tax credits for oil companies, etc...
This is a woman that I've known for years and used to think was smart. She's got an undergrad degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA. Later in the evening we were having dinner and the topic turned again to politics and this woman blurted out that Michelle Bachmann was "brilliant" and my brothers wife, who spends most of her time knitting and "rescuing" animals and doesn't' give a shit about politics heard that comment about Bachmann and just unleashed her. I, of course, was laughing my ass off.

Actually, it is not. But it shows the kind of bullshit that goes on in these "studies."
For example, the study posted in the OP is dubious at best. Have the protestors succeeded? You could say yes, since the previous dictator has been ousted... OR you could say no because Egypt is ruled by a military junta and there are still protests going on in Cairo.
Or the question regarding the Occupy Wall Street protestors... does anyone even know the answer to that question? The "Occupiers" are an extremely diverse group with the far-left, Democrats, and Ron Paul supporters mixed together. That makes any definitive statement difficult.

“Some News Leaves People Knowing Less,” blares a headline from the political science department of Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey today. The University conducted a survey of several hundred New Jersey residents and found some numbers that are very convenient for the enemies of a certain news organization– Fox News viewers were 18% more likely to be either misinformed or uninformed about certain current events. [...]
The study is being heralded by the usual suspects as proof that Fox News many foibles (like this map of the Middle East, screencap via) is actually more damaging to all Americans than not watching any news at all. Of course, most of these are ignoring the fact that of this extremely select group, the MSNBC viewers were entirely confused about Occupy Wall Street for some reason– and, of course, are ignoring the fact that said foibles are natural in the television industry (and in print, and in talk radio), and forgivable if kept to a minimum.
And, more importantly, they ignore at their peril the questionable academic work that went into this study, and the questionable language used by the professors that may be a red flag as to how much they are exaggerating the importance of their work. Take, for example, Professor Dan Cassino calling the finding”that only about half of the public can name one of the front-runners is embarrassing.” Yes, that would be embarrassing for the American public– if half of 612 people in New Jersey, a state that represents about 0.002% of the American public, were representative of them. Given the extreme limits of its geographical range and the negligible number of those polled (a whole 612 people), it is difficult to see this study as irrefutable evidence of anything, and perilous to promote it as such for ideological benefit.
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/left-rejoices-as-poll-of-612-new-jerseyans-declares-fox-news-makes-people-stupid/
I'll sum this up even easier: they're all trash and this study is just about as much of a joke as any MSM news organization.
